Opposition lawmakers fear non-Cambodians are registering to vote

Three SRP politicians yesterday stonewalled a conference on voter registration results organised by the Committee for Free and Fair Elections (Comfrel), complaining that Vietnamese citizens had been allowed to register to vote.

The alleged enrolment of Vietnamese citizens showed there was “no effectiveness in the working [of the NEC]” the SRP’s Kuoy Bunroeun said.

Announced voter registration numbers were more than 192 per cent above the prediction of the National Election Committee for the 2012 commune-district elections.

“The NEC’s estimate is completely wrong,” Kuoy Bunroeun said.

“This shows 100 per cent that there is no true mechanism to ensure the effectiveness of the process of free and fair elections.”

The SRP’s concern was that non-Cambodian citizens were being allowed to register to vote, Comfrel president Koul Panha clarified.

“But Comfrel has found that the ethnic Vietnamese who registered to vote have all the necessary citizenship papers,” Koul Panha told the Post.

“It is always a big controversy whenever there is an election, but you cannot do anything about it because they [the ethnic Vietnamese] have documents signed by the authorities saying that they are Cambodian citizens.

Koul Panha echoed concerns that the registered number of voters was so far off the NEC’s prediction.

“The number is surprisingly high if you consider all the flooding and natural disaster that has swept the country,” he said.

“We think it may be the case that some voters have registered at two places because people have migrated and there is no current system . . . to delete the duplicate names.”

NEC secretary-general Tep Nitha conceded the registration number was high and there was probably a fair degree of doubling-up by voters.

“The number of registrations is on the rise, but when we total the lists of overlapping names, we still expect the numbers to be increased maybe 103 to 105 per cent on the prediction. We cannot avoid small problems happening.”

Same old crap. If these Viets are given Khmer citizenship and they're eligible to vote, then I don't see a reason to fuss about.

if you ask any khmer people, the issue with the vietnamese is that they are unwanted in cambodia and cannot be trusted. i think there was a reason for that, and we're talking just about foreigners like the vietnamese or youn and to some extent the thai or siem as well. they are simply unwanted in cambodia by khmer people. well, if you know anything about khmer history, the youn or vietnamese came from the china, i think they were once a tribe of china as china had a lot of ethnic tribes in china, and vietnamese or youn moved down south and eventually settled in khmer territories or khmer lands as khmer people called it. khmer people and cambodia cannot forget koh tral and khmer krom lands, so why was the reason khmer people can never trust youn or vietnamese to vote and live in cambodia. the only way for khmer to trust youn is for youn to adopt khmer language, culture and way of life, etc, however if youns keep on using youn language and culture, etc, forget it, khmer don't want them in cambodia and vote in cambodia, etc, you know! that's the real reason why! and we're talking specifically about youn here because i can tell you khmer people can trust and want all other foreigners, legal foreigners in our country, but not really youns and to some extent siem as well. simply, these two neighbors are the historical enemies of the khmer people, and they had a history of stealing and invading khmer lands and take or claim or stake out khmer lands and islands and seas territories, etc. that's why cambodia as a country and khmer people do not trust or want these people living and voting in our country of cambodia, you see! you understand? so, i don't blame khmer people for having a negative view on youns and to some extent siem as well, really! all other foreigners we like and we welcome them, but not youn and and siem, you know! so if you are not youn and siem, then don't worry, khmer people will always welcome and want you, especially americans, europeans, japanese, chinese, koreans, etc. no youn and siem, that's all! well, mostly youn i'm talking about here, anyway...

Poster 10:40 PM like to repeat herself. Just like her wording such as; Really! Ok! Etc...etc!
Her above post is nothing but a few sentence, worded differently. Short of like a kids writing.
I wonder how old she is? Is she bipolar? Hmmmm!

Yea, i think Miss Nyugen is bipolar. She goes on and on, like a repeat button then changes the subject to somethign else, then goes back to contradict herself with useless words such as ok, really, noone understand her. Cant blame her for her fucked up life and beliefs. Im guessing her mental age about 15, doesnt understand a thing about politics but likes getting attention.
