Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen called for "high attention" to children on the occasion of the 62th anniversary of International Children's Day.

In his message to mark the day on June 1, the premier said: "I' d like to appeal to all national institutions, communities and all Cambodian people to pay particular attention to children as they are the backbone of the country in the future generations."

He added that the government has vowed to increase interventions in social affairs through the increase of the national budget expenditures on education, health and children welfare improvement programs in order to meet the basic needs of children.

"On behalf of the government, I fully support all activities aiming at assisting basic needs of children," he said.

In a related event on Wednesday, a well-known local right group Licadho also marked the event by distributing food and materials to children and pregnant women in 14 of Cambodia.

The government reports showed that some 730 juvenile prisoners have been incarcerated in Cambodia's 25 prisons as of April.

Also, Cambodia's prisons are home to approximately 14 pregnant women and nearly 40 children who live with their incarcerated mothers.

it's good to know gov't is doing something to improve the khmer people and citizens' welfare. i think cambodia help from the developing countries to help us put into place some kind of social services that assist disadvantage people like children, family, the disabled, etc, etc, so they can get proper nutrition, healthcare, housing, etc, etc, really! it's a good sign that official in gov't is now beginning to see it and do something about it, really! i give credit and applaud them for doing so, you know! if cambodia have social services agencies in the country, then people wouldn't have to beg so much for donation, for generosity, for hand out, etc, etc, you know! everyone can all help to make a real difference in cambodia for all, i believe. god bless all.

12:34 AM,

You are comparatively young and cetainly very naive about these suckers in Cambodia. They will never be like those who live in America where you are!

All they know is how to talk and do nothing for the poor. As long as these idiots remain in power you can keep calling upon your God to bless Cambodia and nothing much will happen!

If you want Cambodia to be blessed, you and certainly you will have to come to Cambodia and start some kind of education to help change the mentality of the people here before any thing concrete can happen!

Asking God to bless Cambodia in this comment section of KI Media amounts equivalently to nothing as far as changes in Cambodia are concerned!
