Cambodia firm over temple dispute

An adviser to the Cambodian government says there will be no further negotiations with Thailand over withdrawing troops from around the disputed Preah Vihear Temple.

On Monday, the International Court of Justice in the Hague ordered troops from both sides to pull back from the border area.

The area has been the site of several fatal clashes since late 2008.

But Thailand's outgoing Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says bilateral negotiations will need to take place before Thai troops an be moved.

However Helen Jarvis, an adviser to the Cambodian Government, has told Radio Australia's Connect Asia negotiations are unnecessary

"From the Cambodian side there's no need for any more negotiations," she said.

"The decision is clear, the demilitarised zone is very clearly marked on the map and as soon as the Indonesian observors arrive there's no reason why the withdrawal can't immediately take place"

Abhisit Vejjajiva, the trouble maker will gone forever. From now on, the next Thais government can follow ICJ order to save their face by withrawing troop on Cambodia territory.

Great, we Khmer don't dance after them. The decision is clear, if Thai does not want to follow the ICJ, it is their own problem.

In the end the good will win! God knows every move you make, so fear no one but God, UN and all other political leaders are moving into the right direction and that is to help the poor and vulnerable people...this is a sign of the end.
once we accept one another just the way they are, that is it! God's work win...

I thought Jarvis was a former advisor to the government, as quoted in previous articles on Ki-Media. She was involved in the ECCC as a Media liaison, and then the Victims Unit, now she is a government advisor again?

This womans role in Khmer politics is dubious at best. Previous articles have mentioned she is good friends with Sok An & Hun Sen, and that she is a member of the Australian communist party when in 2006 she wrote "the ends justify the means"

This barang is not in Cambodia to help khmer people, shes here to appear to do so, but really to help the CPP

if siem thugs don't want follow icj's lawful order, that's their problem and icj will see to it, i'm sure! it will further strengthen khmer side on the law further and further, no doubt! god bless cambodia.

cambodia should use this as a go- ahead to do with our side of the border with our own dicision, etc without siem thugs' interference, i'm sure! siem can play their dirty game by themselves, i'm sure! but don't expect cambodia to cooperate or play along with siem thugs, ok!
