The 13 women were found guilty of illegally taking land and resisting public officers. Each received a jail term of between one year and two-and-a-half years. They were arrested this week when they tried to rebuild a home at the Boeung Kak lake development in protest of a forced eviction there earlier this year.
“They have been doubly victimized,” said Ou Virak, head of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights. “Victimized by the court and victimized by the land concession to the private company.”
About 100 demonstrators gathered outside the court on Thursday, as the women were remanded to Prey Sar prison. Two of those demonstrators were arrested Tuesday afternoon and were held without charge, the center said in a statement.
Those imprisoned were Kong Chantha, Tol Sreypov, Tep Vanny, Pov Sophea, Suong Samai, Pan Chhunret, Heng Nom, Chan Navy, Po Davy, Nguon Kimleang, Song Sreyleap, Chheng Leap and Nget Kun. Seven of the women received sentences of two years and six months; five were given two years; and one was sentenced to one year in prison.
“Even though they are condemned, the Boeung Kak lake [conflict] will not end,” said Am Sam Ath, lead investigator for the rights group Licadho. The women were convicted on thin evidence, he said, including a video clip that did not include any of the seven defendants on trial, he said.
Meanwhile, Loun Savath, a monk who is also a prominent human rights activist, was forced into a vehicle at Wat Botum in Phnom Penh and is reportedly defrocked, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights said Thursday. He was driven away by unidentified men after being surrounded by police and officials from the ministries of Interior and Religion.

The purpose of the Cambodian people is to die or to go to prison under AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave government ! There are no options for these dirt poor Cambodian people! If these dirt poor Cambodian people know any better and why not die fighting! The Vietcong and their slaves are planting the seed of destruction for Cambodia!
This is so ridiculous !!!! BUT It may become the drop that will unite more and more people to unite against this shameless government and attract the attention of international media! A governor who shot three women in daylight was not even arrested after several month and a court categorized his act as "unintentional harm" while 13 unarmed women who were just defending their basic rights to be heard and to protect other victims were immediately sentenced to long term jail!
Let continue their fight. A trusted person (Mu Sohua) or organization should set up an account to collect funds to assist those women with best advocates, PI campaign and assisted their family members!! let show some solidarity to them.
Let’s me emphasis to you regarding the land grabbing and violence against with the police and the people. The company has been compensated to the families but they refused because not enough for them, however, some families have accepted the compensation. Those people who did not they refuse, and against the company that ‘s why the violence get start and have been started for years. Thus concerning this situation, you can put the blame on Samdech Mohadechu Hun Sen, he does not care if those people mean to commit suicide. I’ve seen happening all the time so on and so it seems never ended. I beg to the people that they should make an agreement with the company, your life is important to the land. Am I clear to you pal? You guy live abroad and did not understand the situation in Cambodia. So, don't you put the blame on government.

I find it very funny when someone blogs about the plight of their own people sufferings like its nothing. I could only wish that you were in their shoes to feel their pain. Weather they are right or not, they should be treated with dignity. After all, isn't that what we all want?

I live in Siem Reap, but I won't tell you where I am, I have been stationed almost every week in the westernside in Cambodia. I am a cop/police officer. I don't live in Phnom Penh, but I am aware of what has been goining on.

In peace time people get shot at everywhere in the world not just in Cambodia.

he CPP has a very dirty but efficient way to control hundred of thousand if not millions people who are practically held hostage by the situation. The CPP can increase salary of government workers, teachers and soldiers, police...etc. No one can survive with current salaries. In order to earn more by taking bribe, you should demonstrate to be loyal to the CPP the more you can take bribes (but also the more you take, the more you have to pay higher officials). The more you get, the more you become addicted to this way of surviving, or if you become rich you by that way you become completely loyal to CPP and must defend your or their interest. Of course, this is not the case with everybody (I dare hope so). I have a friend who also speak badly about CPP and always voted SRP but nevertheless always go campaigning for CPP. He is forced to do so in order to keep his work and feed his family. Since he is just surviving and not getting rich, I know he still vote SRP and hate CPP. Another friend voted SRP, became richer and richer by taking brides and is now afraid that CPP loose. Still he is a good man and I don't think he will fight, die or kill for CPP. Other who are less educated, may be brain washed and bought by CPP with promises of power, wealth to do the dirty jobs to keep CPP in power. Poor and uneducated people are so busy surviving that they do no see longer perspective and are more prone to see CPP coming with combination of gift, money in addition with with intimidation and threat of war/instability (if CPP loose election - but who controls the army/police that have the potential to make troubles? SRP? of course not). If the SRP or any viable opposition parties can find solution and clearly explain to the population how to deal with breaking this system of corruption and "free" the police, army, normal government officials caught in this trap, it will have better chance to win the election. SRP should set up a communication and PI team to work out clear messages and to be explained according to the different level of understanding among the population. All the absurds things said by Hun Sen and his cronies (and there are plenty of them) in the different forums should be recorded, studied by the team and immediately used to expose (possibly still in a polite ironical and intelligent way) his non-sense and disseminate as wide and fast as possible. SRP should also be fast to accept his mistakes or praise any of the good actions (quite difficult because not so any noticed) of the governments if any. In short, is to demonstrate a mature attitude which will contrast with the thuggish behavior of Hun Sen. Extreme nationalistic position may not be well seen, Vietnam and Thailand will always be in our doorstep, not all of them are bad people (as not all of us are good). If they look down on us it is more because we did not show (yet) them how good we are.
The women were convicted on thin evidence.....yet it takes years and a shit load of evidence to convict KR? Too many 'human rights' organisations sit and do nothing and this is why viet puppet hun sen is still in power. Grow a backbone or get the f**k out!!

= Do you know how much the compensation offer by the company? Do you even know? Is it the middlemen who make the offer? Is it AH HUN SEN henchmen who made the offer? You can't just make a simple offer and have these dirt-poor Cambodian people uprooted to a fucken place where there is no running toilet, clean water, roads, jobs, schools, hospitals, and markets...Only monkeys and Vietcong slaves would go to live in such a fuck up place!

=Tell me something that I don't know! Who allow these Companies to enter Cambodia in the first place? If not AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave government then who? Is it the Vietcong master? Now that these foreign Companies are in Cambodia and they have more right than Cambodian people including you? Where are the rules and regulations that govern the conduct of these Companies? The day dirt-poor Cambodian people are forced to make agreement with these Companies and it will the day Cambodia cease to exist as a country!
