A Buddhist monk throws a rock at a destroyed police car during a clash

Riot policemen protect a man, that was accused of trying to hit a Buddhist monk, as a monk tries to punch him after an incident at a polling station, in which voters protested against alleged election irregularities, in Phnom Penh July 28, 2013. Cambodians voted on Sunday in an election likely to hand another five years in power to Asia's longest-serving prime minister, Hun Sen, but an energised opposition says there have been irregularities and it will continue to fight for true democracy. What happens to self control?

It does not matter what happened. This young Buddhist monk has defied the teachings of Buddha by resorting to violence and expressing uncontrolled anger boldly even in the public place.

He must be disrobed and should not be allowed to remain a monk!

4:16AM From what you are saying he should be a punching bag eventhough he's right!

So that monk should "Sampeas" Kdor your Master Ah Kantorb or what?

If the monk cannot control his temper, then there is no difference at all between the monk and the lay person and for that reason the monk cannot teach tolerance and non-violence and should begin to start working for their own food!!!

United non-violence protest goes along way to achieve the goal. Violence is Hun Sen's strength and, if given an excuse, he will use it to its maximun!!!

A much maligned woman who had repeatedly been subjected to abuses by a man went to the Buddha asking for guidance and help as to what to do with her tormentor.

Buddha: Find yourself a big stick and hit him as hard as you can with it!!

And so she did as instructed, and the man never bothered her again...

You never heard this from me!

Those who condone this monk's violence should remember that you will never get the sympathy of the international community for such a silly violent behaviour. And without the international community you will never uproot Hun Sen and that is the reality in Cambodia whether you like it or not. You can shout Youn here and Youn there, but you are not doing anything useful to help the cause of the CNRP!!!

5:03 AM,

You said that and NOT Buddha!!!

Freedom of speech means freedom to express one's opinion.

A lot of people in this site claim to want democracy and uphold freedom of expression, but cannot tolerate even a small disagreement of opinion.

Khmer ei te eing, Youn ei te Kei

Well, everyone else says that, don't they?, about things attributed to "Buddha", particularly, things they disagree with!

However, it is the message and moral of the story that count.

5:22 AM,

If your argument stands, then there is no need to offer any offering to the monks since they are not any different from an ordinary person. Fortunately not every monk acts that way; otherwise, I stop visiting the Buddhist monastery since there is no point in learning from those who can control their temper less than me!

Monks are all mortals like all lay folks, and are endowed with inherent human strengths and weaknesses. Even within a given monastic community there are distinctions and differences in terms of individual merits, sacrifice and purity. You may as a lay person choose to treat individual monks differently depending upon your personal beliefs about what constitutes monk-hood, and the Buddha himself would have been fine with that since he always urged his followers to use their judgement wisely and pragmatically rather than sticking unthinkingly to dogmas and static precepts, particularly, in view of cruelties and injustice meted out to innocent and pacific followers of Buddhism. The woman quoted above was in fact a Buddhist nun in one Buddhist text.

There are monks in Cambodia and elsewhere who are up to no good, like taking pictures of naked girls and visiting places of vices after dark, and yes, these people are dishonouring their monastic order and themselves as well as the lay community that sustains them through alms giving, and yes, you are within your right and conscience to cease supporting them where you see fit. Although any act of violence can never be justified it is not uncommon for monks to rally behind their suffering lay community and folks since they ultimately issued from that community and those folks in the first instance, and must feel their sense of injustice and pains like them.

Remember the wider social context that aroused the monk's anger and caused him to lose his temper and self-control in the first place, and contrast that gesture or act with the act of simply and passively standing aside and watch your fellow men die or threatened with imminent catastrophe. There were monks in Tibet and Burma, who previously engaged in a series of riots and scuffles with authorities on even larger scales, and the rest of the world gave them its sympathy and understanding, if not directly encouraging them on, and this is simply because the evils facing them were just as despicable, intolerable and unacceptable to any justice-loving human being.

King Jayavarman vii was also a devout Buddhist who rose to his people's rescue and salvation when they needed a saviour. And he initiated more than just throwing a brickbat at an over-turned car.

Of course, you are entitled to hold your view, and that is fine by me.

Dictator Hun Sen must be gone for good like other dictators in the world.

To date, rulers have been forced from power in Tunisia,[1] Egypt (twice),[2] Libya,[3] and Yemen;[4] civil uprisings have erupted in Bahrain[5] and Syria;[6] major protests have broken out in Algeria,[7] Iraq,[8] Jordan,[9] Kuwait,[10] Morocco,[11] and Sudan;[12] and minor protests have occurred in Mauritania,[13] Oman,[14] Saudi Arabia,[15] Djibouti,[16] and Western Sahara.[17]

Let's the 7 revolution start today! Otherwise, Khmer people will never be free and fair under dictator Hun Sen CPP. No more talk or negotiation as that only prolong Khmer people suffer. Let's end all dictator Hun Sen regime now!

6:42 AM,

Look at the monk in the picture who was throwing stones at the car. I don't think his situation is the same as those you described in your comment.

The monk is not throwing stone to protect himself or people around him, but to express his uncontrolled anger! He should have been smarter to deal with the problem in a different way! He is just simply showing that he is not any different from the CPP pigs.

ALL OF YOU NEED TO SHUT THE HELL UP. THE MONK HAS EVERY RIGHT TO EXPRESS HIS ANGER. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE A MONK AND HAD BEEN PEED ON FOR 30 YEARS, AND WHEN YOU WENT TO VOTE THEY TELL YOU TO GO HOME? I KNOW WHAT YOU ALL GOING TO SAY "THANK YOU FOR NOT LETTING ME VOTE AND PLEASE NEXT DON'T PEE ON ME, SHIT ON ME.

I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE A MONK OR NOT, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

By “any patriot Khmers”

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?

The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?

Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?

Hun Sen = Gaddafi

Hun Sen is Gaddafi

Capture and death: September–October 2011

Main article: Death of Muammar Gaddafi

Although all major cities were now under NTC control, a few towns in western Libya—such as Bani Walid, Sebha and Sirte—remained Gaddafist strongholds.[273] Retreating to the latter after Tripoli's fall,[274] Gaddafi announced his willingness to negotiate for a handover to a transitional government, a suggestion rejected by the NTC, who held out for total victory.[273] Surrounding himself with trusted confidants and bodyguards,[274] he continually moved residences to escape NTC shelling; with food, water and electricity becoming scarce, Gaddafi devoted his days to reading the Qur'an and praying.[275] On the morning of Thursday 20 October, Gaddafi broke out of Sirte's District 2 in a joint civilian-military convoy, hoping to take refuge in the Jarref Valley.[276][277] At around 8.30am, NATO bombers attacked, destroying at least 14 vehicles and killing at least 53.[277][278] The convoy scattered, and Gaddafi and those closest to him fled to a nearby villa, which was shelled by rebel militia from Misrata. Fleeing to a construction site, Gaddafi and his inner consort hid inside drainage pipes while his bodyguards battled the rebels; in the conflict, Gaddafi suffered head injuries from a grenade blast while defence minister Abu-Bakr Yunis Jabr was killed.[277][279][280]

Overwhelming the loyalists, a Misratan militia took Gaddafi prisoner, beating him and stabbing him in the anus with a bayonet, causing serious injuries; the events were filmed on a cell phone, accompanied by cries of "Allahu Akbar!" and "Misrata!". Pulled onto the front of a pick-up truck, he fell off as it drove away. His semi-naked, lifeless body was then placed into an ambulance and taken to Misrata; upon arrival, he was found to be dead.[281] Official NTC accounts claimed that Gaddafi was caught in a cross-fire and died from his bullet wounds.[277] Other eye-witness accounts claimed that rebels had fatally shot Gaddafi in the stomach;[277] a rebel identifying himself as Senad el-Sadik el-Ureybi later claimed responsibility.[282] Gaddafi's son Mutassim, who had also been among the convoy, was also captured, and found dead several hours later, most probably from an extrajudicial execution.[283] Around 140 Gaddafi loyalists were rounded up from the convoy; tied up and abused, the corpses of 66 were found at the nearby Mahari Hotel, victims of extrajudicial execution.[284] Libya's chief forensic pathologist, Dr. Othman al-Zintani, carried out the autopsies of Gaddafi, his son and Jabr in the days following their death; although the pathologist initially told the press that Gaddafi had died from a gunshot wound to the head, the autopsy report was not made public.[285]

On the afternoon of Gaddafi's death, NTC Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril publicly revealed the news.[277] Gaddafi's corpse was placed in the freezer of a local market alongside the corpses of Yunis Jabr and Mutassim; the bodies were publicly displayed for four days, with Libyans from all over the country coming to view them.[286] In response to international calls, on 24 October Jibril announced that a commission would investigate Gaddafi's death.[287] On 25 October, the NTC announced that Gaddafi had been buried at an unidentified location in the desert; Al Aan TV showed amateur video footage of the funeral.[288][289] Seeking vengeance for the killing, Gaddafist sympathisers fatally wounded one of those who had captured Gaddafi, Omran Shaaban, near Bani Walid in September 2012.[290]

1:27 PM,

You talk nonsense. Why don't you come to Cambodia and lead us to get rid of Hun Sen rather than talking shit behind your computer in the US.

Who are you to tell me to shut up? I thought you lived in the US where freedom of speech is adored. You live in the US, but think like Hun Sen? Wanting those who disagree with you to shut up? Well, then don't blame Hun Sen as he thinks like you wanting those who disagree with him to shut the fuck up!
