Cambodia and Vietnam’s border shuffle in Kampong Cham province will involve more than the two previously discussed villages, a government official said yesterday, and will include farmland intended to compensate Vietnam for land being farmed by Cambodian farmers on what is believed to be the Vietnamese side of the border.

Va Kimhong, a senior minister in charge of the Cambodian Border Committee, told the Post that a number of areas have been identified in which Cambodian farmland encroaches onto Vietnamese territory. (sic!)

But, he added, rather than relinquish the overlapping farmlands to Vietnam, effectively taking them from their current owners, Cambodia will find acceptable farmland elsewhere to cede to its eastern neighbour.

“[Where] we are occupying, we will keep it for [our people] to continue their farming,” Kimhong said. “And we must find out any farmlands and ask if they want this or anywhere we change it in the same province.”

Kimhong added that there must first be proper negotiations and an agreement between both countries, but did not give a specific date for exchange, or elaborate on where exactly land would be transferred, except to say that it would also be in Kampong Cham province.

Opposition members and civil society groups have called on the government to postpone the transaction, claiming that any exchange with Vietnam must be based on a UN-certified map and include participation from political parties, NGOs and the international community.

“The Sam Rainsy Party absolutely opposes to any decision to cut Khmer land to Vietnam,” said Yim Sovann, an SRP spokesman and lawmaker, adding that all of the land in question is actually Cambodian.

Rong Chhun, head of the Cambodian Watchdog Council, echoed Sovann’s sentiment.

“I have walked and had a look at the majority; I have never seen border posts planted into [Vietnamese land],” he said. “In fact, [it would be] Khmer land changed with Khmer land.

Khmer land is not your personal property.
You, the C Porng Party (CPP) and Ah Kwack do not have the right to give away Khmer land to their master Vietnam.

When only Khmer land was lost and Cambodia did not get anything in return, they do not call that swap.

The most important thing is that Khmer land belongs to Khmer and you mother fucker Svar Kim Hong does not have the right to give it to anybody.

Do you understand? Ah Kbot Cheat Var Kim Hong?

Should Khmer people continue sleeping and allowing this traitor Var Kim Hong to do anything at will with Khmer land?
Or we make a peaceful mass rally to protest his traitorous acts?

This traitor gave a couple of Khmer villages to Vietnam first, and there was no reaction from the lazy sleeping Khmer people; therefore, this idiot will give more lands to Vietnam.

Dear All,

We must stop the giveaway of Khmer lands to Yuon.
SRP stated we should go by a UN certified map. If there is such a map, any violation or deviation thereof must be reported to the UN.
Why didn't SRP bring these violations to the UN and/or the International Courts ?

No Viet citizen should lead our country because our country belongs to khmer leaders to lead. This is not right. Viet and Chinese should leave khmers/country alone.
