On 08 April, a government border expert reacted and rejected the claim made by opposition leader Sam Rainsy, saying that it is a falsification of the truth when Sam Rainsy claimed that stakes for border post 185 that he uprooted were not the legal and actual post.
The rejection by the government border expert was a response to a press communiqué sent by email by opposition leader Sam Rainsy on 07 April. In the communiqué, Sam Rainsy said that it was a big victory for Cambodia on the border problem.
sVar Kim Hong, chairman of the government border committee for the resolution of border dispute, reacted to Sam Rainsy’s declaration, calling it another case of falsification of the truth.
sVar Kim Hong said: “The fact that he did not understand, did not know how to read map, did not know to comment on map that contains subtitle, and that he commented that the government agreed with him about the encroachment, it is another exaggeration of the truth, it is to cheat the national and international opinion again. Let him read the document, if he is not an expert, let him ask an expert to get it right. Don’t talk about something that is not true!”
In response to the problem above, Sam Rainsy told RFA over the phone from France on 07 April that: “I saw the document issued by border map experts from the Council of Ministers, these experts recognize that the border post that I uprooted in Svay Rieng last year, was not the real border post!”
Sam Rainsy’s declaration dated 07 April indicated that officials from the government Council of Ministers recognized on the document it sent to the court that the stakes for the temporary border post are located about 516-meter inside Cambodian territories from the actual borderline.
On 30 March 2010, a group of several SRP MPs wrote a letter to Heng Xamrin, the president of the National Assembly, asking for a stop in the planting of border posts between Cambodia and Vietnam because stakes for border posts no. 184, 185, 186 and 187 located in Koh Kban Kandal village, Samrong commune, Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province, are encroaching into Cambodia by between 300 to 500-meter.
A source indicated that Heng Xamrin replied by saying that he refused to send the SRP request to the government because the SRP and the government have discussed on this issue already.
