Obama pledges to enhance ties with Cambodia during his new term

Xinhua | 2013-1-16

The US President Barack Obama said he looks forward to continuing and strengthening the relationship between the US and Cambodia over his next four-year term, according to his message to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen released by Cambodian Ministry of Foreign on Wednesday.

"Working together, I am confident we will be able to successfully confront the many challenges we are facing around the world," Obama added.

His letter was made in reply to a Hun Sen's congratulatory message in November last year on the occasion that Obama was re- elected as the US President.

"Your reelection is not only a proud moment for America but it is also a joy and pride of the peoples around the world," Hun Sen said at that time, expressing hope that the bilateral ties would be further enhanced during Obama's second term of office.

The United States is Cambodia's largest export destination.

In the first eleven months of last year, the country's exports to the US valued at 2.49 billion US dollars, down 1 percent year-on-year, the report of the US Department of Commerce said.

During the period, the Southeast Asian nation had also greeted 153,880 American tourists, up 12 percent year-on-year, making the US the seventh largest arrival groups to Cambodia, said a tourism report.

On the investment side, the US is Cambodia's fifth largest investor with the cumulative investment of 1.33 billion US dollars from 1994 to July last year, according to a record of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

Please don't spread false rumors about Cambodia been Viet's slaves. PM Hun Sen and CPP leaders are not what we called high academic achievers but they ascended from a poor, ignorant, illiterate Khmer Rough regime. Since then Hun Sen had many American, European, Asian advisers to help and taught him on world politics. Hun Sen now doing very well for a boy who joined KR only finished junior high education level. He rutelss, sometime compassionite, cunning, intelligent, opportunis leader.

I am not a CPP supporter but I am also neutral mind person. Cambodia had a lot of helps from around the world. Cambodian peoples worked their tail off every day, so please don't give our achievements to Youn or Siam. I just got back from Cambodia two months ago I noticed that Cambodian are very improviseness peoples. Cambodia had improved a lot and a long way to go.

Yes, Hun Sen needed to improve to enforce corruption laws, illegal Viet
immigrants, land rights, press freedom, election reforms. If you care about Khmer STOP label us as Youn's slaves, you just tell the world that Khmer are dumb and incapable of self governed. WE MUST HELP BUILD CAMBODIA TOGETHERS. WE MUST NEVER GET LEFT BEHIND BY OUR NEIGHBORS.

The different between Obama re-election vs Hun Sen.
Obama is on his ability as leader and won fairly while Hun Sen in 2013 is for his ability to buy votes & rigged votes.

3:06 AM, you have made some good points, but you are lack of intelligence, experiences and critical thinking when it comes to Cambodia's serious issues coming from and being created by the real Vietnamese/Yuon thieves and dangerous mindsets.

Yes, your comments reminds us that you and some of Khmer people who live in a comfort zone and are easy to forget the enemies will go after the weakness or try to attach our Khmer people on vacation or on the break.

So, just remember that. So, don't be so naive and gullible.
