People's Daily Online

Two out of five hydroelectric dams being constructed in Cambodia by Chinese investors will begin to supply electricity from the end of this year onward, said Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday.

The two dams are the 193 megawatt Kamchay hydroelectric dam in Kampot province, some 150 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh and the Kirirom III hydropower dam with the capacity of 18 megawatts, the premier said during a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a China-funded Takhmao Bridge across Tonle Bassac river in Kandal province.

“The two dams will be put into operations by the end of this year,” he said, adding that they are invested by Chinese investors with the support from the government of China.

“When they come online, there will be no concern of electricity shortage in Phnom Penh,” he said.

Cambodia’s economy has rapidly developed since 2005 and the shortage of electricity has been posing a concern for investors.

With the operations of the two dams by the end of this year, it is expected that the cost of power in this country will be lower.

According to the report from the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Energy, five hydroelectric dams with a total capacity of 915 megawatts have been constructing in Cambodia by Chinese investors with the total investments of 1.6 billion U.S. dollars.

The other three dams being constructed are Tatay river hydropower dam with the capacity of 246 megawatts, Atay hydropower dam of 120 megawatts and Russei Chrum Krom with the capacity of 338 megawatts.

keep in mind cambodia changes and grows both economically and in population as well, so with that in mind, of course, cambodia will have to look for way to feed the consumers and provide electricity, etc, it's should be about having choices in life in cambodia, you know! cambodia should look to the western countries for concept and example on the rising the standard of living, i think! no more lacking in cambodia, ok! you are only a poor country if you choose to remain poor, think about it, ok! and definitely look around the world to see how they do it, so can cambodia, ok! yes, travel the world and the seven seas and learn and bring back the knowledge to cambodia by talking about it and improving way of life in cambodia, ok! everyone can do this!

This kind of story will be the positive light when people look back at the country's leadership history...

a good leader is one that make many reforms in the country and one that brings good, positive changes for the people in the country, etc, you know! yes, it will reflect in them when we look backward into the past like history!

forget the leader that did nothing for the country, the leader that only want to divide the country, the leader that only want to fight everyday, etc, foreget them! that leader is what we called ineffective or weak leader, and there are plenty of them out there roaming around aimlessly, you know! make sure to not vote for them, though because they do not have a national agenda! also, vote for leader(s) that talk about team work, team afford, etc, but if a leader only talk about his own achievement, then you know they are too self-ambitious, not good!

the way i see it, cambodian society works better when we have an effective, good leader! we are a society that tend to follow the leader, so we need to have a good, educated leader(s), etc! think in terms of team work or team effort, not individual effort, ok!

Two [DAMNED]??? It sounds that the commentator is not happy at all! Are you talking about the opposition, or your self, or about hydro-power? It is so sad that the opposition representative here doesn't want the development! They do not want Cambodia to develop, or they just want Cambodia to keep buying electrical power from Vietnam or Thailand, their masters? Otherwise, we can say that they just want to destroy the reputation of the opposition! Or the commentator is simply a pure, naked imbecile critic, period!

If the leader is good, people praise
him;in contrast,if he is evil man,
they condemn and curse him.
See what some people saw,but some
of them didn't see, they quarrel them. Some people are blind hearts,
blind heads,and others blind eyes.
Socheata saw two dams,but others
could see them.Maybe,these dams
destroyed Khmer people properties
and people lives.
It is Socheata rights and blogger
rights.

Socheata, your stupidity doesn’t help the opposition at all! In contrary, you make people think that you do not want any development at all. Please do something else than making nonsense comments with your postings. Do you want Cambodians pays 1$ for 1 kw/h of electricity power instead 0.15 cents? Do you want to go back to Year Zero? Do you want our countrymen live like in the Middle Age, a backward society? Who that Socheata jungle individual? Very dumb, actually the dumbest I’ve ever heard of.
