And then recently, this week on 4 May 2011 we see a person named Sourn Sereyratha who claims he is a president of People Power Movement appeared on ASTV of Yellow-Shirt of Thailand, the extremist group who provoke war and hate Khmers to their bone, appealing to Khmer people to topple Hoon Xen by asking help from Thailand and use Thailand as its base for this movement. More, one of the remarkable points that he made in his speech then is that he accused Cambodia under Hun Xen as warmonger, meaning Thailand is a victim and just act in self-defense from Cambodian invasion as it always claims.
My question is why did Sourn Sereyratha use Yellow-shirt forum? And why is it this time? Trying to figure out the issue, I may conclude it as the followings according to my understanding.

My question is why did Sourn Sereyratha use Yellow-shirt forum? And why is it this time? Trying to figure out the issue, I may conclude it as the followings according to my understanding.
It is Hun Xen’s political ploy to destroy the Opposition (Sam Rainsy Party):
- Sourn Sereyratha is known as an OPPORTUNIST when he was in Cambodia. He joint Students’ Movement for Democracy in 1998 and then was dismissed from the group for his misbehavior and dishonesty, esp., corruption. He never criticized Cambodian government when he was in Cambodia. But he starts this drum only when he got the political asylum in USA taking the chance Cambodian government cracking down on its critics (border activists) on the signing of the 2005 illegal supplemental treaty with Vietnam by claiming that he had the connection with those border activists. Suspiciously, there must be something behind.
- Sourn Sereyratha was offered a position by Hun Xen’s cabinet . Whether it is true or not, it proves to be somehow correct with one of the cases. If we know this man since he resides in USA is known for his sharp-tongue in criticizing Hun Xen, Khmer kings and all the leaders of Cambodia with no exception even the opposition leaders, but he was safe when he visited Cambodia at the end of 2010 and got engaged to a girl in Phnom Penh. Surprisingly, three Cambodians were arrested when they came back from Thailand to listen to his speech in Bangkok.
- In Cambodia, when people hear the word ” Opposition” (neak prochhaing), they think it is Sam Rainsy Party (SRP). Hun Xen knows clearly that Cambodian people don’t like the Thai Yellow-Shirt or PAD, the alliance of Thai Democrats. Hun Sen also used to say publicly that SRP is close to the Democrats of Abhisit and he paints SRP as bad as PAD of Thailand. So it is not surprising at all that Hun Xen may use Sourn Sereyratha to join hand with PAD to discredit and demoralize the SRP or neak prochhaing since it is thought to be the right time to strike. Hun Xen realizes that Sourn Sereyratha is not an important figure in Cambodian politics and his words cannot undermine his government´s international diplomacy regarding to the Thai-Cambodian conflicts but can help feign domestically the Cambodian public for his political gains . Now it is clear that many pro-Hun Xen newspapers run their story about this by combining Sourn Sereyrath’s demnad to topple Hun Xen government and Sam Rainsy’s appeal to Hun Xen’s step down. And the effective weapon is that those news just say pouk prochhaingor krom prochhaing without distinguishing who is who which can easily confuse the general public which leads to misunderstandings making them to think that SRP are not patriotic but traitorous and stop the support.
In fact, the use of Sourn Sereyratha has three political benefits to Hun Xen:
- He acts as a divider, esp., oversea Cambodians who are strong supporters of SRP, and feign the public in order to weaken the Opposition.
- He can dig out many opponents against Hun Xen from all sources, infiltrate himself with other Khmer nationalists and send their names to Hun Xen for execution.
- He can paint a very bad image of all the oppositions. He now lifts up his status too high asking for equal status negotiation with Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha in order to unite all the democrats. But what is this guy when he was in Cambodia? This makes some people think that Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha are not sincere in politics for not having the political will to unite with him.
People should know that Sourn Sereyratha is the opposition against the Opposition. And in his speech he speaks against Cambodian government, too, but in the hidden agenda as I mentioned above no one clearly knows about this.

That is why I have seen many KI bloggers and readers accused Mr. San Rainsy and SRP members involved with Thai Yellow shirted party. That was not true. This guy was politically involved to confuse the Cambodian voters and he is also paid by CPP Yuon members or Hun Sen to play political games. He is similar to Kem Sokha who got paid to divide the SRP. Now, Kem Sokha is not coming to Washington state to give the speech, but he will be in Texas instead. Kem Sokha will be the same as Sourn Sereyratha who gave speech to Yellow PAD in Thailand to confuse to mislead SRP members or voters along and CPP supporters or HRP supporters.
I would Whao, Khmer people watch out those scum Sourn Sereyratha and Kem Sokha to try to divide SRP party, mislead the SRP supporters, HRP and CPP voters are victimized by CPP.

It seems everyone is trying to use the Cambodia-Thailand conflict for their political or popularity benefit. If they want the conflict to be solved properly, they are better give advice to the government or criticize the government in a constructive way. They should not attract in hatred way like Mr Sam Rainsy or Mr. Sourn Serey Ratha did recently. And now Mr. Pang Sokheoun come in to make thing more confusing.

They both party in the hand of the Xen and the YOUN, which is to destroy and kill the SRP party down to its core during one of the Xen rambling speeches.
The Xen doesn't use bullets anymore against the SRP. Instead he uses the HRP, Ratha, and the kangaroo court in Cambodia.
When the HRP and Ratha are gone, the Xen will send in more sweet talkers and in action dividers.

Mr. Pang Sokheon's article make the reader more confused and think in difference ways. Bc we don't really know who is Mr. Sourn Seryratha. He might be himself to take the advantage from the situation. We can tell, at leased the reader realized the word "People Power Movement?". What the hack is that?

Amount the 14 millions Cambodian or so, there are some support CPP and the government, some support RSP and Mr. Sam Rainsy, and some support other political parties or personalities. There is nothing wrong about this...

I read your anlysis with a great interest, but I cannot imagine that Sourn Ratha who speaks broken English is Hun Sen's political ploy. But he can be a target of Hanoi if not careful.
Sourn Ratha appears to be a very nationalist, and he is very brave to carry the torch, and this kind of character is hard to find. Rath is a straight forward guy. But I am very concern that his courage can be fallen into Vietnamese's games or a target of Hanoi, and Hanoi will use Ratha's activities and his connection with Yellow shirts against the opposition leader Sam Rainsy who has nothing to do with it.
I don't agree that Sourn Ratha wants to destroy his own country and his Khmer people, but his poor knowledge of Geopolitics, the policies of Vietnam expansionism in Cambodia could possibly cost him and Khmer nationalists dearly if Ratha is not careful.
Hun Sen is not a war monger but just a puppet, the war monger is Vietnamese who engineered this conflict between Thais and Khmers. However Hun Sen is a monster to his own people.
The one good thing Ratha accomplished is that he sent a clear message to let Thai people know that the Vietnamese are the masters and are the problems not Khmer people.
As long as the Viets are in Cambodia, Khmers will never be freed, the Thais will never abandon this Hindu Temple to the hands of Vietnam expansionism in Cambodia.

I think this is guy is a puppet of Hun Sen for real. Look back on that 2010 he never got any threaten from Hun Sen to enter Cambodia.

Hun Sen always barked: "Those who criticizes me the most are my people."
So, if we take that into perspective, Sam Rainsy criticize Hun Sen a lot, by why is Sam Rainsy not Hun's person? Because Sam Rainsy constantly stands against the business interest of Hun Sen.
Hun Sen's people only bark to paint an image, will never willfully, cause business damage to Hun Sen - exactly like Mr. Ratha.
Mr. Ratha is exposed now, as the puppet Hun Sen declared when he gave the speech that among the best barker, is his own person.
I watched mr sourn serey ratha tv show. I can tell that with so much emotional words he used, he definitely attract some support from people who hate PM Hun Sen. If he had done this in other place and not involved the thai Yellow thirt, I think he would be a "big hero" for many. Unfortunately, all his reasonings were very misleading. He attacked only PM Hun Sen, but he forgot that the Yellow Thirt is also the main actor in the conflict. He said that PM Hun Sen tried to kill khmer on both side of the border, but he did not mention about dirty tactic of Thai military by using cluster-bomb again Cambodia. He insulted Vietnam, Loas and Myanmar that are nothing to do with the conflict in a proper sens. He hailed Thailand as democratic model in Asia, but he should understand that in term of democratic, Thailand is not much better than Cambodia, and the main point is his alliance, the PAD do not want democratic in Thailand either, they prefer military coup.
Even with these rhetorics, Mr. Pang Sokheoun still tried to paint Mr. Sourn Serey Ratha as "secret agent of Hun Xen". I think the best way is that we should stay away from a dangerous person like Mr. Sourn Serey Ratha.
Mr. Sam Rainsy or SRP should play a proactive role in order to build a unity voice against the aggression of Thailand rather than trying to oppose the government but did not give a concrete solution. Mr. Sam Rainsy's letter asking PM Hun Sen to step down, and the letter of some SRP MPs asking PM Hun Sen to remove FM Hor Numhong from office and lately another letter asking the government using the Paris Agreement are very confusing solution from SRP. Of cause, we cannot agree everything the government do, but the alternative solution should be more consistent.

I, Pang Sokheoun, would like to make myself clear that I am the ONLY son in my family. So he who tries to connect myself with Sam Ek as his brother is far imagined.
As I know the person who wrote this is surely ONLY Sourn Sereyratha. I am told that Ratha has misled many Cambodians who live overseas that I am a younger brother of Sam Ek or Sakada, the person who was arrested by Hun Sen´s regime accusing him as a leader of terrorist group.
I really dont know why he has tried to paint me that way or he thinks I am his obstacles since he cant beat me in many forum of discussions.
I would like to inform all beloved people that Sourn Sereytha does have contact with Sam Ek long ago. So please think about this.

Sourn Serey Ratha : A Patriot?

The term patriot by definition is a person who loves and loyally or zealously supports his own country. Patriotism is a virtue by which one conducts one’s self accordingly if one is a patriot. This does not mean that a patriot has to agree to or support leaders or laws that are unjust. A patriot would raise the national consciousness about the issue and try to influence change with the purpose to preserve national sovereignty, national integrity, and national dignity. In this sense, Martin Luther King jr. of the U.S, Mohandas Gandhi of India, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Ong Doung of Cambodia are true patriots. Their actions demonstrated a profound love and support for their countries.
A patriot would never acquiesce to anything that causes irreparable damages national sovereignty. He or she looks and thinks long and hard before taking any action. It should be noted that there is a common characteristic among patriots. Their actions are not designed to promote themselves; theirs tend to be ones that promoted the well beings of others. For example, Marthin Luther King jr drew national attention to racial inequality in America, Mohandas Gandhi put India’s independent issue front and center, Nelson Mandela put an end to apartheid in South Africa and only served one term as its president, Ong Doung sought French protection to saved Cambodia from its aggressive neighbors.
By contrast, Sourn Serey Ratha’s actions may appear to be patriotic but if one looks closer, he has caused irreparable damages to democratic movements for Cambodia and his latest action by appearing with the Thai yellow shirt forum constituted anything but patriotic.
While Cambodian people are thirsty for a new dynamic leader to lead changes to toward democracy, here comes Sourn Serey Ratha. A quick search in google, one would find his impressive activities most of which has a single purpose; that is, a self promotion. Instead of promoting the movement, he appears to make sure that he is the center of attention. With a quick analysis, one can pin point that every activity or organization he has thus far involved, it is all about Sourn Serey Ratha.
His latest action where he put himself squarely in the middle of international conflict that caused by a group of irrational group who has no respect for international law, once again confirms how desperate Mr. Sourn is to get the attention. If the attention he wants, this is the kind of attention he deserves.
For those who hate the notion that Cambodia’s aggressive neighbors whose intention is to always dominate the region by dominating Cambodia should completely reject Sourn Serey Ratha. Preah Vihea was built by Khmer and the International Court confirmed in 1962 that it is belong to Cambodia. The Thais claimed that Preah Vihea is theirs, and Sourn Serey Ratha’s appearance in their forum implies that he supports their false claim. This constitutes the most unpatriotic thing a person in his capacity could have done.
For those who find our history fraught with incompetent Kings or leaders who always ran to the neighbor countries for supports just to hold on to a personal ambition by putting national sovereignty at risk should see Sourn Serey Ratha in the same vein. His willingness to twist the true nature of Cambodia and Thailand conflict in order to gain recognition or acceptance by this irrational group of people is a clear indication that he is willing to do any the reach his personal ambition. He is but a dangerous man.

It is very sad to conclude with certainty that Cambodia has moved back to the old times when it comes to dealing with her aggressive and ambitious neighbours who are watching for every opportunity to interfere in her own affairs for their benefits.
Any Cambodian who wants to hold a political power and becomes a leader of the country should ask himself/herself if he/she wants that position to improve the livelihood of the majority of Cambodians who are still very poor by the international standard/average or if he/she is doing it for his/her own livelihood, prosperity and power.
It is indeed unthinkable that an individual by the name of Sourn Serey Ratha has stooped to anything simply to achieve a personal gain.
So what exactly does Mr. Sourn wants to do?
Assuming that Thailand wants to share the rewards of Cambodia with Vietnam and decides to sponsor Mr.Sourn with money and everything he needs to recruit a new army to fight with the current Cambodian army in the name of liberating the country from all the evils of communism or whatever he wants to call the regime of Phnom Penh by, we will be back at square one of starting a new civil war where one side depends on the Vietnamese and the other obviously on the Thais.
With this situation in place and let us assume that, though it may be a wrong assumption, but it is certainly a possibility, Mr. Hun Sen does indeed want to free himself off the Vietnamese bondage; we can see that he will be pushed right back and deeper into the hands of the waiting Vietnamese.
There are so many individuals in the CPP who want Mr. Hun Sen's chair and are willing to serve Vietnam's interests if Mr. Hun Sen does not want to do it anymore.
Though Mr. Hun Sen may want to free Cambodia from Vietnam, he won't do it as he loves himself more than Cambodia and he is afraid of being replaced by someone in the CPP who is willing to serve Vietnam if he does not want to do it anymore.
There are many individuals who had come to live in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia in the 1980s; they went back to Cambodia and are now holding high positions in the Hun Sen's government.
Have they applied what they saw and learned when they were in the developed countries in their daily work to help Cambodia as a country or are they simply returning for the sake of having the opportunity to enrich themselves and have become as corrupt as or even worse than those officers of the CPP?
The only way for Cambodia to get out of Vietnamese influence and become independent and prosperous is Cambodians being willing to stop fighting among themselves, refusing to serve foreign interests in order to enrich themselves and truly working for Cambodia by turning away from corruption, cronyism, nepotism and selfishness.
I certainly feel sorry for Cambodia as I do not see her being able to get herself out of the mess she is in unless her children, one by one, begin to realize that for her to survive, they must stop wanting to enrich themselves at her expense.

Looking good but the big question behind in everyone's mind about sourn Ratha is that why didn't Yuon and hun sen shoot him? Why did Yuon shoot other stars who just sung a patriotic song like touch srey nich? Revolution is a result of an oppression. If you carry on to oppress a group of people, they will rise up against you as revolution.
When Pol Pot oppressed people from 1975-1979, a group of people went to vietnam for their support to rise up against Pol Pot regime. Now it repeat itself after 36 years of this cycle to repeat again. After ruling 36 years, this same group who have seek Vietnam for support has taken turn as an oppression group. Therefore it is unavoidable to have another group who couldn't bare to be oppressed to seek another power for a revolution.
This kind of cycle is a lesson for Cambodian future leaders to learn how to avoid this cycle to repeat again and again.
We must build a true democratic system with good distribution of power. We must make sure that none has the absolute power for the Nation. To do this we must have strong National Institutions which can control people of all levels to abuse their power.
Each position must have their position manual with full descriptions of their power, salary, allowance, holidays and term of their position. People must be free from expressing their political views without any fears of any thread. We must use taxation as a mean to distribute wealth from each individual to make sure everyone has contribute to the Nation according to their ability.

If Sourn Serey Ratha can travel back and forth between Cambodia and Thailand without having any problem with Hun Sen and his government, the people of Cambodia should know better. Khmer people should label him as a con artist.

About Pang Sokhouen:
When I was leading the Student Movement for Democracy, Pang Sokhouen was a deputy general secretary and one of the main leaders of students from Phnom Penh Royal University (among Um Sam An, Men Nath and Kim Kao Kanitha...) After achieving his MA in Political Science, Manila, he came back to Cambodia and was elected as 3rd president of SMD after the 2nd, Um Sam An. Soon later, he was also elected as president of Youth Council of Cambodia, YCC (a five-united youth organizations). During the time, he was very outspoken against gas price rising and those 79, 82, 83, 85 Khmer-viet treaties. Consequently, he and other activists were forced to leave Cambodia due to safety concern (including Men Nath, and Ir Channa).
About Sourn Serey Ratha:
He used to be known as Sourn Ratha and a classmate of Men Nath, at PP Royal University, social department, staying in Neakavon Pagoda, Toul Kok. During the 1998 mass movement,he was assigned to be in charge of overseeing those donated fund, (with Eap Seang and others). He had contributed a great devotion for SMD and the mass movement. During the brutal crack down on the demonstrators, those who were in charge of finance failed to control the money that led to creating some doubt. To be me, it was hard to make any judgment for such circumstance.
After coalition government formed, as soon as I come back from Bagkok, Ratha approach me. I did not talk much to him at the time because I did not really know what to do next. I just wanted to do some SWOT for SMD before making any move. It seemed like or he might think that I ignored him. In fact, I did not have any ill will toward him even though people talk bad about him. I had been waiting for him to approach me again but unfortunately and regretfully, it had never happened. That's all I can say about him.
Nevertheless, I am so proud of them, Pang Sokhouen and Sourn Ratha, who come this far. Their political career and destiny are in the own hand.
Lastly, I wish the power of love they have for the nation brighten the right path to walk on and they will become successful politicians who serve best the interest of the Khmers.

You said the world did not know about Vietnamese are doing in Cambodia? No, no, you are wrong about that. European countries, US and most the countries that do the business with Vietnam knew about Vietnam expansionism in Cambodia. Why did not they say anything? Because Khmer Leaders did not ask them for helps, or they do not care or else, I am still trying to follow the event.
I have tried to tell some of my Khmers to observe and learn not just inside Cambodia but at outside as well, the GEOPOLITICS, the Policies that the superpower nations such as US, China, Russia, India, Japan... play in South East Asia, every Khmer MUST KNOW.
ONE PERSON can scream for HELP from outside is King Sihanouk, because he was the one who started it, then he is the one could help. For some reasons this King stays quiet I assume he may have been advised by China to shut up or he just does not care anymore about Cambodia except his own family, I don't know I only assumed.
I am not inside his mind so I cannot accuse him but I only assume.

I don't know Sourn Ratha nor I met him.
I refuse to judge him as a bad guy or a good guy, I only share my comment with all of KI readers that whatever or whoever Sourn Ratha is, he has sent a clear message to the world to knew about the Vietnamese have been presence in Cambodia, though they already knew about Viets in Cambodia.
Sourn Ratha can be:
(1)-Nationalist who dares to stand up against the Vietnamese invaders and against Hun Sen.
(2)- Sent by Hun Sen to see inside Yellow Shirt movements. If he works with Hun Sen then Hanoi has all the juice.

Pang Sokhoeun is right. He was activist of STUDENTS' MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRACY (SMD) in 1998. Then he elected as the President of SMD in 2004 after he graduated the Master Degree in Manila, Philippines.
SOURN SEREYRATHA (real name is Soun Ratha) was activist of SMD also but he was a student who had never loyalty with all the friends. He was a classmate with Mr. MEN NATH of Sociology (academy year: 1996-2000). Men Nath is now in Norway and he is the President of the CAMBODIA WATCHDOG COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL (CWCI).
In 2005 Sereyratha wrote a fund proposal for Free Union of Workers of CHEA MONY, (the young brother of CHEA VICHEA). He used the Union's name to ask the foundation from an Organization in United Kingdom but he used his personal bank account in the Union’s Proposal. After Chea Mony came back to Cambodia in February 2006, he checked it so he found Seryratha and his colleague had done. Then Chea Mony, Rong Chhun and the steering committee sacked his colleague out. But Sereyratha was not member of the Union so the Union informed the donor that ‘’Sereyratha was cheating’’.
