in this classic khmer song, sin sisimouth listed all khmer islands on the coast of cambodia. interesting song! god bless cambodia.

in khmer language, we say the word "koh" in front of all our islands, e.g. koh mano, koh kong, koh tral, koh tang, koh ses, koh rong, etc, etc... the khmer word "koh" means island. so, in a way, we say island rong, island kong, island tang, etc... i just want to point that out to educate our foreign friends who are interested in learning a word or two of khmer language, that's all.

note, some old spelling of "koh" as "koah", but most khmer writers tend to stick with the more common one like "koh", although it is also spelled "koah" in khmer. yes, the reason is because khmer language, there is no official romanized spelling of our word into phonetic alphabets like in japan or the phillipines, etc... that's the reason why we often see so many western spelling of our khmer words into english pronunciation. my suggestion is to stick with the more common form of spelling like phnom penh, kratie, etc, although in khmer sound, it is not necessarily sounded the way it is spelled in western spelling, you see. anyway...i love teaching foreigners our our khmer language so they can understand khmer a little bit, at least. enjoy!
