Thai, Cambodian Troops Exchange Fire, Boost Troops

Thailand and Cambodia have reinforced troops along their border in Surin after both sides exchanged fire yesterday.

Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged heavy fire for almost an hour at 8am yesterday, 8km east of Chong Chom checkpoint in Surin.

Troops exchanged fire again around 9.30am in the same spot for about 15 minutes.

No casualties were reported.

Following the clashes, Thailand's Ranger Forces Regiment 16 commander Col Adul Boonthamcharoen and Cambodia's region 4 border affairs chief met to negotiate a ceasefire.

The situation remained tense, however, as both sides refused to withdraw and instead reinforced troops and arms along the border.

A Thai army source said the incident happened after a patrol unit found that Cambodian troops were leading their citizens into a disputed area to build a village there. Thai troops ordered them to stop.

"Cambodian soldiers then opened fire on us, and we fired back," the source said.

There were no reports of injuries, but one ranger was missing after the clashes, said the source. The Suranari Task Force will send troops to inspect the area again today.

Cambodian defence ministry spokesman Chhum Socheat defended his troops' actions.

"While our troops were patrolling the border, the Thai soldiers opened fire at them. So our troops fired back," he said.

He said troops from both sides fired rockets and grenades as well as rifles, but calm returned after a meeting between Cambodian and Thai military commanders in the area. "It was a misunderstanding and nobody was injured in the clash," said a Thai army officer.

This is strange, but I thought Hun Sen commanders always bragged on national TV that they always defeated the Thai troops all the times, and even said that the Thai troops were always fearful of the Cambodian troops. Soy Sopheap even claimed to have talk down to the Thai troops and the Thai troops responded submissively that they were pretty much fearful of the war-harden Cambodian troops. So how come the Thai troops used their shot back with their guns at the Cambodian troops. Lol. As long as Hun Sen's generals keep on bragging and think that Thailand is distracted with the Red Shirts' Protest, then they will be in a big surprise when Thai troops will be in their faces at the border. Lol.

This is a thai tactic to draw attention away from the internal protests.

Where is Ke Kim Yan to the frontline? He is a true hero whose claws were removed by Hun Sen.

you got it twisted. we do not talk about our soldiers or take money away from our soldiers like some people do. We support our soldiers and hope for their safety and the best for their family because they make big sacrifices for us.

we only talk about some big mouth people who don't do the actual battle, but only take credit for the blood sacrifice of our people and soldier.

You must correct yourself if you want to argue, otherwise it is pointless. You are arguing against yourselves because the point you accused us we did not make.

Maybe to you it is healthy thing to do, argue with yourself. I suggest you stay and practice in front of the mirror then.

Who care about who is big or small mouth, we all are Khmer, we must support our hero soldiers at the front line but some comments I am also agree because some big generals are too crook, they took the monthly wages of their normal army for their own pockets.
And some big general are also acting wrong way, army should always be one nation, all Khmer not for one party..CPP only. Army must protect all Khmer nothing to do with politic.
And our normal army are doing their great jobs while other enjoying young Vietnamese girls.
Long life Khmer army.

11:53AM you're making yourself look bad. I known you're not showing your face or real ID here. But at least you still have some conscience as you react and respond. Give decent comments/reasons that can be read.
