Neighbours Thailand and Cambodia shelled each other for a fourth straight day this morning.

The gunfire was heard near the disputed border area near the Preah Vihear temple, dating from the 11th century. Cambodia has accused Thailand of instigating the hostility asking the United Nations Security Council to intervene.

Cambodia claimed Thailand had sought to damage the temple with Prime Minister Hun Sen telling a crowd in Phnom, Penh this morning that :” The firing has started for the fourth time”. The violence has seen five killed.

The conflict stems from claims to the temple, with Cambodia being given ownership in 1962, despite the entrance to the temple being in Thailand and the area around the temple being disputed by both nations.
