PM’S history of electoral manipulation, intimidation and violence shows he has no desire to cede power to democracy
Brad Adams | Human Rights Watch | The Bankgok Post | 20 Aug. 2013
Many diplomats and officials from influential governments know little
about recent Cambodian history, leading some to issue meaningless
statements calling on all sides to respect the legal process, when the
ruling party has total control over the process.
Others have proposed policies that either have no chance at success
or, consciously or unconsciously, favour the status quo, such as calling
on ‘‘all parties’’ to avoid post-election violence when the CPP has
singularly used violence as a tactic in past election periods, or
suggesting that the opposition should use its large minority in a new
National Assembly to push for electoral and other reform — something the
CPP has never allowed over the past 20 years.

Brad Adams is Khmer hero!!!
Could you, Lord Khmer Democrat put his picture up among our heroes please? Thank you
Agreed that status quo should not be favored in many democratic governments. However, just as capitalism might not work in one free society(s) while it seems to do well in communist regimes, status quo kind of government/lerdership is probably just what Cambodia has needed and will still need for sometimes into the future. Cambodia is unique in her political, social, and ideological framework, and the shaping up toward that uniqueness has revolved mainly around one thing that many seem to overlook. It is the people's experience of the Khmer holocaust. It has given rise to this important question - who would have made a leader better than the one man who is the center of attention - PM Hun Sen. A brief look around at as many government levels as one can see, all or most of those in power are the ones who shared and lived the much said experience, knowing what it felt like to suffer through it(the Khmer holocaust). How effective would a new leader(For instant, HE Sam Rainsy) who is someone outside of their circle and who has never lived through the holocaust be able to relate to these men already in power, or rather established network of power, and also able to relate to ordinary citizens especially those from the old generations ? Until another right leader emerges, the status quo again seems to be the right kind of governing. With all respect for Brad Adams.
Bravo Mr. Adams!
Thank you very much for your statements; I could not say it better about the CPP and Hun Sen.
Pissed Off
hun sen can't leave office yet, the Vietnamese is still milking Cambodia dry.
Every time we read Mr. Brad Adam's article on Cambodia, we Khmer feel happy in knowing that we're not alone. Someone else knows of our suffering and is helping to fight the injustice with us.
If we have to, we'll fight tooth and nail to have our elected leader running our country and serving our people.
Thank you Mr. Adams that you are with the Cambodian victims and understand well about the situation. Especially, you are a real wisdom person and has a conscience respectfully. You are different from some of foreigners who are veiled by the remuneration
and any other benefits and is willing to lose the conscience reputation of the mankind.
I experienced that Hun Sen and CPP
gang used money and power that they owned to buy all those kind of people through by their mafia gang to work for them. So, we believe Mr. Adams is a good faith, just and clean person to conduct your agency to stand as a neutral agency and raise your voice for the cambodian victims who victimized by this devil communist government to get a real justice. Thanks again for your thought of Cambodians.
