Tourism flocked into Cambodia’s hot spots, Sinhanoukville and Angkor Wat last month compared to January last year.
According to Sinhanoukville Tourism Department deputy director Seng Kha local tourisms into the region grew 57.52 percent from 68,816 in January 2011 to 108,400 this year while international figures jumped 51 percent to 23,041, Tourism Cambodia reported.
Mr Kha contributed the rise to the ever-popular Chinese New Year combined with the region’s sear festivals and beaches.
Meanwhile International Airport director Hun Chhoeun explained that new routes were also playing a role in tourism growth, however, stressed reasonable fares could see more arrivals.
“Planes are full with only a few days where flights are not full,” he said.
“I think that if the airline companies make prices more affordable, the numbers would increase even more.”
Angkor Wat saw foreign arrivals jump 30 percent month-on-month to 206,000 arrivals in January this year compared to 159,000 during the same month 2011.

cambodia is really an attractive country fo tourism in many ways. thus, cambodia should focus more on upgrading and modernizing the country many infrastructure like expansion of airports, seaports, highways, railway system, waterway and water transportation, etc, etc... also focus on upgrading the service and hospitality industry up to the international standard like the rest of the world out there. yes, cambodia was sort of new to the tourist thing due to a long hiatus due to civil war, the KR atrocity, etc, but it's never too late to start improve the country tourism industry, etc, you know. continue to do so is smart and wise because tourism is one of the top money making way for the country and people because the jobs it creates, etc... god bless cambodia.
