"Khmer toops must leave; Agreed to observers; Khmer troops must leave": Does Thailand have an inkling of what it "really" wants?

Gen Prawit: Cambodian troops must leave

Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has supported Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's demand that Cambodia withdraw its troops from the 4.6 square kilometre disputed area around Preah Vihear before Indonesia sends its observers there.

"The prime minister has spoken clearly about this and the armed forces are of the same opinion," Gen Prawit said on Monday.

"Cambodian soldiers must withdraw from the disputed area before any other steps can be taken."

Gen Prawit said that there should be a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) first, to explore ways of enabling Thai and Cambodian troops to both stay in place before an agreed terms of reference is signed to allowed the Indonesian observers into the disputed area.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong were today due to meet in Jakarta to try and find a way out after the two sides remained deadlocked because Cambodia insisted it would not withdraw its troops from the disputed area around Phreah Vihear, which it terms its "own territory", as demanded by Thailand.

Gen Prawit said he hoped the two sides could finally agree on a common ground.

A Defence Ministry source said Gen Prawit will attend the Asean Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) in Indonesia on May 18 to 21.

He is expected to discuss with Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Banh preparations for the 8th GBC meeting, even though Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen wants Thailand to allow Indonesian observers into the disputed area before proceeding with bilateral meetings, said the source.

Meanwhile, a group of Cambodian illegal loggers fired five rocket-propelled grenades at Thai border police in Si Sa Ket province then retreated in the face of retaliatory gunfire on Sunday night.

Police on Monday said a 16-strong border patrol came across the timber poachers while patrolling a wildlife conservation area in Si Sa Ket's Phu Sing district.

The loggers fired five RPGs at the border police, who fired back using an M79 grenade launcher and M16 assault rifles. The fighting lasted about five minutes and then the interlopers fled.

On Monday morning police found bloodstains and large supply of food in the area. At least two loggers were believed to have been injured during the clash.

The area is definitely in Thai territority since it is about 10 kilometres from the Cambodian border, police said.

The Siem thuggish leaders can demand the moon and the star and nobody would give a damn! These Siem thuggish leaders must stop playing game and start getting serious about peace, prosperity, and stability for the ASEAN!

As for peace and stability and Cambodia is in line with
ASEAN policy! Cambodia welcome ASEAN leadership!

You would think that by now they should be a little humble that they even have Thailand, a land that they stole from the Khmer empire.

Give the Siam thief the 4.6km. if they give back Bangkok and all the land 100Km around it.

that is the solution.

Kasit said Thailand agreed, Prayudth said Thailand didn't agree, Abhisit said none of the above. What kind of fuck up is this? How can anyone negotiate with these Thai crooks?

Hi all,
I agreed with everyone that Khmer troops mustn't leave, but what I knew about is Thailand means that Hanoi troop must leave. You saw only some Khmers in the pictures but the ones who led the army behind are Vietnamese.

Thailand is intentionally stalling the peace process. To demand Cambodia pulling out from its territory is to stop peace talk from moving ahead.

Hi 5:30 AM
You under-estimate Thailand and the world. They all knew that Vietnamese are behind creating this fight between Khmers-Thais.

I am Khmer but I condemn "WAR", and I do not side with Thais or with Khmers like Hun Sen who serve Hanoi's interest.

As long as the Vietnamese soldiers hide in Hun Sen army in Cambodia, Thais will never withdraw. Why should they?

This what a blogger wrote,"know what
someone knew the one it didn't know
he still did not know".
The old Khmer saying said,
"សៀមមិនចោលក្បួន យួនមិនចោលពុត"
The Thai and Vietnam never backed
out their evil act toward Cambodia, after Khmer empire.

Thai and Vietnam never have had given up to wipe Cambodia out of
the world map like Champa in Vietnam and Lovo kingdom in Thai.
Cambodia will wipe out and become
a province of Vietnam.
