Op-Ed by Khmer Borann
My daughters who study at Beltei School also wear short skirt. If you see the female uniform at Beltei School, you will say the skirt is too short. For me, wearing short skirt is not the problem and those who claim that short skirt is the Western tradition are just stupid. Why don’t you look at Apsara at Angkor Wat? What are Apsaras wearing? I think Khmer culture are being destroyed not because of short skirt but because corruption and dictatorship.
I think the campaign by Khmer Teacher Association is politically motivated rather than to preserve Khmer culture. Those who lead the campaign are hypocrite. They claimed that short skirt is the Western tradition and no Khmer culture. I just would like to ask them why they were wearing tie during the demonstration. Everybody knows that tie is not Khmer dress and was brought from the West. Why those people did not say wearing tie is destroying Khmer culture?
It is unfortunate that the Khmer Teacher Association did not focus on the real problem facing Khmer kids and Khmer culture. Everybody knows that the education quality in Cambodia is very low and this is because of lack of school facilities, textbooks, and qualified teachers. In some places, the children have to study under the tree shade because the school building is not available. Why the Association did not think about this?
Because they are paid to low, some female teachers force students to buy candy and cakes. Also some teacher force students to pay unofficial fees. I think the Khmer Teacher Association should think about the increase in teachers’ salary rather that about short skirt. You should be ashamed when you force students to pay unofficial fee which against the professional conscience of the teachers. I think instead of campaigning against wearing short skirt, the association should demand the pay rise from the government because when the teachers have enough salary, they can focus of teaching profession. Forcing students to pay unofficial fees is not Khmer culture; it is corruption. Corruption destroys everything, including the teachers’ salary. One can ask why the salary of the teachers could not be increased. This is because corruption eats all the money supposed to be paid for the civil servants.
I think, as the Cambodian, we should have long vision and should look to the future rather than going back to the Stone Age. Khmer children need more textbooks, libraries, computers, and internet. We need to catch up with the neighboring countries, so we have to focus on the real issues rather than wasting time to think on unimportant thing.

THEY'RE DUMP ASS HO CHI MINH BRAINWASHED HUNSEN FUCHENFATHER.
shut up people, it has nothing to do with destroying culture, corruption, etc... it has more to do with society and students following schools' rules and regulation. if they fail to respect rules and rugulation, will be banned from going to school, really! it's not that hard to understand, really!
anyway, in cambodia, students are required to wear school's uniform anyway, why is this a problem?
Oh! my lord. Why do Khmer Teacher Associations worried about mini skirt? I like girls wear mini skirt. It looks good on them as long as it is not too short.
Do you know Hun Sen's wife and his daughters walked naked or wear Lingerie in front of their husband at home to make their husband not to sleep with the hookers? So why does Hun Sen not band that? Of course he likes it. No wonder we lost a lot of land to Youn Vietcong.
KTA shall protest about Youn invasion on Khmer land and people.
Why don't they ban on Valentine, Christmas, and birthday party? Those things are also Western influence.
Give me a break and shut up KTA and Hun Sen.

Your arguments are very childish just like the demonstrators. This reflects your thinking ability to find way to argue for the sake of arguing because with your reasons these show that the School Principals are uncapable of leading and managing their schools just like the CPP all they can think of is to exercise their freedom of expression in the wrong place at the wrong time. And you, yes I repeat you must shut your mouth instead, rather than telling people to shut up because you cannot find any better rason to defend or complement the action. Take times to find a better ideas to argue.
BTW I wish to congratulate Khmer Borann who has contributed such fine piece of writing to comment on the issue. Well done!
no school in the world let their students come to school half naked, etc, so, why should cambodia?
Shirt skirts or miniskirts with long sleeve blouses been wearing all over the world to shools. Look at schools that require Uniform. They wear shor skirts and blouse covered with blazers. What is wrong with that?
Why worrying about short skirts while those girls wearing blouses covered their chests?
The rules were made by Jumpeav jumteut from peasant rural families like Bun Saheang aka Bunrani who are so afraid that their husbands may fall into those youngsters.
And motherfucker wearing tie in the HOT weather?????????? What the fuck you try to destroy the Khmer culture by being a stupid showoff!!!
Go to school or university meaning they are on a learning process. If they still go to schools or visit the universities, they have to respect the rule.
It is more about self-responsibility and self discipline an not just our Khmer culture.
All educational institutions in Cambodia (private and state) have the full responsibility for the future of the young generation of Khmer. They have to think and have of the humanity education in their curriculum and not just academic level.
hun shit dump head communist regime is hyprocrite.

11:26 PM"
Fool, 11:26Pm, why don't they just force the rules?????
And if they demand about the rules and regulation why not ask to impose to all boy and girld, or something in between?????
Go think boy and stay with the subject!!!!
The protesters don't even know what culture is. I hate when people start to talk about Khmer culture. What defines Khmer culture? Culture evolves. The Khmer Teacher whatever association people are non-thinkers.
I agree with this article entirely. These demonstrators are being used by Hun Sen to bring public attention away from his serious leadership such as corruption, landgrabbed and land encroachment from vietnam. This trick is to bring Cambodian to fight to each other to some nonsense.
China was one of the most conservative Nation and was once shut out from outside world. The leaders of China have never interested to talk what their young people wear at all. It is a freedom of life. They must care about corruption, People housing, healthcare, clean water, foods supply, employment, sciences, technology etc.. and etc..
These crap leaders have nothing more than complaining young people wearing short skirt, but they are abusing their young people by sexual harrassement, forces loves etc... The demonstrators are just supporters of CPP only and were being paid to do this thing. If these demonstrators are doing for landgrabbed or corruptions, I would guarantee that these demonstrators will be shot to death.

Applause, respect and aknowledgement to this short, but wise headline!

"For me, wearing short skirt is not the problem and those who claim that short skirt is the Western tradition are just stupid. Why don’t you look at Apsara at Angkor Wat? What are Apsaras wearing?" [quote]
I believe that most people do agree corruption is far more urgent than this clothing behavior. But I doubt if any reader out there sees these people in the picture stupid.
Plus, those Apsaras (representing clothing aspect in those days), and even Javaraman VII himself, had to wear that less due to the limit of manufacturing tech, not civilized social conventions!
My point is: is it really worth to bring such hatred views here on KI-Media for the mass to read?
Short skirt is how short? Are the students dress appropriately as a student or as a distraction in the classroom? If they go to school that have law and rule, they should obey and respect accordingly. There is nothing to do with apsara or corruption here. The augument is dealing with real human (students issue) not apsara sculptures. And there is nothing wrong to wear tie any where in the world. It is nice and look professional as a teacher.
If need all the lady not wearing the short skirt...... Could u stop to import all the short skirt to Cambodia? The government can do it? All the teachers if no power to make the student respect you... why have to make the stupid riot.
If need all the lady not wearing the short skirt...... Could u stop to import all the short skirt to Cambodia? The government can do it? All the teachers if no power to make the student respect you... why have to make the stupid riot ????????
Can anybody (including Khmer Teacher Association) give the definition of short skirt? I have boserved that students at state-run schools did not wear short skirt. But students in private schools wear short skirt. But again, the short skirt they wear is the school uniform. So if you are talking about respecting school regulation, those students are respecting their school regulation. So what is the problem with short skirt?
maybe their excuse is to preserve culture or something. i think in this day and age forcing cultural way is nearly impossible because people, both men and women for fighting for their rights and freedom of less authoritarian. i think it is so outdated to enforce cultural value, not just in cambodia, but anywhere in the world for that matter, really! i think it's more important for people to follow or obey rules and regulations and have a sense of ethical conduct. maybe it's another one of those political games they are playing here. please be modernized and civilized for a change already, thank you.
All AH Hun Sen 's ministers and those in opportunist positions are national traitors along with Ukgna Jhor, they thought Ah Hun Sen is so dump ( Avek)So they did what ever they want under smelly ah Hun Sen's arm pith. they are the traitor of ah Hun Sen too. Ah Hun Sen should thanks opposition people rather than his doggy ministers like Ah Choam Prasit, Ah Sok Anh, Ah Pen Si Morn, All doggy corrupter government officers.
for me, school uniform is ok, even short skirt to the knee with long socks like they have at private schools all over the world, you know!
