Cambodia declines to host games

CAMBODIA may not be ready to host the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, Vath Chamroeun, the secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, told the Phnom Phen Post on Monday that five years may not be enough “for the Kingdom to prepare a sporting event of that magnitude.”

Cambodia’s reluctance to host the games in 2015 prompted the Philippine Olympic Committee to look into the possibility of Manila hosting the event in the same year.

“We will wait for Cambodia’s official communications on this. The executive board will have to take this up,” stated Cojuangco.

Earlier this month, Cojuangco said the Philippines is prepared to host the games on an earlier schedule if Myanmar or Vietnam back out of their turn in the rotation for hosting.

But Myanmar accepted the hosting rights for 2013 SEA Games during a recent meeting of the SEA Games Federation Council in Jakarta after Singapore backed out.

Cambodia was supposed to host the games in 2015, while Vietnam will have its turn in 2017.

The Federation has warned Cambodia that if it misses out on its turn, the wait can “be long and painful as bids are considered on a rotation basis.”

“We are overwhelmed by this show of massive support, but realistically, it may not be possible to mobilize resources, create infrastructure and develop human resources in a time frame of five years from now,” added Chamroeun.

i think cambodia can postpone this and do it later at the next rotation or something as this is not really cambodia's priority right now! we still have to put or upgrade a lot more of our national infrastructure in order to be able to handle and serve our people, country and foreign guests or foreign visitors better in near future, etc... we want to impress our guests and welcome everybody to visit and see cambodia sooner.

Holy macaroni, we can only organize and manage bribes and corruptions. The SEA Olympic Game Committee must know that, no matter how much times we are given, we honestly are not able and capable to meet the game's requirement. Thank you very very very much but NO THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Even Laos has hosted the game last year.

Cambodia is not yet ready?

Go to show how far behind Cambodia is in SE Asia in term of human and infrastructure development.

Perhaps Cambodia will still need another 50 years to be ready, that of course if another brilliant leader like Pol Pot does not come along to turn it back to year zero again.

Perhaps this nation really is cursed.

As former Khmer athlete and well known about sport activities and Sport Pedagogue & Sport Sociology, I think we are not ready to have this 2015 SEA-Games in our country.
We need a lot of human resources and also higher level of athletes.

Hey, we just finished celebrating our first highway bridge. It is our biggest achievement so far in the history of HUN SEN ruling government. For, Southeast Asian game? forget it, we would need another 20 years to prepare for the games and all; well maybe 20 years... As CAMBODIA has been in civil for so long, our leaders are so stupid and we don't need to rush for anything better... Oh by the way, maybe we can get some more money if we pretend we are sick and stupid for not hosting the game.

Isn't Hun Xen still rules by 2015?

reasons
1 i don't really know how to host seagame
2 i don't want to spend money for that i want to keep it for my self
3 i don't care about cambodia prestige internally and internationally, i am kind of that person
4 i sold all the green land aound olumpic stadium, you see now there are arnachy over there, i can't controle this ugly things, you see now we lack infrastructure
5 our sporters are so skinny and malnutriences, even thought some time before performance i gave them a dish of noodle. they are so pity like a beggars so we lack sufficiences human resources.

4:25 pm,

Add one more to your list.

6 We just want to be complacent, no need to strive for better things. Why take the risk.
