Tribunal Expected To Probe Further Suspects

Judges at the Khmer Rouge tribunal are prepared to begin investigating additional suspects beyond those already in custody, an official for the UN-backed court said, but it remains unclear whether any more leaders of the regime will ever be brought to trial.

The question of further indictments beyond five suspects already in detention has put tribunal judges at odds in the past and led to warnings by Prime Minister Hun Sen on national instability.

While the tribunal has been mainly focused on the trial of those five leaders, “investigators have started studying the case files for Case 003 and Case 004,” said Lars Olsen, a spokesman for the tribunal. “Concrete investigative steps are expected to start in some weeks’ time.”

Case No. 002, which is not expected to go to trial until 2011, involves jailed leaders Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan, Ieng Sary, Ieng Thirith and Kaing Kek Iev. Cases beyond that involve suspects that have not been detained.

The names of the suspects in the third and fourth cases have not been publicly announced, and it remains to be seen how far any investigation will go in the face of opposition from Hun Sen and some Cambodian judges.

Court observers say more arrests won’t happen if the decision is split between Cambodian and UN judges, thanks to rules of the court requiring majority decisions. And critics continue to doubt the court’s ability to operate without government interference.

“If the international community does not have influence over the government in ceasing them from interference in Khmer Rouge court procedures, the government benefits,” said Seng Theary, co-director of the Center for Justice and Reconciliation. “And if the international community pulls away, we also think the government benefits. But ultimately, who loses? We as the Khmer people, we as victims, who lost parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, the entire nation.”

The international community must not abandon the court or let it fall to “political games,” which can make the people tire of the proceedings and lose confidence in the court and each other, she said.

“I am so fearful that it could happen if the international community walks away [and] if the government continues to interfere in [court] procedures, which they are not supposed to do,” she said.

THINGS are looking good!

Yes, I dare Mr. Hun Sen to lash out at the US, if he dares. Yup, the US is simultaneously going after Cambodian government and Mr. Hun's great friend, the Burmese generals, that is. Their days are numbered.

War is peace

UN said,

Either CPP dissolve or these three monkeys step down or they will charge them of involving during the Khmer Rough time. UN insisted that Hun Sen, Chea Sim and Heng Samrin must be brought to stand trial along with those 5 top members of KRs. CPP must be dissolved like Baath in IRAQ..

This trial should be the lesson to learn for every Cambodian if in the future they want to be the leader. Do not involve in killing people. In order to doante or give money to Hun Sen, his regime or his CPP must be behave or they will face sanction or further more will be charge for involving during the Khmer Rouge. CPP can't behave eratic in order to get money. They must show UN the report card. The inidication for those involved during the Khmer Rough regime are:
Noromdom Sihanouk
HUN SEN and his CPPs
Chea Sin and his CPPs
Heng Samrin and his CPPs

These 4 people must come to trial in near future..

Rocket propelled grenades do not cost much. You can purchase a Russian made type (or even a cheaper Chinese copycat version) from RCAF soldiers around Phnom Penh for less than $20. Hun Sen mainly travels around Cambodia on a helicopter. When firing RPGs, the accuracy can be erratic at times and so you would not want to be too far from your target.

Just remember that your hit probabilities vary greatly with contrasting distance. With a B-41, the ones you can get from RCAF soldiers around Ta Kmau & Takeo you'll get 96% from at least 100 meters away and as low as 51% from a distance of 200 meters. Like I said earlier, the grenade rockets' trajectory can be erratic. Best time to get a good kill shot is when the helicopter is on its vertical takeoff. You'll have an easier and more stable target to work with.

UN must not let this CPPs regime interfere with the trial or the court or otherwise the justice will not prevail.

UN must tell HUN SEN and Sok An, Hor NamHong to stay away from the trial or they will face contemplate to the court.

UN must be strong, don't let HUN SEN and his CPP clans interfere.

Thanks from all Khmer,

Mr. Keat Chon & Hor Nam Hong, especially should be proscecuted to a certain degree. After all those two are the one who helped Noun Chea, Pol Pot, Ing Sary and Keuv Samphan driving the entire population out of their homes. It was the begining of hell on this earth. Why should they be allowed to sit and laughing their asses off at the top of the Cambodian government any way?

Cambodia and Cambodian people will be much prosperous and peaceful without the three in power. Will they get away for free after 1.7 million of innocent khnmers killed, too much to forgive. In addition to that, you want to kill more for your own benefits. Theary Seng, all the victims trust on you doing your job.

Nothing to be done for the benefits of Cambodian people by the OLD king and the NEW king. HUN SEN just keep abusing his power and create more corruption in the government and his gangster. Wake up Cambodian people. Fight for your basic rights and democracy if you want to have a good future for your self and your children. Millions of Cambodian can stand up and remove HUN SEN from power. The people power.
