Cambodian PM's 2nd son appointed as deputy chief of military intelligence unit

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Hun Manit, the second eldest son of Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen, was promoted from the military rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel and appointed as the deputy chief of the Defense Ministry's intelligence department on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gen. Chea Dara, deputy commander-in-chief of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) in charge of Preah Vihear Direction, was appointed as the chief of the Defense Ministry's intelligence department replacing the recent deceased Gen. Mol Roeup.

There were also the appointments of Maj. Gen. Siek Socheat, deputy commander of the front-battle region 3, as the chief of the RCAF's border affairs office instead of Maj. Gen. Sok Pheap, who took a new position as the undersecretary of state of the Defense Ministry.

Speaking during the appointment ceremony at the Headquarters of the RCAF, Gen. Pol Saroeun, the RCAF's commander-in-chief, said that the appointments were made based on their merits and expertise in commanding military.

"The two institutions -- the military intelligence department and the border affairs office -- have achieved a lot of good results, especially relevant to the past military confrontation along the border line," he said.

Hun Manit, 30, was the second eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen. His first eldest son Hun Manet, 34, currently holds the military rank of a Major General and is the deputy commander of the Headquarter of Infantry, deputy commander of Prime Minister Hun Sen's Bodyguard Unit and the head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit.

Hun Sen has been preparing his children not only to take over when he is gone, but also to strengthen his grip on power in Cambodia. He is taking no chances even with the encouraged, persuaded or forced marriages that occurred among the children of his close allies. However, failure to hold on to power will always be a possibility in a land where greed, corruption and injustice are proceeding at an alarming rate.

Hun Sen's downfall will more likely come from within in the same manner as Sihanouk's since uprising or using forces against his government by the people is not foreseeable in the near or immediate future.

Hopefully the Cambodian soldiers and his bodyguards, though they receive money and benefits from him, learn to use their God-given brain in the end for their country, Cambodia to which they owe the loyalty and not Hun Sen.

This is how king and dynasty are made and we all know that. In the old time, Hun Sen would be already declaring himself a "king". He is the real king of Cambodia anyway.

"Eating too much and you belly shall explode!" is what I was told in Cambodian classes I attended while I was young.

It is certainly true and it is just a matter of time that his belly shall explode.

Pissed off
