Op-Ed by A bewildered citizen in the Kingdom of Wonder(?)
When I saw the news on the Phnom Penh Post this morning again about the official plan for the construction of a 555-meter on Diamond Island, I was thinking to myself “Thank Lucifer, we haven’t given up that idea yet!”
I must say I admire the wisdom of those geniuses who have come up with this construction plan. Really! Because now I feel like I can yell out to the World that:
“Stop telling us that Cambodia is among the poorest countries! Stop telling us one-third of the country’s population lives below poverty line! And that 80% of the country’s population don’t have access to electricity! And that our public health care and educational services suck! And that our industries are underdeveloped compared to the rest of the region! And basically anything you’ve accused us of: deforestation, land grabbing, human rights abuses, corrupt judicial system etc. – please just stop! Because now, unlike you losers, we will have the tallest building in Southeast Asia, and the second tallest in the world!”
Who cares if many of the tall buildings in Phnom Penh are still unoccupied, or whether the “555” building would generate economic development? The important thing is, we will live up to Pol Pot’s famous saying, “If the Khmers could build Angkor, they could do anything!” – Only this time, we’ll probably just give the contracts to Chinese companies… but who haven’t ?

One of KI-Media member who has his name in Facebook as Khmer Sovannaphumi but his real name is Pang Sokhoeun, former political asylum and now living in Sweden. He always copies news from here to post in his facebook profile to promote himself, but right now, he tries to remove and blocked anyone who dares to reveal his con activity particular he tries to hide what he has cheated his wife (Sreypov Chea) by having a girlfriend (Sokunthear Sam) behind his wife back. Now, his girlfriend had run way from him after she knew his cheating.
A con man Pang Sokhoeun as well as KI-Media like to insult to the government officers who have affairs, but himself does even worse than other people. What ashame!

When one person had posted in KI-Media and accused that a con man Pang Sokhoeun is a brother of Som Ek (former Chief of Tiger's head sign guerilla, who was arrested and put in prison by Cambodian government) during that time, a cheater Pang Sokhoeun came to deny in his blogs immediately and had pointed the blame to Mr. Sourn Serey Rotha, but this time, he has bury his head in the sand because he cannot deny the truth that he has cheated his wife. Right now, all he can do is removed and blocked anyone who dared to reveal his cheating.
I know for sure that Hun Sen can build a 555-story high building, but that skyscraper is built out of bamboo.
What a joke!
Hun Sen is truly a stupid dog. This dog has no idea how complicate it is to build a skyscraper nor its cost or the safety of its surroundings.

It will be a laughing matter. Cambodians can build but can they maintain??? This is seem to be the very part that Cambodia lacking most of the time if not all the time... and do we need it now???

You all can criticize Hun Sen for trying to build the tallest building in Southeast Asia. It's fair. However, I think it's even fairer to criticize and laugh at King Jayavaraman VII and other ancient kings for using all resources and labor to build so many temples as well. What did they build these temples for? I don't think you need so many temples for worship right? Yet, I still don't hear many people blaming these temples for the downfall of our Khmer empire? Yes we don't need such tall building, but don't tell me that the majority of people walking on the street in Cambodia don't feel proud to have this building in their country. After all the past surveys by NGO showed that CPP received most support from Cambodian, and these same people believe that Cambodia is heading to the right direction. Again, you preach for democracy, but it's only democracy to you if you get everything your way.

Your comment is fair about the fact that no one seems to criticize Jayavarman VII. The difference is Jayavarman VII was presiding over the Khmer Empire (not that I glorify it without seeing the human rights abuse at the time), while Cambodia is still one of the poorest countries in the world, with foreign aid making up much of the national budget. Sure, who doesn't feel the pride to have such a tall building, but not when our neighbors and the rest of the world laugh at us.
shut up, all cynics or skeptics out there, ok! we want cambodia to build skyscrapers and more modern infratructure, ok! like it or not, get used to it, ok! cambodia don't have to please you all the time, ok! of course,a there are more to cambodia than you whiners and jealous people out there, ok! so, shut your holes and forever hold your peace, ok!
I've been reading to KI feed for quite sometime now and i found that KI is bias against the gov. and Cambodia!
