This is a very typical khmer attitude in adopting western lifestyle. It makes them feel sophisticated, educated and modern, and they tend to look down on their own people.

In Aust, we have the code of ethics in term of dress standards, e.g. needs to be lengthy, iron appropriately, nice and clean cut including an expensive hate that cost around $70 each. The total spending for school uniform alone could reach up to $1000 dollars to start with. And yes, it is right to demonstrate to promote for a high standard of expression which allow to have more value and reputation in term of education. This is for people who have nothing to do, but wasting their time to butt other people's way of life.
This association is bullshit. They have nothing to do. The problem in Cambodia is not about short skirt but about shortage of academic textbooks, public library, computers, even school buidlings for the students. In some places in Cambodia, student have to study under the shade of the trees. Many private schools in Cambodia such as Beltei School, American Intercontinantal School, Zaman Interenational School, all have female students wearing short skirts as uniform. An I observe that there is nothing wrong with just wearing short skirt as the uniform in schools. I think Khmer Teacher Association seem to be politically motivated rather than professionally motivated. I think they should focus on how to improve education in Cambodia rather than just look at the fuss such as uniform. Cambodia is not the place for Taliban. I think we have freedome to choose the clothes we like.
I think this Khmer Teacher Association is a Branch of Taliban. But if you look at the photo, they are hypocrite. They were wearing ties and the female students were wearing fashioned shirts. Why don't they wear the Khmer Rouge style uniform (Black color) to do demonstration against the wearing short skirt?

In U.S, all elementary, middle and high schools do have dress code, get it?
They are: no tank top, no short skirt above the knees, (boys) no beggy jeans, shirt has to be tugged in. All clothes has be ironed, cleaned and neat. No exception! If dress code is violated, parents will be called and bring new clothes.
Cambodian needs to have strict dress code. Forget about uniforms, they're ugly! Girls, why short skirts? Aren't you supposed to go to school to get educated? who do you want to impressed? Besides, girls should stick with Khmer culture! Please do not copy Korean or European. In U.S, we have a stict dress code, unless you live in Beverly Hill, CA. Totally support the Khmer Teacher Association! They did the right thing! Let's bring back Khmer culture and custom!

i think it is fair to say that students should dress apropriately at school, especially high school and below; however, in higher education like college and university, adult students should be able to dress any way they like as long as it is not too distractive to other students who are studying, etc... they don't care who anyone dresses at their own time, own place, etc... they just request that students be dressed appropriately, that's all!
it's probably has nothing to do with culture or tradition or what have you; i think it has more to do with following rules and regulations of the schools, etc... for your information, schools all over the world have this kind of rules and regulation for dress code, drug code, alcoholic beverages code, code of conduct, harrassment law, rights of students to study without distraction, etc, etc... so, it's not just cambodia that want this, ok!
the school principal has the authority to enforce and demand appropriate dress code, etc...
think about it, it makes sense not to go to school in your underwear, bra, g-string, bikini,or what have you, really! leave that at the beach, ok!

Where is the rights to education? The Khmer government has already ratified the ICCPR with commitment to promote all rights which is laid down in its national constitution. If each student has to pay at least 70$ to 100$, what is the responsibilities of the government? What we need a government for? The government should find way to subsidize all cost and expenses for school children. This is how to promote/respect rights to education and education is the foundation for the country to heading toward development. If the enrollment for schooling cost enormous amount of money, particularly when it comes to a low income like Cambodia how the national education can be promoted? What about the future of the student from the poor family? Eventually the problem will bounce back to government itself to resolve, when numerous of entire society are uneducated.

If I've had chosen as Khmerican president of the USA today I'll change my stricted regulation law tomorrow. Globalization of culture is one of the greed of the empire and the imperialism.... be conscious, people.
To my understanding I think, most of the comments support the women to wear mini-skirt. The ideas lean to the modernized and westernized ones. This is because, as we generally know, all of those few people can access internet; they are the modernized ones; maybe, they have already been brainwashed by those culture.
