“The results of the new experts is that she cannot stand trial.”
Medical specialists at the UN-backed Khmer Rouge tribunal have found a chief suspect at the court unfit to stand trial, sources close to the court said Tuesday.
After examinations, the medical specialists have determined that Ieng Thirith, the former social affairs minister of the regime, lacks the mental capacity to remember what took place when the regime was in power, two sources close to the court said.
“The results of the new experts is that she cannot stand trial,” one source said, on condition of anonymity.
The findings echo those of John Campbell, a geriatrician who told the court in a hearing earlier this month that Ieng Thirith, who if 79, is not mentally fit to stand trial. During the hearing, he suggested the court retain other specialists to determine her mental health.
The specialists had ended their examination and “found the same result as Dr. Campbell,” the source said.
Phat Pouv Seang, a defense attorney for Ieng Thirith, confirmed Tuesday the mental examinations were complete but said an official report must now be sent to the Trial Chamber for review.
Tribunal spokesman Neth Pheaktra said Tuesday the medical teams were “continuing their work” for at least two more weeks.
Ieng Thirith stands accused of atrocity crimes including genocide alongside former leaders Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan and her husband, Ieng Sary. The court is expected to begin that trial in earnest next year.

Come one and come out to face the reality and make history. Sooner or later you would gone away anyway and why not confess to your khmer people to What Went Wrong to Pol Pot regime.
After I researched so many years about Indochina Federation formed by late Ho Chi Minh I have posted so many time on this KI-Media blog that: This ECCC will end up with so many obstacle from CPP and disappointment of majority of Cambodian victiom.
So if we look at part of our real Khmer history and Indochina Federation you will see as follow: 1.Who formed Khmer Issarak, Khmer Viet Minh ( Khmer Issarak led by Achar Mean or Son Ngoc Minh ). 2. Why Khmer Viet Minh like Heng Samrin, Chea Sim and many more became Khmer Rouge between 1975-1979 and then became CPP. So it all about Indochina Federation to put Cambodia as they already put Laos into yuon yoke. So ECCC and all the prisons in Cambodia controll by Hanoi especially ECCC is Hanoi ECCC.

Let me share my view wiht you as a Khemr.
If we look at the recent years for what Hun Sen has done to block the ECCC court process as follow:
1. The court is not independent.
2. Political interferences from Hun Sen and CPP.
3. Widespread of corruption in ECCC.
4. If more indictment Hun Sen rather closed the ECCC .
Above are some of dirty tricks Hun Sen and CPP used to block the court proces or in other word not to allow the detainees speaking out.
So, she is sick. Is that just an act to avoid being questioned?
