Who is Mr. Son Chhay? That's is an excellent question and many would tell you that the answer depends on your political view.
For me, Mr. Son Chhay is an unfit contender for Mr. Rainsy's job. Without a doubt, he has done some commendable works for Srok Khmer and Khmer people. However, with his unwise and critical stance or view of China-Tibet issue, he has done more harm than good to SRP party.
So the real question is not who Mr. Son Chhay is, but what he represents? When it comes to building key international support which is crucial for the party to move to the nerxt level, can SRP afford to have a senior member in its rank behaved irresponsibly as Mr. Son Chhay?

The decision of Mr. Son Chhay to publicly support Tibet is not his alone, but for sure that of the SRP as well.
This foreign policy of the SRP is not only unwise and very dangerous, but also impractical, considering the economic and military influences China has in the region and the world.
China is not only the emerging power in the world economically and militarily, but also the most powerful country in SE Asia.
This big brother cannot be ignored or made upset!
The fact that your opponent is a good friend of China does not mean that you should be China's enemy.
Historically speaking, China has demonstrated her flexibility and practicality by abandoning the radical KR group in favor of Prime Minister Hun Sen and his government. This shows clearly China's shrewd foreign policy.
Like it or not, PM Hun Sen has shown his political ingenuity by staying very close to China to counter and minimize Vietnamese influence and at the same time preventing other comrades in the CPP from usurping his power.
Moving Cambodia closer into Chinese sphere also allows him to ignore to some extent pressures exerted by western countries for any reforms he sees as dangerous to his power base.

11:46 pm, I am not 11:22pm but would like to comment that every time when someone has a constructive comment against SRP's. Immediately, they are branded as "Vietcong, Youn, CPP spy... etc" or sworn at. The advice I can give you is you need to counter comment what 11:22pm was saying in a constructive manner. "Are you a Vietcong?" will get you nowhere. I can ask you too. Are you a dump arse? Because what you are saying is beside the point and it is the weakest reflection of the SRP. Better comment in this case is to be quiet (because they could be part true or seems logical .... and you don't have anything to say ). It would not damage SRP as much as reflected in your weakest comment.
Politics is the art of persuasion at all cost but "are you Vietcong" is not the weakest persuasion!
It's good to be a politician of Cambodia like Soy tee Son Chhay.He can take world tour at the expense of supporters while he supports the ruling party via back door.

A person of such character would probably puts his political opponent in jail or even kill that person because he has a courage to express his opinion.

If he wants to be known then let Hun Sen know that there needs to be a Miss.Cambodia contest so the winner can compete in Miss.Universe!
From reading all the comments above, I am happy that we can debate this geopolitics topic seriously among ourselves, and be sure we understand that politic games have no right or wrong answers, because the winner and loser move his chess in hoping to win according to his opponent's strategy.
However, there are only TWO: one winner and one loser.
For my opinion, I see only this road for the moment that Rainsy has to play the US's game while Hun Sen plays China's game.
Look onto the past, King Sihanouk abandoned the US and went on with China, and the US recruited Lon Nol to push King Sihanouk out from power, we lose more than a million lives. There were many reasons why King Sihanouk went to sleep with China. Did he fear of being used as a pawn between the Capitalist and Communist? Every leader took a chance and thought to save his nation.
All Cambodian leaders have carried a great burden since the fall of the empire. The enemies on both sides: Siem and Annamese refused to let Khmers to become stable, and it was the only reason for them to destroy Khmers' souls to survive.
All we could do to survive to do our utmost for Cambodia and for our Khmers.
We, as the spectators can only analyze and/or condemn the politicians whose lives are put to LIVE or to DIE among ourselves.
Should we still walk on the same path? What choice does Rainsy have? The only big difference is that Rainsy is not Lon Nol who was in power, he is just an opponent like his Father, Sam Sary.
Please understand why the US abandoned Lon Nol regime so fast? Do not forget one important person, the most powerful man behind Lon Nol was his young brother Lon Non who did all the coup and the assassination attempts on many opponents and killed thousand of the Vietnamese. If Prince Sirimatak did not interfere Lon Non would kill even more. Lon Non had his own death squad, he terrorized the whole Kingdom.
Lon Non, the young brother of Lon Nol described by the US in the secret documents as the most powerful and the most ruthless in the regimes. The US spoke openly that Lon Nol was an incompetent and defective leader and he was a dumb leader, who had no power but his young brother.
President Nixon mocked Lon Nol "Who is he? His name still the same even spelling backward".
The ruthless Lon Non thought that his best friend Pol Pot (Saloth Sar) would spare his life so he chose to stay forgetting that the Vietnamese spies were all over in Cambodia even with Pol Pot knew his action. When Pol Pot won, Lon Non was executed.
Keep in mind that all routes, the Vietnamese have their own strategies, they play with both sides to survive.
Furthermore, the Vietnamese have always been secretly presence inside Khmer politics since an ancient time 1600's to make sure Khmers cannot get out from their traps. We don't know who is who the Viet spy, because they are always among us.
GOD gives us a WILL to choose our paths.
We must fight to the last drop of blood to survive.

Nobody cares about Cambodia anymore since its culture, beauty and country is unknown to the rest of the world. Thailand has absorbed all of Khmer culture and presented it at Miss.Universe and does a good job at promoting Thai culture, country and beauty. While us lame Khmer's just sit on our lazy ass and rot and soon become extinct and no one would care if Thai and viet invaded all of Cambodia and they would be like Cambodia who? Either Cambodia joins Miss.Universe and be known or become extinct forever. Our Khmer ancestors must be ashamed and embarrassed at us lame Khmer's descendent by not doing a damn thing to promote our Khmer culture and evolve it. No wonder Thai culture, Thai food and anything Thai is popular due to Khmer's being so lame at everything!!!

Your comment are base on research and knowledge.I agree with you that the true nature/history that how a Khmer Rouge Regime was created .Up till now,we still ruled/ under by the ex-khmer Rouge leaders just did not show the extreme evil .It's a modern Khmer Rouge.Our king chose to side with the Vietnam instead of the USA during the vietnam war.The result and the consequent were disaster.Wrong choice and the Vietnam are not loyal to Cambodia either .
Will SRP launch its own AM, FM radio broadcast soon?
And also SRP's own AM, FM radio broadcast by satelite which can be broadcasted from any where in time of need.
