Who was on the list of Nguon Nhel advisors and receiving double pay?
  • CPP MP Nhem Thavy, he is Nguon Nhel's brother-in-law, as a MP, he is paid more than once by the NatAss
  • Hang Vichet, the director of the finance department of the NatAss secretariat, he is also paid more that once by the NatAss
A group of SRP MPs asked the National Assembly (NatAss) to explain the expense paid to the advisors of Nguon Nhel, the no. 1 NatAss vice-president. The SRP claimed that Nguon Nhel has up to 71 advisors. The SRP MPs’ letter sent to the NatAss on Friday last week noted the major expense on advisors for the NatAss leadership [from the CPP].

11 SRP MPs signed on a letter sent to Heng Samrin, the NatAss president, last Friday to ask for clarification in the major amount spent by the NatAss on advisors for the [CPP] NatAss leaders.

Son Chhay, the opposition whip, claimed today that he received the most recent news indicating that Nguon Nhel, the no. 1 CPP vice-president, has up to 71 advisors including CPP MPs and even the director of the finance department of the NatAss. Son Chhay said that, according to the pay ledger for the month of August, an amount of 100 million riels, i.e. $25,000, was spent on Nguon Nhel’s advisors alone.

The SRP MPs noted in their letter that the huge number of advisors led the NatAss to lose a lot of fund. Son Chhay claimed that other NatAss leaders seem to have a lot of advisors also. Furthermore, the SRP MP also complained about the blackout of information on the NatAss expense, especially regarding the payment to employees. This is the reason why the SRP MPs raised this issue to Heng Samrin for clarification.

Today, Nguon Nhel could not be reach to ask for clarification, he claimed that he is busy. Cheam Yeap, the CPP chairman of the NatAss finance committee, claimed that he did not see the SRP MPs’ letter yet and that he does not know how many advisors Nguon Nhel has either.

The irregularities in the NatAss spending have been heard several times already during the past 10 years, in particular involving the expense on employees. The SRP had raised the issue of blackout of information on the number of personnel employed at the NatAss secretariat.

However, Cheam Yeap rejected this fact, claiming that the NatAss did not hide anything and that the SRP MPs can learn about this information also if they so desire and if they attempt to contact the NatAss secretariat.

As far as I am concerned AH Nguon Nhel and AH Cheam Yeap is taking dirt poor Cambodian people for a fool! It is so true that there is no transparency on NatASS expense! Why? Why? Why? This is corruption in the highest form!

"Nguon Nhel's sister-in-law, as a MP, she is paid more than once by the NatAss."

=What the fuck is this? If AH Nguon Nhel's sister-in-law got pay twice for her work? And I would like to know what kind of work she had done for NatAss? Tell me what did she do for the NatAss for her to get twice? I have to wonder how much did AH Nguon Nhel pay himself! AH Hguon Nhel need to come out and defense his action!

The CPP top rank corrupted officials will do anything they can to help their friends and families get rich by giving them jobs that got nothing to do .
71 advisers for the unknown politician ? Are they that dumb that's why they need that many advisers ? I think Cambodian government got thousands of advisers even its a small country.

CPP is just like a train . Wherever the head goes by the body will follow. If the head is dumb the body is dumb too . Hun Sen speaks like a man who has never been educated , all his followers do the same. Almost everytime I listened to the CPP officials answer the questions , they talked like a little boy from the countryside who has never been to school. Sometimes they even called the opposition Party ignorant or stupid . None of CPP officials sound like politicians .

Nhem Thavy background.

Nhem Thavey is a male. He used to live in Houston, Texas for many years.

He came to work in Cambodia since the early 1990s because he has connection in Cambodia. He has relative who hold high government position in Cambodia so that is why he return to Cambodia. He used to be a judicial advisor, whatever that means in Cambodia.

He used to pastor a Cambodian church in South Main(or South Main Baptist Church) from early 1980s until he left Houston. I know who his son and his wife. I think he still has a home in the Houston area, or in Beaumont, Texas.

I am shocked to see his name on KI-Media. I used to have high respect for him because of his pastoral position and I'm being a christian. But over the years we saw Nhem Thavy on the news several times and we start to loose respect for him. Now his name pop up again on KI Media associated with corruption. It looks more and more like Nhem Thavy has sold his soul to corruption.

To have that many advisors around him, Nguon Nhiel must be a monkey.

Is there such a thing as check and balance in Cambodian government?

What about impartial committee, or an independent oversight board to control these irregularities?

Wow, these are the very things that keep Cambodia from going anywhere.
