i think this should be included in the next national election debate. if opposition is smart and reformed themselves, etc, they all should encourage to pose this border issue questions with the all the potential candidates in the national election. they should debate openly on national television, etc, not behind closed door; this way khmer public can judge and choose their the next leaders who passed the test. this is a real democratic way of governing. if they duck the question, we then will know that they have something to hide from the khmer public, etc... hey, wake up, people! look for solution to sovle our national issues, etc...

Lok Var Kim HOng:

You said in the 70s "We had dug canals, and border rivers, but those rivers do not reflect the border".

On this point I have two question for your excellency:

1.) When you say "We", are you referring to yourself and your government (Hanoi) or the Cambodian government? Because as "We", the Khmer people, know the canals were dug by Vietnam, so therefore "We", particularly "I" am confused when you say "We". You mean you were or are a Vietnamese official and national and speaking first and foremost for Vietnamese interest?

2.) You said that those features do not reflect the border. Then, if you knew that were the case, why waste resources and time on building it?

Let me state my opinion.
First, Vietnam constructed those features with the motive and intent to encroach deep into Cambodian territory. That we recognized this point first, means that those features had already been encroached unto Khmer land.

Secondly, now that those points (the pointed of encroachment) now becomes a "baseline" point for "unclear" and "no reflecting" of border, the Khmer territory is twice encroached when Vietnam is allowed further passed those already cookie points which they had plan in the first place.

Why Mr. Var Kim Hong, are you so adamant that Vietnam is right and that it has no motives and intention of encroaching or further encroaching in the process? It is natural for every country to demand more and play politic to get the most of their negotiation. As a top diplomat, why are you obvious to this fact and keep putting forth Vietnam as a saintly neighbor?

For those reason, I can only conclude the following reasons:

1) You are a coward. A strongman, but an incompetent man in face of adversary and tough negations with foreign elements.

2) You are a Vietnamese agent masking as a Khmer working with a clear and intentional motives to detrimental of Cambodia.

Finally, it doesn't matter to me which of the two category you fall into. They are the same. One is you are what in Khmer folklore we term "Ah Ton Kap Yeak" (Ah meek man cutting a Demon), in other words you cower before foreign diplomats especially Vietnamese president Mr. Dung. You probably shake and bow your heads touching your toe, even prostrating, to show your respect and gratitude when you see a Vietnamese delegate in Cambodia.

This cowardliness, if you are a Khmer, might as well label you a Vietnamese. Because you have gone beyond and out of your way to please the Vietnamese officials and country.

top leadership ought to be held responsible from now on, if they can't handle that, then simply step down or out of the way and allow other capable people a chance to take cambodia further into reforms, etc... enough already! cambodia must call for competent leadership. this is the rule of law society now, not the dark ages anymore, ok!

if they can't handle the pressure, show them the doorway, really! this the 21st century, not the stone ages!

The Heng Samrin government before UNTAC election had a Vietnamese expert or adviser for every office.

Do you think Var Kim Hong is another Vietnamese expert in this regime?
