Thai prime minister ready to discuss Cambodian temple conflict

Bangkok - Thailand is ready to discuss a border dispute over an ancient temple with Cambodia on the sidelines of an upcoming Asia-Europe summit, the prime minister said Sunday.

"I'm ready to talk with (Cambodian) Prime Minister Hun Sen concerning the Thai-Cambodian conflict over the Preah Vihear temple issue at the ASEM, scheduled for Brussels in October, " Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said in his weekly television address to the nation Sunday.

The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is a summit that has been meeting annually since 1996, alternately in Asian and European capitals.

Abhisit made clear that he would discuss the border dispute with Hun Sen at the sidelines of the summit. Thailand has thus far refused to accept outside intervention in the conflict, which sparked cross-border skirmishes in late 2008.

The 11th-century Preah Vihear temple, perched on a mountain-range that defines the two countries' common border, has been the source of territorial disputes between Thailand and Cambodia for decades.

The International Court of Justice in 1962 ruled that the temple belonged to Cambodia, but failed to pass judgement on land adjacent to the complex, giving rise to ongoing disputes.

In July 2008, UNESCO named Preah Vihear a World Heritage Site, despite objections from Thailand that the dispute is unresolved.

To me, what abhisit is saying is that he is ready to shit all over himself! Right, he is ready to shit all over himself. Nothing he says is worth listening to. Amen

The conflict should be settled by the UN since the first few bilateral talks failed.
So, why does Hun Sen still want to mess around with the bilateral talk?
His cronies and he want to divert the population attention from the corruption, dictatorship, poverty…..by playing under the guise of a one sided patriotism to west but not to the east.
Perhaps, they have something else up their sleeves for their personal gains.
Hun Sen is willing to do anything to stay in power. Assuming he loses the election tomorrow, he will not let go of his premiership. He is willing to turn Cambodia into a country of civil war. He cares less if Cambodia loses a few more millions people. That, what happened in 1993 under the nose of UNTAC.

There is nothing to talk about. We do what we want on our land and you do what's on yours. Cambodia has presented the management plan to UNESCO, therefore you need to work with Cambodia or leave Cambodia to its government to manage and move the tourism into full gear. Both country will benefit from the management plan. Just remember, the easiest way to access is from Thailand. Thai should consider developing what opportunity does it have to gain from the Cambodian Management Plan for Preah Vihear.

Jaiyo Jaiyo Jaiyo Cambodia.

Abhisit needs to acknowledge that that there is nothing to talk about because Preah Vihear belongs to khmer ever since. So, no need to talk and whoever set foot in the area without permission from the khmer authority should be persecuted or otherwise you are a legal tourist, then welcome. So, why did Abhisist want to make trouble with khmer? because he thinks that he can convince all Thai people to have conflict with Khmer but not all Thai people are as wicked as him. They told him to leave khmer alone knowing that khmer had suffered enough already. But Abhisit wanted to be famous for his role, unfortunately he forgot all about morality. Preah Vihear is locating inside khmer border, what a shame Abhisit! and if you are going to go to the UNESCO, well they will ask him, look at this world map, Preah Vihear is inside its border of Khmer, where are your eyes.
