More than 50 workers from H&L Apparel in Phnom Penh were taken to hospital yesterday after fainting at work.
“They fainted because they lacked food and adequate hygiene and the chemicals in the clothes made them weak,” said Free Trade Union official Oum Lina, who visited the workers at the hospital.
According to the Free Trade Union, 1,424 Cambodian factory workers have fainted so far this year.
Meanwhile, Kampong Speu province’s Sein-Atree factory workers, who had been striking since Tuesday for better working conditions and wages the factory withheld, met yesterday with union and provincial labour department officials but failed to find a solution.
Worker representative Sun Sameoun said the workers would send the case to the Arbitration Council today.
He added that the approximately 500 strikers will return to work today and will protest inside the factory if management rejects their return.
