Published: 10-Apr-12

His Majesty the King sets ablaze a sandalwood flower before laying it under the royal urn housing the remains of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda. [Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda was a third cousin of ex-King Sihanouk. She was a grand daughter of Chhum Abhaiwongs, the last Lord Governor of Battambang, and the daughter of Thai King Vajiravudh. Read "The Khmer-Thai Royal Family Tree" here].

Bangkok(ANN)-Thais nationwide, dressed in the mourning colours of black and white, bid their last goodbye to Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda - the only child of King Rama VI - in an inspiring royal cremation ceremony yesterday at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang and televised live through a TV pool.

Although it rained in the afternoon, mourners continued to wait in line to place fragrant sandalwood flowers at three pavilions in the north of the Sanam Luang. Fortysix Bangkok temples as well as other upcountry temples also held the sandalwood flower tribute simultaneously.

The royal cremation of Princess Bejaratana, which took place more than eight months after the princess passed away on July 27, 2011, began early yesterday at 7am. HRH Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn represented HM the King at the event.

Although the procession commenced around 9.30am, many people had camped along the procession's route from 5am to pay their respects to the late princess.

The royal urn with the late princess' remains was transferred to the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles (Phra Yannamas Sam Lamkhan) from the Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall in the Grand Palace. The first procession of honour was to the Royal Great Victory Carriage (Phra Maha Phichai Ratcharot), which was parked in front of Wat Phra Chetuphon (Wat Pho).

The second procession of honour with the royal urn borne on the Royal Great Victory Carriage progressed to the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang. The third procession of honour then conveyed the royal urn to the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles circling counterclockwise three times around the crematorium, before carrying the urn to the royal funeral pyre.

Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family attended the symbolic royal cremation at 5:30pm and then proceeded to the Royal Crematorium at 10pm for the actual royal cremation.

As part of this great event, the Culture Ministry presented various public performances in the evening on three openair stages, from 7pm yesterday until 6am on April 10, a total of 10 hours. The stage performances would stop during the actual royal cremation. The Khon traditional Thai drama of Nong Loy was presented in a special performance by the traditional offering in front of the crematorium.

The first stage near Phra Pinklao Bridge featured the Nhang Yai great shadow plays with the Khon traditional Thai drama about the Ramayana Epic.

The second stage near the Supreme Court featured the Phra Abhaimanee puppet show, a scene from a Sakuntala play written by King Rama VI called Sakuntala, and a traditional Lakhon Nok drama featuring the folk tale of Sangthong. The plays were performed by artists from Fine Arts Department's Office of the Music And Drama as well as from 12 colleges of dramatic arts nationwide and the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute.

The third stage in front of Thammasat University featured singing performances by the Chulalongkorn University Band, Public Relations Department Band as well as the chorus from the Santirat Institute of Business Administration.

The Grand Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha is closed today to make way for the ceremony of collecting the royal relics and ashes and procession to the Grand Palace. Tomorrow, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha will close from 1pm onwards to make way for the religious ceremony for the royal relics, while the temple will close on Thursday for the royal relics enshrining ceremony.

As the Cabinet had agreed, the Thai public wore mourning black and the state offices, enterprises and schools flew the national flag at halfmast until today.

The royal cremation ceremonial ground will be open from tomorrow until next Tuesday, for the public to admire the Thai traditional craftsmanship, arts and culture through the specially built crematorium and surrounding buildings, including the Royal MeritMaking Pavilion (Phra Thinang Songtham).

The public can learn about the Princess's life and works at the permanent exhibition at Sanam Chan Palace.

The only child of King Rama VI and HRH Princess Suvadhana, Royal Consort of King Rama VI, HRH Princess Bejaratana was born on 24 November 1925 at the Grand Palace. The King died one day after her birth.

In her early childhood, the princess attended Bangkok’s Rajini School until age 13. She then moved to England during World War II with her mother to further her education before moving back to Thailand in 1957. The princess was a gifted individual, particularly with numbers, being able to calculate promptly which day of the week dates would fall, indicated in a calendar covering 300,400 years.

She started her royal duties when her life became settled. Her main duties included continuing the legacy of her father in scouts activities for boys and girls, giving out scholarships and partaking in school activities, as well as being a patron of public social welfare, religion, and the military services. The Princess Bejaratana passed away on 27 July 2011 from a blood infection at the age of 85.

king Prajadhipok was uniterested in women. He was a homo King. This princess was conceived when Prajadhipok left Bangkok for England. Her real father no one knew for sure. Prajadhipok was booted out from the throne by 1932 revolt led by the socialist barrister Sino descendant Pridi Bhanomyung.

What????????????????????????????????????????

9:15 PM, Bejaratana was not a daughter of King Prajadipok, but a daughter of King Vajiravudh, the older brother of King Prajadipok. I think he died a few months after she was born.

So what? Even Sihanouk were the first cousin of the current Thai king, it does not mean shit.
Chhum Abhaiwongs was a traitor and warlord serving Thailand instead of Cambodia.

Suvadhana is indeed from a Mon-Khmer family. Her aunt is Nhim Busaba, she is a wife of Norodom.

if you read history about the aphaiwong family, the first was named ben, a khmer noble from takeo province. he became a traitor then moved to battambang province to work for the interest of siem who tried to take control of battambang province then. when french took control of cambodia, this abhaiwong family moved to present-day thailand province of srah keo, opposite of present-day cambodia's province of banteay meanchey. yes, the abhaiwong or aphaivong family were khmer traitor working for the interest of thailand then known as siem. nobody is surprised by this history, you know!

we all have one thing in common no matter what wealth, power or privilege we have as human, and that is when we die, we cannot take any physical or material wealth and power with us to the next dimension of life. non of us can live forever, really!

Khmer kings and Khmer people always
served Thai and Vietnam;didn't you
know that?
Yes,Khong abhaivong controlled
Battambang province.Some Khmer
people became Thai prime minister.
Almost Thai people are Khmer natives,
but they can not speak Khmer;they lost their own language and spirits.

Learn more Khmer empire.
How come Thai became a kingdom in
1238 AD? Why?
Khmer kings need pussies and be kings ;and Khmer leaders did the
same as kings.
Look at ah Hun Sen and others.

5:35am, i want to comment on what you brought up. i think if what you observed is true, it was the manpower that mattered more to old siem and viet country, etc..., meaning they don't care the people are khmer origin, what they cared more showed that they want to increase their population and manpower. it showed they have different thinking from khmer rulers of that time i.e., it was manpower that mattered more to them, not so much racism or national origin, etc... look at american history, historically, america was a land of migrants from all over the world. eventually, all these melting pots became american people with loyalty, allegience, pratiots, etc. someone's national origin is not too important, it's the manpower, the loyalty, the allegiance, the patriotism, etc that matter more to the making of the nation. i think cambodia leaders should learn to think differently and have a little paradigm shift when it comes to manpower, etc, instead of focusing more on being racist, discrimination, bias, prejudice, bashing of other race. instead, integrate and live by the rule of law that will turn migrants into khmer citizens, khmer people, khmer identity like khmer language and literacy, especially! wake up, khmer people, be smart and learn from the rest of the smart world out there, ok!

don't be stupid like the KR regime which was thinking of racism, instead of manpower of cambodia. wake up, cambodia!

it's interesting that the scholar can only trace the two royal families of cambodia and thailand up to the 1600s. what about beyond that, say to angkor great god-kings and god-queens from the khmer empire? maybe the long break of the dark ages make it difficult to trace the royal family tree beyond this point.

anyway, i'm not a bit surprised that royal families of both countries were related to many many different kinds of people from all backgrounds or from all walks of life, given in the royal families always had many many wives and concubines, etc that produced so many many children from the same father or mothers, etc. of course, we can conclude they were all related in some way; they all had 20 or 40 wives, and how many children from those wives? no matter is surprised, really!

sometimes, thinking outside of the box can help our country prosperous and develop and advance, etc, you know. of course, there are more to cambodia than you and i, really!

from the picture, siem has many influences from cambodia like the funeral possession and from britain the uniform they wear with that bushy thing looks on their heads. both strong influences from cambodia and britain in siem's culture, you know!

Ah Abhaiwongs is a traitor to Khmer race! This mother fucker was the so called Lord Governor Battambong and he spent most of his time and living in Thailand and yet this mother fucker still doing his farming in Cambodia to feed his family in Thailand as if somehow Thailand doesn't have enough land to do his farming! I will be the first person in Cambodia to declare that I am very glad and happy that the last kind of his kind is gone from Cambodia and Thailand!

I want to commend those Khmer-Thai who are loyal to their motherland. I may not know their name but I know their good deed and royalty to the motherland!

you know, the stupid KR regime liked to kill people because they hated upper-class people from the past era. the KR regime were stupid, ignorant people with no justice system, etc... so they like to kill people, even their own people, of course! sam rainsy people never lived under the KR rule, so they have no idea how destructive racism, discrimation, prejudice, bias, ignorance, stupidity, etc does to people when the stupid, ignorant KR regime came into power in cambodia. they just killed and abused people all over cambodia. so, don't be like the stupid KR regime again, ok!

What is so big deal about these royals?

1)Thai royal family today has only one person is a good royal and her name is Sirindhorn, Bhumibol's 3rd child, the rest are sick, and the sickest one is Bhumibol's 2nd child, the playboy infected with aid whose new wife is a porn star. The Video was circulating around the world and may be the Aliens passed it to another galaxies already. Her name is Srirasmi, and her naked body been seen by humans and spirits and animals../ and she will be queen of Thailand the land of whore. The 2nd sick one is Ubol, the divorced woman who lost tile HRH to become just pooying Ubol, but now she is everywhere and Thais bowed down to her feet everywhere she goes. The youngest child of Bhumibol, the retard princess who is a naughty ugly liar. Now back to Sirikit, the queen. She had an affair, then Bhumibol ordered to kill her BF. Bhumibol restored his monarchy to be the same an absolute monarchy with his "lese majesty". Bhumibol had many woman and kids outside his marriage including Bosba, Sirikit's young sister who bored him a daughter, many more...

2) Khmer royal family, Sihanouk never seen to have a wedding to anyone of his all concubines, and all his children with those women were given titles HRH (only Khmer royal court but not royals around the world). He chose women who were his halves young aunts to be his many wives. His daughters Bopha Devi was a men's eater. His children are weird, oh at least Sihanouk has one son is gay instead of being a play boy like him.

The funny thing is Thailand will have a crazy playboy with aid to be King and queen a former porn star whereas Cambodia has a gay King who loves only one man. Give this gay King a credit that he is so faithful to his unlawful husband.

Btw: you know none of these 2 royals can beat my favorite King, Henry VIII. He chopped his wives' heads and got another wife.
