Accoding to my observation, all the Khmer TVs and newspapers well promote fair/white skinned over the darked skinned khmer, knowlingly or otherwise. Recently when I was Cambodia, in just 20 minutes of my watching various khmer entertainment programs on the local tvs, i heard six times whereby players/performers would say or imply that "fair skinned" is better than the dark one. For an example, in a comedy show where a white/yellow skinned man pretended to be a beggar begging a woman for money. In scolding him for being a beggar, she said, sach chheam sar anh cheong, mok sum tean ke/ with such white flesh and skinn as you are, you are a beggar?!", I myself sometimes in my own country encountered this non-sensical discrimination. Such as one day, I was in the Phar thom market, some older fair skined "khmer" ladies said to me "ïf your skin is fairer, you would look more handsome". I usually do not let them get away that easily.

You know what, I can't win. I am Khmer of a Chinese descent with fair skin. Let me just say it. I am proud to be called Khmer not Chinese or Youn.
