On 21 June 2011, Mr. François Brottes, a Member of Parliament from the French Socialist Party, wrote to Mr. Alain Juppé, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to express his concern about the political situation in Cambodia and the case of opposition leader Sam Rainsy.
Here are the main points in Mr. Brottes’s letter to Mr. Juppé:
« Je souhaite, par la présente, attirer votre attention sur la situation au Cambodge, et plus particulièrement sur le cas de Sam Rainsy, leader de l’opposition.
En effet, un nouveau coup a été porté au processus démocratique dans ce pays lorsque Sam Rainsy, élu au Parlement cambodgien, a été déchu de son mandat de député. Les différentes accusations qui ont été portées à son encontre sont uniquement fondées sur des motifs politiques.
Il apparaît essentiel que le respect de la liberté d’expression et des droits de l’Homme soient au centre de la construction démocratique lancée lors des Accords de Paris en 1991.
Aussi je me permets de vous solliciter afin que le gouvernement français se positionne clairement sur cette situation et apporte son soutien à la démocratisation politique du Cambodge. »

« I wish to draw your attention, with this letter, to the situation in Cambodia, and more specifically to the case of Sam Rainsy, the opposition leader.
As a matter of fact, a new blow has been dealt to the democratic process in that country when Sam Rainsy, an elected member of the Cambodian parliament, was stripped of his parliamentary seat. The different charges levied against him are only based on political grounds.
It seems essential that the respect for freedom of expression and human rights be at the center of the democratic construction launched with the Paris Agreements in 1991.
I beg you to ensure that the French government adopt a clear position on this issue and show its support for the political democratization of Cambodia. »

there are more to cambodia than just sam rainsy, mr. french socialist party! by the way, socialist party sounds like a minority political party in france, almost synonymous with communism, i think, really! and they wanted to support sam rainsy for making trouble in cambodia then run away and hide in france! go figure! cambodia only support well-known party in france, not some minority party that probably made up of only 0.001% in french assembly, etc, really!
No worry. If I were Hun Xen I would let the man back in a few months before the elections. This would make my democracy look acceptable while the man could make no difference. A stupid man would be glad to come in then.
