Cambodia, Britain see better economic ties: Cambodian Deputy PM

PHNOM PENH, September 13 (Xinhua) -- The economic and trade relations between Cambodia and the United Kingdom have seen a significant increase in recent years, said Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon, Minister of Finance, on Tuesday.

According to the figure of the Council of the Development of Cambodia, during the first seven months of this year, the Council has approved British investment projects in Cambodia worth up to 2. 2 billion U.S. dollars.

On the trade side, the two countries' trade volume was 247.2 million U.S. dollars in the first half of this year, 55 percent rise, compared to the same period last year, according to the figures from the British Embassy in Phnom Penh.

"These increases reflect growing relations and cooperation between the two governments," he said during a meeting with the outgoing British Ambassador to Cambodia Andrew Stephen Mace.

The minister continued to say that besides trade and investment, the UK has provided the total grant aid of about 290 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia from 1992 to 2011 for the development on health, good governance and human rights.

Also, the Britain pledged another 20 million U.S. dollars in aid to Cambodia for 2012-2013 development plan.

Meanwhile, Andrew Stephen Mace pledged to encourage more British investors to do businesses in Cambodia when he returns home.

What 2.2 billion U.S. dollars for? Can someone tell more about this important investment? Very good for Cambodia if more Britists invest here in the our country.

Certainly SRP is not happy that Britists make that big investment in Cambodia. Please understand that they want Cambodia to develop and stand up on its own feet instead of depending on aids from donors.

Oh yes! The billion dollars investment from the Korean, the Chinese, the Russian, and now from the Brit!

For more than 30 years Cambodia have all kind of investments to make Cambodia strong or rich enough to stand on its own two feet! But you know according to statistic Cambodia is the most dirt poor country in Southeast Asia with high infant mortality rate, most dirt poor people live off $1 dollar a day, and the most corrupted and oppressed on individual Cambodian people! Dirt poor Cambodian people are forced and risking their life just find job in Thailame, Korea,...?

It seems that the more investments Cambodia has and the poorer Cambodian people become! It is defying all logic that more investments suppose to make Cambodian people prosper!

Can somebody tell me what happen to the Korean billion dollars investment in Cambodia to create Camko City? ahahhahah

Not all investment is good for Cambodia and maybe good for corrupted individual in power but not for the country and the people as a whole!

By the way investment is a form of stealing….the stealing is done right before your very eye and yet you can't see it! This is where the number come in handy…Just do the number and the number will not lie to you!
