Mr. Liu, an author and intellectual who issued a call for democratic reforms in China in late 2008, received an 11-year prison sentence this year for seeking to subvert Communist rule. His wife Liu Xia, under house arrest in Beijing, has invited scores of supporters to attend next month’s Nobel ceremony, but few believe the government will allow them or her to attend.
The actions on Friday came on the heels of reports that China had pressured European nations in written démarches to boycott the Nobel ceremony next month in Oslo and to refrain from congratulating Mr. Liu on the award.
The A.P. also reported Friday that a number of European nations had acknowledged receiving China’s appeal to boycott the Nobel ceremony in Oslo next month, but those nations nevertheless plan to send their diplomats.

Here is my observation about Nobel Price for Mr Liu.
I was invited two weeks ago into one of the Chinese Embassy for a forum and to have public opinion about Nobel price for Mr Liu.
Many Chinese from the public have stressed that from their chinese eyes, Nobel Price organiser has unjustified for a qualified candidate for this Nobel Price. Two years ago, this Nobel Peace Price has gone to President Obama just only weeks after he took his office as New President of United States of America. He hasn't proved his effort for world peace as yet to have this Nebel Price. Therefore that Nebel Peace Price was to insult to many hard working individual before President Obama and their hard efforts has been ignored.
This year, this Nobel peace price has given to Mr Liu who has only published a book and he hasn't proved himself to have made any effort to world peace yet and this act is also insulted to many others in the world for their effort as well. So they think, organiser hasn't justified their candidate.
China is no longer an oppressed country like many ignorance here has assumed. I have been China for more than ten times and I have friends all over of China as I did in Cambodia. They have spoken openly and have their freedom to participate every part of China such as political, businesses and charity and I haven't seen a single police nor a soldier to create eyeshore in the public at all.
Unlike Cambodia, every where I saw plicemen and soldiers everywhere like ennoying pests in every part of the city and helping to protect criminals to steal their fellow citizen lands.
Therefore we need to focus onto our own country if we are not too sure about others. When we make wrong assumption about others, they would call us as barbarian ( ignorance citizen ).

Your analytical piece still does not justify the overall bullying tactics China has been committed towards to many others in the world. Look at Tibet for just an example.
For what you try to show us to see China is similar to the description were given by 4 blind men who try to tell people what elephant looks like. I understand your view, however you cannot compare the situation in China and in Cambodia as such, because it's like chalk and cheese.
It's only contradicting China political change if they are being very critical for Mr Liu to receive the prize.
What I understand the committee decision to bestow the prize to Obama and Mr Liu, is the highlight of fact that they don't consider for the volume of work but the perseverance and determination of the two great men who dared to take all of level of risks to achieve what they want to achieve.
