A talk between Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen would likely make way for a General Border Committee (GBC) meeting which has long been stalled, Defence Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa said on Wednesday.

The newly-appointed defence minister said he would give priority to solving the Thai-Cambodian border problem, adding that he would next week make an inspection trip to the border in Si Sa Ket province.

"I would like the army chief (Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha) to know that I will next week make a private trip to visit the three southern border provinces.

"After that I will go to Si Sa Ket in the Army Region 2 to see the Thai-Cambodian border situation at Preah Vihear temple to get first-hand information so that I can discuss the matter with commanders of the armed forces.

"My priority is to solve the border problem," Gen Yutthasak said.

Gen Yutthasak said since Hun Sen had appeared on good terms with Ms Yingluck, he would like the two to meet so that the Cambodian prime minister would give the green light for Gen Tea Banh, the Cambodian defence minister, to agree to holding a GBC meeting.

"Without holding a GBC meeting, we would not be able to talk over withdrawing troops (from the designated provisional demilitarised zone) and allowing the Indonesian observers into the area," he said.

"We have to abide by the International Court of Justice's ruling. However, we have to make sure that both sides are in a win-win situation. To be in a win-win situation, we have to be friends," he added.

Once Hun Sen gives the green light, he would invite Gen Tea Banh for dinner in Bangkok and after that he would go to visit him in return, Gen Yutthasak said.

"I and Gen Tea Banh are old friends. We frequently met in several meetings abroad when I was permanent secretary for defence and deputy defence minister.

"Gen Tea Banh also wants to come to Bangkok, but Hun Sen must first give him the permission," he said.

An army source said Lt-Gen Tawatchai Samutsakhon, the 2nd Army commander, will host a Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting on Aug 23-24 at the 2nd Army headquarters in Nakhon Ratchasima to discuss about the withdrawal of troops.

The meeting results could be used by the defence minister when he goes for the GBC meeting to be hosted by Cambodia, the source said.

talks between the two countries should always be based on the mutual respect of the international law, etc. i think the real issue with thailand is their using of unilateral map that's not the same as the internationally recognized map of cambodia, etc. if you look at thailand's unilateral map and the internationally recognized map or official map of cambodia, they are two different maps. that's what the two should bring up during the talks. we have to respect the international law, map, etc, like it or not, it's the law, you know! otherwise, they will talk apple and orange again, two different things, you know! how can we be on the same page of idea, talk, etc? we, first and foremost, respect the international law, period! problem started when we deviate from the international law or the rule of law that keep our countries civilized, etc, you know!

KI Media is a place to learn:
read,write,and express ideas,
some blogger interrupted,
disturbed,and annoyed.
Few blogger keep posting the
same blogs in every articles
and titles.
In KI Media has good comments and
bad comments,but not to post
the same comments all the times.
I try to tolerate,be patient,
understand,ignore,and calm down,
but now I can't control my feeling.

Hi Everyone,

One of KI-Media member who has his name in Facebook as Khmer Sovannaphumi but his real name is Pang Sokhoeun, former political asylum and now living in Sweden. He always copies news from here to post in his facebook profile to promote himself, but right now, he tries to removed and blocked anyone who dares to reveal his con activity particular he tries to hide what he has cheated his wife (Sreypov Chea) by having a girlfriend (Sokunthear Sam) behind his wife back. Now, his girlfriend had ran way from him after she knew his cheating.

A con man Pang Sokhoeun as well as KI-Media like to insult to the government officers who have affairs, but himself does even worse than other people. What a shame!

It was a wake called for Cambodian Govt for not updating our military. I blamed our leaders for careless on our defense, they alway think everything will solve by mouth in 21st century? I knew we do need high education/economy on all cambodian throughout cambodia, but Military Strengthen must be as Well...If we don't do something about our military, there's will be another invasion from these two neighbours in the future...They just wait for oppt. to strike us!
