SRP official rejected the information provided by the Phnom Penh treasury claiming that a representative for Mrs. Mu Sochua went to pay the fine for her.
Yim Sovann, SRP spokesman, confirmed on Saturday 26 June that the SRP still maintains its stance, i.e. it will not pay the fine for Mrs. Mu Sochua who was ordered by the Supreme Court to pay her fine in the defamation lawsuit case brought up by Hun Xen.
Yim Sovann’s rejection came after a number of local newspapers reported that the SRP will pay the fine for Mrs. Mu Sochua in a lawsuit case where the latter claimed that she’d rather go to jail than pay the fine for the court.
Yim Sovann indicated that the SRP leaves the decision right to Mrs. Mu Sochua herself to decide whether she wants to pay the fine or not. The court ordered her to pay a compensation to Hun Xen amounting to 8 million riels and to pay a fine of 8.5 million riels to the national treasury.
Nevertheless, Yim Sovann declined to comment on the future outcome of this case as to whether the party will pay the fine for Mrs. Mu Sochua or not.
On 17 June, the treasury issued an ultimatum to Mrs. Mu Sochua, telling her to pay the 8.5 million riels fine within a 2-week period from the date the ultimatum was issued, otherwise the treasury will take legal measures against her.
An anonymous official from the Phnom Penh treasury who declined to be named, indicated on 26 June that there was a civil society official who brought the money to pay for Mrs. Mu Sochua, but Ker Bun Leng, the treasury chief, refused to accept the money because the person who brought the money did not bring any court paperwork with him.
Ker Bun Leng refused to comment on this payment when RFA reporter went to meet him on 26 June.
Yim Sovann said that there are no party officials who took the money to pay to the treasury.
On 26 June, Ky Tech, Hun Xen’s lawyer, said that the court and the treasury cannot accept any fine from any individual other than Mrs. Mu Sochua herself because this is a criminal case. He said that Mrs. Mu Sochua can find a lawyer who represents her for the payment.
Mrs. Mu Sochua is currently traveling in the US and she cannot be reached, but she used to say that she will not pay the fine to the court because she is the victim.

Stop labelling and misleading cambodians that is a crime regardless any judment by the court.
It is all civil matter, what kind of law school did you go to Viet?

She does not even have to present herself to pay fine, if she agreed to do so as long as the court fine presented.
That is why national and international communities and the UN ask the judicial system to be reformed ASAP.

boring topic! accusation by same people all the time! that didn't stop life in cambodia. yes, there are more to cambodia than some extremist individuals from opposition party!

why they keep on disobeying the khmer law, etc? if they see area of the law that needs reforms, etc; why don't they demand reforms there? why keep fighting our gov't who try hard to improve the people's lives and the country and modernizing our country, etc...! what is the use of these opposition people? are they really makiing a difference in cambodia or are they just making bad impression or bad press about cambodia? why should cambodia need them if they don't fight for reform, but instead fight for their own personal liking. maybe they, themselves, are dicattors in disguise! what a hypocrite they are, really!
to 9:30, Actually, it was a violation of Untac Article 63- a crime. After the Prime Minister called for defamation not to have a jail sentence, mandatory jail was stopped but the fine is still there.
