Taboo topics for senior thesis in the Banana Kingdom's School of Law

The School of Law in the Kingdom of Extraordinary Wonder (KEW) issued a directive to senior undergraduate students forbidding them to write their final thesis on the taboo subjects listed below. It appears that these taboo topics have something to do with the current social unrest in Cambodia. One topic that is a banned taboo in Cambodia is the Cambodian Red Cross led by Bun Rany Hun Xen, the wife of Hun Xen, which refused to provide humanitarian help to people who are evicted by force by Bun Rany’s husband’s regime. Now you know why the KEW is nothing more than a Banana Kingdom!

The research department is informing 4th year students in the School of Law and Economic Science for school year 2011-2012 who must write their thesis that the following topics are not allowed:
- Drug problem in society
- The organization and the working of the Cambodian Red Cross [led by Bun Rany Hun Xen]
- The goal and the legal resolution of land dispute resolutions in Cambodia
- The resolution of land disputes by the authority in Cambodia
- The advantages of the stock market in Cambodia
- Prevention and resolution of work dispute in Cambodia
- Commercial and work dispute arbitrations in Cambodia
- The regularization of the stock market
- The publication of public stocks
- The evolution of the publication on the public sale of stocks by public companies in Cambodia
- Publicly traded companies
- First time printing and sale of publicly-owned stocks
- Registration of commercial companies
- Publication of information that could influence stocks.

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The United States'Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Barack Obama will visit Cambodia in July and November respectively to attend summits as Cambodia chairs ASEAN this year, senior officials said on Monday.
"Our Secretary of State will be here in July as well as our President will be in November," Joseph Y. Yun, deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the U. S. Department of State, told reporters after a meeting with Ouch Borith, secretary of state for Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said that the meeting is to inform Cambodia about the upcoming U.S. leaders' visits and to discuss how to build U.S.- Cambodia relationship in 2012 through these high-level visits.

Kandal Provincial Court has summonsed opposition Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Chan Cheng and lawyer Choung Choungy to appear for questioning, but has not given them a date to appear because it is a “secret”.
Chan Cheng, who has had his parliamentary immunity stripped by the National Assembly, and lawyer Choung Choungy are charged with aiding and abetting the prison break of fellow SRP member Meas Peng in September.
“I have already sent the summons [on Tuesday],” Judge Sin Virak, who has been assigned to investigate the case, told the Post, but said there was no specific date for the questioning. “This is a secret case and I cannot tell.”
Choung Choungy said he had still not received the summons yesterday, but would face the “abusive” charges against him, which stem from another seemingly faulty execution of court duties by a Kandal Provincial Court judge.

The military uniform that cost Australian-Cambodian returnee Tim Kimsuth two years of his life and US$500 cost him a mere $30 at the Teuk Thla Market, in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district.
Tim Kimsuth had purchased Royal Cambodian Armed Forces two-star general shoulder pads and a military uniform he had embroidered with his name at the Teuk Thla Market because he “liked the uniform”.
“I had worn it in my room only and was not aware that wearing military uniforms and ranks is illegal,” Tim Kimsuth told the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday at this sentencing.
Tim Kimsuth, who spent 20 years in Australia and has only recently returned to Cambodia, had reason to be confused.

The reason for the charge was because the tribunal based its claim on the fact that Sourn Serey Ratha conducted his propaganda against the royal government of Cambodia in the name of the Khmer People Power Movement which was broadcasted on the KI-Media website.
Now, since KI-Media is also broadcasting the following speech of Mr. Hun Xen who is promoting violence against Khmer journalists (an anti-Khmer action), would the tribunal charge Mr. Hun Xen also?

When I saw the news on the Phnom Penh Post this morning again about the official plan for the construction of a 555-meter on Diamond Island, I was thinking to myself “Thank Lucifer, we haven’t given up that idea yet!”
I must say I admire the wisdom of those geniuses who have come up with this construction plan. Really! Because now I feel like I can yell out to the World that:
“Stop telling us that Cambodia is among the poorest countries! Stop telling us one-third of the country’s population lives below poverty line! And that 80% of the country’s population don’t have access to electricity! And that our public health care and educational services suck! And that our industries are underdeveloped compared to the rest of the region! And basically anything you’ve accused us of: deforestation, land grabbing, human rights abuses, corrupt judicial system etc. – please just stop! Because now, unlike you losers, we will have the tallest building in Southeast Asia, and the second tallest in the world!”
Who cares if many of the tall buildings in Phnom Penh are still unoccupied, or whether the “555” building would generate economic development? The important thing is, we will live up to Pol Pot’s famous saying, “If the Khmers could build Angkor, they could do anything!” – Only this time, we’ll probably just give the contracts to Chinese companies… but who haven’t ?
