[Thai] Ultra-nationalists charge government with 'lying' about Cambodian temple

BANGKOK, Jan 7 (MCOT) – Beginning next Monday a Thai nationalist group will protest the Foreign Ministry’s handling of the Phra Viharn (Preah Vihear) temple dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.

Chaiwat Sinsuwong, an activist of the so-called United Front of Thai Nationalists and Saviours of Thai Territory, said the group will take its claims against the government to the Criminal Court and sue the Foreign Ministry for giving out false information on the Thai-Cambodian dispute to the Thai public.

The group will march to the Supreme Court on January 21 to officially ask the court chairman to consider the controversy, he said, adding that the group will submit a similar request to leaders of the three armed forces, seeking their cooperation in rejecting the authority of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), he said.

Karun Sai-ngam, another leader of the group, said it has collected 570,000 names of persons who will join the protest, expects to have one million signatures in two weeks.

Former foreign minister Prasong Soonsiri, also an executive of the United Front, said the country’s political and economic crises are reaching a boiling point and an anti-government rally by the people could be possible anytime from now.
