"About half the 156 accidents that took place during the long weekend were caused by speeding and about 13 percent by drunk driving."
At least 48 people died and 350 were injured in road accidents nationwide over the New Year, officials said Tuesday.
About half the 156 accidents that took place during the long weekend were caused by speeding and about 13 percent by drunk driving, said Hay Varun, deputy chief of the department of order at the Ministry of Interior.
Prey Veng province registered the most traffic fatalities, at nine, followed by Battambang with five and Siem Reap with four.
Overall, the number of traffic incidents fell from last year’s festival, which saw 58 dead and 490 injured.
“This is the initial official result and is acceptable,” said San Socheata, head of the traffic program at Handicap International Belgium.
A more comprehensive result compiled from hospitals and health centers nationwide is expected in three months.

Cambodia has no speed sign plat on the road, so the driver have no idea what speed limited on the road. I see in Cambodia most of the road, there's NO speed sign on it. How would you expect people to see while driving, go by speed limite since there's NO sign to follow.
is it possible to have zero traffic accident death in cambodia during festival like new year, etc? at least, the number is getting less and less, that's a good sign, really!
