Golden memories ... សុវណ្ណអនុស្សារ

pka rik ler mek - ros sereysothea

chomreing snae yerng - ros sereysothea
[This has got to be one of the most memorable, nostalgic sounds from the golden era. Never mind who wrote it, the song's cascading melodies pull the heartstrings and ache the soul like no other. Ok, I exaggerated it slightly... but I am doing my level best as a part-time DJ. Whatever! Enjoy the weekend - School of Vice ]

Dear School of Vice,

The song "chomreing snae yerng", I never knew the title, until now. In fact, this is one of my favorite songs. I made a video and uploaded it to my own youtube channel some years ago, but without the title. Here's the evident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVpMtZ1pWtY

I love this song a lot, since I heard it because of the narrative style in the lyrics.

See your DJ part-time job is incredible and very helpful for someone like me :)

I see you have an eye for beautiful things. That must count for something in this material world.

Dear School of Vice,

The song "Angkea bos euy" is a very beautiful song. I think this movie has to be sad. I never watch it. When I was in Thai camp, the DJ [who in Philippine was my wonderful next door neighbor], played this song and this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hGowuNagYY back to back. I believe it's from the same movie. I love both of them. I love your song selection very much. Very similar to mine. Except the happy songs. I love sentimental and the very very sad ones a lot :)

Dear Jendha,

'Pka ongkea bos' might not have been the song's original title. I suspect the title begins with the word 'thomnoun...' instead as is the norm for so many songs composed in this genre.

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, and when in Phnom Penh always made my pilgrim to the Ongkea Bos tree by the grassy hill of Wat Phnom. I knew the identity of the tree from the sign on it with the words: "Deum pka angkea bos", and one could always see its pretty little fallen white blossoms scattered on the ground. Picking up the flower with its unique perfume like scent I could only remember the song written in its name and the bitter-sweet melody in my mind.

The short poems or melodic verses we hear at the beginning of the song are the most beautiful and majestic accompaniment to a song ever written, and just as rare as the plant by this same beautiful name of "Pka Ongkea Bos".

The whole song is flawless in its tragic-melancholy and power; made even more soul searing by the immaculate voice of Ms Ros Sereysothea. I have made at least 2 videos with images of Wat Phnom in dedication to this secret garden of memories of mine, as well as of all those men and women whose dreams and purity of heart lifted them well above the rest of their fellow kind.

Dear School of Vice,

I agree with you to a certain degree in regards to the title of Khmer songs. But in this case, "Pka ongkea bos" is the title of this song [the one alone by Ros sereysothea] Unless someone printed the CD cover incorrectly. Yes, Pka ongkea bos is very beautiful.I am in love with the name and the white blossoms, by just visualizing it, and especially while a soft wind blowing these pretty flowers, shifting their fragrance through windows. I always wonder how far a fragrance of pka ongkear boss could travel. I love white flower more than any other color.

I pay very close attention to every word in any song I love, that's why I memorize the lyrics on most songs so well.

Maybe some day you could share the two videos you made with images of Wat Phnom, here. I would love to see them.

Dear School of Vice,

Just to inform you that the song "pka rik ler mek" you posted here is not the original version. It's a remixed, unfortunately.

1. One beat at the beginning is missing.
2. Lyric on of the original version begins at 0:07 and this one begins almost at 0:09 (huge gap).

I just downloaded this version and lay both of them on audio timeline. The graphics are quite different. Case is now closed. I was right :)))

PS: That's how close I pay my attention to Golden Era :)
