Let us not forget that King Father is not the only Khmer leader making mistakes here.

All have made mistakes and there are those who knowingly make mistakes at the expense of Cambodia and her people.

The problems with Cambodia are multifactorial and they are compounded by geopolitics and greed, selfishness, short-sightedness on the part of the Cambodian leaders and undoubtedly the submissiveness of the Cambodian population with respect to their leaders.

Prince Sirimatak and Lon Nol had a chance to do many things he accused King Father of not doing in the 70s, but they failed the Cambodian people, especially those in the cities who supported them miserably.

The early enthusiasm for the Khmer Republic regime was genuine and the patriotic feelings were also running high as attested by the many young Khmers including my cousins who joined the Khmer Republic and died in the battlefields against the well-equipped and battle-experienced North Vietnamese forces.

Lon Nol and Sirimatak were so incompetent and their administration so corrupt that the Khmer Republic had never had a good chance of resisting the communists.

The Khmers need to take the destiny of their country into their own hands and begin to be a little bit more aggressive in holding their leaders accountable to their actions and behaviours.

Until then there will not be much hope for our country.

By reading this letter,
I'm convinced that
Vietnameses were asked by Sihanouk to come in Cambodia,
Khmer-rouges were forced by Sihanouk to kill Khmers,
Vietnameses came in Cambodia in 1979 to save Cambodians from Pol Pot,
all of Khmers must venerate Vietnameses
and accept to change Cambodia to a province of Vietnam.

Anonymous said...

Nobody asked Vietnamese to come to Cambodia.

They just came because they wanted our land. History repeated itself.

Anonymous said...

Look at the Thais in Preah Vihear area.

Who asked them to come?

Nobody!

They came because they can't get enough of the Khmer land.

The Cambodians have no choice but to find ways to work together through unity to safeguard their ancestral land; otherwise they shall become the minority in their own land and time will tell.

Leave his Majesty King Father alone. He had done important positive long lasting legacies for Cambodia.

Lon Nol was already a failure. Siri Matak was clearly a MURDERER. At least, Lon Nol never betrayed his loyalty to His Majesty King Father, but Siri Matak pushed Lon Nol to do it. Lon Nol was just a tool used by that vengeful Siri Matak who held PERSONAL grudge against King Father.

The fact that the Americans DECIDED to abandon Siri Matak and the Lon Nol regime clearly indicated that the Lon Nol regime was already a goner. King Sihanouk already gave the interview to Times Magazine about the American weakness against the Northern Vietnamese troops. From this Vietnamese victory, King Father already concluded that the Americans could not win the war. So he steered Cambodia out of the Vietnam War carefully. In the interview to Times, King Father apologized to the American interviewer and described the incident as follows: The Americans always complained that the North Vietnamese refused to fight fairly and instead chose to engage in a hit and run tactics. However, the North Vietnamese decided to give a showdown with the Americans during the Tet Offensive. The North Vietnamese gave the conventional fighting that the Americans dearly wanted. The result was that the Americans lost that battle and eventually the war completely. King Father did his best to keep Cambodia out of the Vietnam War, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Siri Matak and Lon Nol decided Cambodia's faith in the other direction -- to side with the Americans instead. Look at the result: Yep, completely LOST and destroyed. South Vietnam chose the Americans, and it also got wiped out and lost. The Free Lao government also chose the Americans and got wiped out completely. The Hmongs also chose the Americans and they got defeated and slaughtered mercilessly.

Siri Matak thought he is shrewd politically by siding with the Americans, but he was dead wrong. Historians who studied the survival of the remaining territory of Cambodia placed it squarely on Cambodia's leaders abilities to engage in survival politics. Through some miscalculated steps in surivival politics by Cambodia's leaders in the past, the Cambodians almost lost the entire remaining territory of Cambodia. Go read up on the old Cham writing about the Cham people's sadness about losing their remaining territory to the Viets. The Chams of old blamed their Cham leaders about the misteps in the Cham politics that resulted in the loss of their entire nation. Cambodia was never free of foreign invasions since the ancient time. History shows that Cambodia was invaded and conquered by the Javanese, the Chams, the Tais, the Lao, etc. Even the Mongols threaten to overrun the Angkor. However, Jayvaraman the 8th decided to politically appease the Mongols instead through tributes.

So leave His Majesty King Father alone, he contributed much and more than anyone to the remaking of Cambodia.

Sihanouk - the builder and the destroyer at the same. He was so vengeful against his deposers that he would rather lose everything - the country, and the lives of the small people. And the guy never acdcepts responsibility for anything, always blamed the Americans. Oh, he lauded t he yuons so much, why did he fight against the yuons in 1979 to 1993?

King Father cannot be held responsible for all the destruction in Cambodia, but is not without responsibility either in the killing field of Cambodia.

No Cambodian leader including King Father is without a responsibility in the killing fields of Cambodia.

They all have blood on their hands.

Without King Father joining them, the Khmer Rouge may not be that successful in the war against Lon Nol. It might have cost Cambodia less if King Father had made a decision to call on his supporters to help resist the take over of Cambodia by the communists. He himself never likes the communists anyway so asking his supporters to join the KR whom he hates is doing nothing for Cambodia but for the hope that somehow he could come back to share power with them.

His decision to join the Khmer Rouge movement for his return to some power holds him responsible for the killing fields of Cambodia.

Only the willing-to-forgive Cambodian people can forgive him; any other race on earth would have fried him long time ago.

To all King Majesty puppets - Can your king save Cambodia from being controled by Vietname right now? Serimatak was right..by saying that Monarchy will go down the drain because of your majesty Sihanouk himself. Khmer still willing to forgive your king although they know that he had made several mistake by siding with Communist yourn and KR and conitinue the war in Cambodia. But he still choose to side with communitst again after 1979. This was seen clearly after 1993 that he kicked UN out of Cambodia and let Hun Sen ceded Cambodian land to Vietname. Your king doen't care about Khmer suffering but monarchy.

His Majesty the King Father hates the YUONs, period. The King may smile at their yucky faces, but the King still has his Preah Khan hidden behind the YUONs when the YUONs turn around. The the King will say, "Here you go, you crocodile YUONs!". Lol.

The King kicked the YUON azzes before, but the YUONs they were good at enduring the torture. Remeber right after the King gained independence for Cambodia in 1953? The black-toothed YUONs moved in their battallions to capture parts of Cambodia and to intimidate the King. The King commanded his Royal army to kick the YUON azzes but the YUONs refused to leave. So the King was humiliated by the YUONs and the King had to think far about securing the peace and stability for Cambodia. Then later on, the Southern YUON troops also crossed over into Cambodia without respecting Cambodia's territory borderline. The Suthern YUON troops also captured several Cambodia's islands. The King was humiliated the second time. Then the Amerians also dropped bombs on Cambodia and the King was further humiliated. Now back the west side, the Thais also humiliated the King with their forces capturing Preah Vihear temple for themselves all over again.

The King had to find a way to protect Cambodia's territory, but no one understands the King at all.

Even the current border issues, it was the King HIMSELF who INITIATED the REVIEWS of all border lines with YUONs. It was never HUN Sh*t. Then Hun Sh*t started acting tough that he would never allow the King Father to do that because King fathe was not elected to lead the government of Cambodia and sh*t. Now Sam Rainsy exposed Hun Sh*t's submissive position to the YUONs.

So leave King Father alone, all you jerks. Lol. Here is a recap, all you jerks. During King Father's administration of Cambodia, Ah Thais invaded Cambodia, ah Northern YUONs invaded Cambodia, ah Southern YUONs invaded Cambodia, and even your lovely heroic Americans invaded Cambodia. So just sh*t the f*ck up if you don't what was going on back then. I know non of us was not born yet at the time, but durhhhh go read it up in the book "Cambodia: A Country Study" for your history knowledge, you fools. Lol.

King Father my ass!
All of you must be kidding about this fucking Cambodian killer. Only 1.7 million Cambodians were killed by this stupid Khmer Rouge Leader "Norodom Sihanouk".

Anonymous said...

7:35, Khmer Rouge Leader? Are U that stupid. Lol. Sihanouk is seen hugging with all other leaders around the world, does that mean he was the leader of those ntions too? Here is the breakdown for a slowminded person as you.

(1) Siri Matak kicked Sihanouk out and also wanted to assinate the king as well. Sihanouk himself was thwarted from numerous assination attempts while he was the leader of Cambodia.
(2) Siri Matak invited the Americans to enter Cambodia to rid off the Northern Vietnamese and the Khmer Rouge troops.
(3) Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge troops outsmarted the inexperienced Siri Matak Republican troops.
(4) Siri Matak's Republican troops were defeated at every battle against the Khmer Rouge and Northern Viet troops.
(5) Siri Matak's friendship with the Americans brought forth the American allies such as the Thais, and the Southern Vietnamese into Cambodia to help the Americans get rid of the Khmer Rouge and the Northern Vietnamese troops.
(6) At the end, Siri Matak's Republican troops could do no jacksh*t against the Communist troops and eventually, the Khmer Rouge captured Cambodia and barbecued Siri Matak as their prized food because the dude was so tough by wanting to die. Actually, the dude deserved it because he was the one, according to documents, that wanted to kill king father back in the days.

7:16 AM,

If you want to argue on the role of Sihanouk in Cambodian history, you should learn to keep your English decent and stop swearing.

We know enough swear words to give them back to you, but we won't use them at all.

We also read history books and in addition we live through the periods starting from 1953 so we had the actual experiences and there is no need for you to tell us to go and educate ourselves. You are entitled to your political opinions about your Sihanouk and we are entittled to ours.

We will always consider Sihanouk to have some responsibility in the tragedy of Cambodia though we do recognize some of his contributions to the country.

It was/is Sihanouk fault.Since 1960,Sihanouk got along pretty well with N.Vietnam by let N.Viet to use Ho Chi Minh trail croosing inside Khmer territory against S.Vietnam. Sihanouk helped supporting Viet soldiers by providing tons of sack rice, smoked fish, dried fish and so on.He continued to support them until 1970.He asked Viet to invade Khmer in 1970 to get power for him.Sihanouk is a greedy prince who wants to keep monarchy and the throne just for his own family line only.Sihanouk doesn't care how much Khmer people dying. Now Khmer people must abolish monarchy.Stand up;be united as brave Khmer.Yesterday Khmer must stop thinking about it,Khmer must solve problems right now.The giant wave of Viet is covering Khmer heads.Khmer must solve right away.Stand up,wake up,rise up against Sihanouk,Hun Sen,and Viet as soon as possible.Don't be late.If it is too late Cambodia,Khmer will be like Champa,Low Cambodia or Lao.Bravo! All Khmer are brave!

8:25 AM,

Your King Father will go down in history as a controversial man no matter how much you try to give all the glory to him.

He deserves some credit and glory, but not all. His mistake by joining the KR can never be erased from history.

Don't forget that he stood up in the UN General Assembly close to the end of 1975 defending the KR regime despite the fact that they had then already killed the Khmer Republic soldiers and other Cambodians evacuated from Phnom Penh by the thousands.

Only when he realized that the KR had no plan to give him any position in their new government that he decided to resign from the position of the Chief of State around March of 1976.

He does love Cambodia, but probably less than his monarchy and himself.

He is quite lucky because the Cambodian people are quite forgiving people and not very well educated. You wait for another 10-20 years; with more education and learning the younger Cambodians are going to hold their leaders responsible for a lot of things.

Anonymous said...

Sihanouk took Khmer national affairs to personally, meaning everything belonged to him, without him no Cambodia, and that was exactly what he did. Only him knew how to do things.

he joined the KR, knowing full well they would spit him out like a "cherry pit" after achieving their goal by using him, but his anger and thirst for revenge was already beyond control. In a way, he killed even dozens of his own relatives. Lon Nol and Sirik Matak were very reluctant republicans, they were forced to take the stance; the situation were so serious, it was forced on them by Sihanouk's dangerous policy. And the two even invited sihanouk back but it was too late, in this derichan king's opinion. Too Late !!!

There was no evidence Lon and Sirimatak or either one of them wanted to kill Sihanouk. It was the latter who killed anti-sihanouk critics. Yes, he had credits and discredits.

Hin Sithan, why are you continued to digging from the pass? You all should Thanks to our vietnamese to come to liberated you from Bon Bot.

Oh I forgot, Hin Sithan was Khmer Rouge Bon Bot.

Siri Matak's clear intension to kill Sihanouk was revealed by Lon Nol himself. Go google it. In addition, remember, this the YUON troops do not ever need to be invited into Cambodia. They can easily come and establish their positions at will and there is nothing the Cambodia's best and finest troops can do anything to them. So stop blaming King Father. How would you solve the problem if you were in Sihanouk's shoe? To the west, the Thais invaded Cambodia. To the South, the South Vietnamese invaded Cambodia. To the North, the North Vietnamese invaded Cambodia. Back to the inside of Cambodia, the Communists were waging a war because they thought that there guaranteed to be rulers of Cambodia after the French were kicked out. What was Sihanouk to do????? South Vietnamese refused to accept the borderline of Cambodia. Thailand refused to accept the borderline of Cambodia. Only the North Vietnamese promised Sihanouk that they will respect Cambodia's borderlines established by the French. Even Richard Nixon of America promised the world that he would respect Cambodia's territorial integrity borderlines. However, everyone betrayed Sihanouk because Cambodia was simply a weakly. It was then and it is now.

9:26 AM,

Come on, you don't study real history with objective goal by just googling the story. Anybody can put information on the net and it does not mean it is a true and correct information.

You are not that naive, are you?

Anonymous said...

9:26 AM,

You have raised several good points.

"How would you solve the problem if you were in Sihanouk's shoe?"

Keep Cambodia really neutral (not easy though) and do not play the west against the east since doing so makes you have no real friends in time of trouble. If you can't be neutral, then choose side. He chose the Chinese side, but he did it a little too late, at least later than the KR.

He used to denounce the Chinese back in the early 60s, some time around 1965 or 1966 so even the Chinese would never trust him and would prefer to work with the KR.

Sihanouk's policy of playing the west against the east was good and necessary because of the division among the Khmers, but it could only last a short time and the downside of that policy is that nobody could trust him and therefore they all pretended to be his friends when they needed him, but in fact, he had then no real friends at all!

Also too the problem is not just with Sihanouk alone. The Khmers were so divided and allowed themselves to be used by foreigners to the conflict in hope of getting their own benefits at the expense of the very country they professed to love.

You have the old CPP groups who served Vietnam's interests, the Pol Pot's group serving Chinese interests, the Lon Nol and Sirimatak serving American interests and the Son Ngoc Thanh's group serving the Thais and of cours, the Americans.

If they had all rallied to support Sihanouk in time, then Cambodia would have been able to follow a true neutral policy like Switzerland and may have been able to avoid all of the tragedy we experienced in the 70s.

Like it or not, Norodom Sihanouk, in my opinion, is still the best leader of all the leaders involved but he is also partly responsible for the tragedy committed by the KR.

"Who was Sirik Matak?
(1) Thought he should be king of Cambodia.
(2) Sirik Matak was appointed by Sihanouk appointed as Minister of Defence of Cambodia.
(3) Prom Thos, one of Lon Nol’s ministers told the historian Ben Kiernan that in around March of 1969, Sirik Matak had argued that Sianouk should be assassinated but Lon Nol rejected Sirik Matak’s assassination plan, calling it as “criminal insanity”.

(4) Forced Prime Minister Lon Nol to depose Sihanouk in the March 1970 with 3 army officers, compelling a weeping Lon Nol to sign the necessary documents at gunpoint.[11]
(5) Sihanouk was deposed as the head of state, and was condemned to death in absentia.
(6) The Khmer Republic was born in October 1970, and the Cambodian Campaign of April 1970, in which US and South Vietnamese forces entered Cambodian territory in pursuit of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops, had irrevocably involved Lon Nol's regime in the Second Indochina War.
(7) Khmer Republic had It had an overtly military character, Sirik Matak usually appearing in his full uniform as a Major-General and carrying a swagger stick.[13] Sirik Matak had the support of the Westernised urban 'elite'.
(8) The Khmer Rouge communists initiated their dry-season offensive to capture the beleaguered Cambodian capital on January 1, 1975. On April 1, 1975, President Lon Nol resigned and fled the country into exile in Hawaii; the Khmer Rouge had published a 'death list' with his name at the top, and their forces had now surrounded the capital.
(9) On April 12, 1975, Sirik Matak refused political asylum in the United States.
(10) However, Sirik Matak sought refuge with the IRC but was turned away. Then he sought political asylum at the French Embassy but the Khmer Rouge threatened to come into the compound and remove certain individuals by force if they did not go voluntarily. Accompanied by the French Vice-Consul Jean Dyrac and journalist Jon Swain[21], Bizot took responsibility for informing Sirik Matak that he was to be handed over to the Khmer Rouge[22]. Sirik Matak and the officials that remained along with him were likely executed by the Khmer Rouge on April 21, 1975.
(11) Sihanouk received confirmation that Sirik Matak, along with Long Boret, had been summarily executed by firing squad at the Phnom Penh Cercle Sportif on April 21; other reports state he was beheaded[23]. Henry Kissinger and others, however, note a report that Sirik Matak was shot in the stomach and left without medical aid to die over three days.[24]
(12) Sirik Matak had a son named Prince Sisowath Sirirath and is currently one of the leaders of the royalist FUNCINPEC political party.

12:08, stop being a loser already. Americans were squarely defeated both in Vietnam and Cambodia and also in Laos. Stop whinning already, ah loser boi. Lol. Ah Dead dudes vengeful Sirik Matak and ah Lon Nol bozos were known to the world as atrocious committers of crimes against the humanity, the Vietnamese residents of Cambodia. Ah bozos sirik Matak and ah Lon Nol fool thought that the Americans could help them get rid of the Khmer Rouge and the Vietnamese commies, but it was not so in the reality. Because ah bozo Sirik Matak and the fool Lon Nol were killing the Vietnamese residents in Cambodia, the South Vietnamese retaliated by driving their tanks over the innocent Khmer villagers at Phum Chantrea. So your Republic Regime was full of bloods, you loser! In the modern age, if those losers were still alive, both ah Lon Nol and the bozo Sirik Matak would already be tried for crimes against humanity in world court.

Ah bozo Sirik Matak and the fool Lon Nol sucked American cocks and they still lost the entire Cambodia.

Ah Pol Pot sucked the Chinese cocks, and they still lost the entire Cambodia.

Sihanouk never lost Cambodia to any foreigners. Get that fact into your head. Sihanouk had to deal with the invaders from every direction and he still outmanuvered them all. In fact he outlives all those dead foreign and domestic losers.

CAMBODIA UNDER SIHANOUK, 1954-70
(1) Sihanouk gained independence for Cambodia by the
1953.

(2) Upon Cambodian Independence and the French withdrawal in 1953 Thailand occupied Preah Vihear Temple in 1954.

(3) In April 1954, several Viet Minh battalions crossed the border into Cambodia. Royalist forces engaged them but could not force their complete withdrawal.

(4) In June 1958, the South Vietnamese invaded the Cambodian Stung Treng Province, supported by F-8F Bearcat fighters.

(5) By early 1960s Saigon closed the Mekong to the Cambodian boats.

(6) On 1 April 1968, Khmer Navy and South Vietnamese vessels exchanged gunfire in the Gulf of Siam.

(7) South Vietnamese troops presence on Cambodia’s ground was most troublesome to Sihanouk. To counter the South Vietnamese troops, throughout the 1960s Sihanouk therefore continued to tolerate the Vietnamese Communist presence in return.

(8) In reaction to Sihanouk, the South Vietnamese and Thailand, as well as the USA started supporting the Khmer Serei (KS) - or "Free Khmer" - guerillas, a nationalist and republican movement oppressed by Sihanouk. The US troops also became involved in the war in Cambodia: in a series of operations known under the code-name "Daniel Boone" the US and South Vietnamese special units were infiltrated into the country. The repetition of overflights by United States and South Vietnamese military aircraft within Cambodian airspace and border incursions by South Vietnamese troops in hot pursuit of Viet Cong insurgents who crossed into Cambodian territory when military pressure upon them became too sustained. As the early 1960s wore on, this increasingly sensitive issue contributed to the deterioration of relations between Phnom Penh and Washington.

(9) In August 1961, Sihanouk announced he was getting military supplies from the USSR, and at the same time he cancelled cooperation with the US military assistance delegation (MAAG), and ordered these to leave the country by the 1 January 1964.

However, Sirik Matak and Lon Nol wanted the Americans back so they deposed Sihanouk and when the Americans were allowed to enter the "neutral" Cambodia, the North Vietnamese stepped up their troops movements into Cambodia as well. To support the Lon Nol Regime, the Americans joined forces with Thailand, South Vietnam to chase away the Commies from Cambodia. However, the North Vietnamese supported the Khmer Rouge and were eventually took over Phnom Penh easily. Just as Sihanouk had predicted, Americans were just like the French would eventually be defeated by the Vietnamese.

So save your energy to write such lengthy comments to preach in this blogger if you have any conscience left in respect to the Khmer victims who lost their lives by this devil who can still wears Khmer identity. To debate with you is a waste of time because you do not know or cannot understand the depth of the suffering we have gone through, because you are in a position to be able to bark non stop. 1:48 PM,

You will soon see Triet's or any other vietcong's picture hanging on top of your mohaksathr's picture everywhere in Phnom Penh everytime any vietcong delegation comes to visit their colonial province.

Running to stay under the armpits of pekingnoises and pol pot did not make anyone a winner. That's what his consistent policy was about. He says "it did not what I did the vietcongs were all over already" and his current king-maker also says, "you better bring a coffin and write a will for your future widow, if you wanted to raise any question about the vietcongs." They are your winners...
