Scene at 'Democracy Park'

Re: March seen as a step forward

“I don’t want to say it’s a victory for the CNRP,” he told the Post. “But it’s a victory for the people. We’re making big progress.” Yim Sovann said.

This seems to be the right and qualified statement for a spokesperson of the CNRP to make. However, such 'concessions' are and should never be considered as instances of 'victory' for the opposition and its supporters in the first place.

Freedom to hold a public demonstration or engage in political assembly etc. is enshrined under the constitution. Some opposition party leaders have spoken gleefully of such concessions granted during closed door meetings with their CPP counterparts as though these were something of a hard-earned 'victory' for the Opposition and its supporters whereas they represent nothing more than democratic constitutional rights and privileges to be enjoyed and exercised by citizens.

To be able to camp at the so-called "Democracy Park" for a couple of nights is not a privilege but a necessity for many who have sold their livestock or used their meagre savings to come from the provinces to join the protest. These mostly poor people can't possible afford to check into one of those luxury hotels mushrooming all over the capital, surely!

There are thousands more who are presently being barred from entering the capital by police road blocks on the outskirt of Phnom Penh along most main highways and passages into the city.

Dictatorship and tyranny are a curse and blight upon humanity and the community, and so long as this remains the case we should appraise or prepare our thoughts and mindset pragmatically and morally to meet the challenges that it poses before us.

One of the things that the Opposition and its supporters should not do is giving tyrants the credit they clearly do not deserve. If they belated allow people to march peacefully or lift the road blocks - we should ask them why they had decided to violate this fundamental constitutional right and principle in the first instance and, condemn their action for what it is, rather than giving them a pat on the back in an unwitting manner.

Refuse to accept the tyrant's rules and definitions, and you may have already won the most decisive battle to free yourself from his tyranny.

this article sounds more like a person whose opinion is not to have any dialogue with their opponent at all. kind of contrary to what others are encouraging to do which is dialogue. maybe this person suggests a use of force to stake election victory when it's not! i say be careful with who you associate with. some people can be so uncooperative and made and unethical, to say the least. this is not a solution, the solution is to work out an agreement, not my way or the way like a tyranny or totalitarian regime. is that where you are heading? then, watch out for hypocritical cnrp, they are heading toward another pol pot-like primitive system. if you keep up like this, people who can think for themself will stop voting for your party for fear of unrest violence. who in their right mind still want that? know the difference between civilian and military. your background sounds more like a military solution, where is civilian way, there are many ways to make it work, and violence is not always the solution. think wisely about what you are thinking ans saying on public blog like this. nothing bokgul or personal(bokgul in khmer means personal affairs). where is the ethical code of conduct in all of this? civil society needs it.

Dear School of Vice,

I read this twice, I couldn't agree more. As a person who wants nothing from the world, like Jendhamuni, I never hesitate to slam anyone when needed ;) Great words, great observation by School of Vice. Like I said, Khmer language is so beautiful and flavorful. It can be sweet, salty, bitter, sour... way better than cursing and swearing...

Some Rainsy supporter have PSTD from the khmer rought genocide period, because they only see their ways is right other are all wrong, they don't want to compromise with any body, they don't trust any body but them self, and it lead the poor khmer to no where, but more suffering for the poor khmer. They said they want change, if they wanted the real change they shoul work to earn trust from all khnmer, not some group of khmer, or it will never going to change anything.

Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha must never negotiate or reconciliation with a Criminal People's Party and the Vietnamese slave. All Cambodian wanted a CHANGE now. Peace demonstrations can't Protect Cambodia from the Vietnamese expansion. Violent protests are the only choice to remove Hun Sen from power.

Hun Sen must go if he love Cambodian. If Hun Sen stay in power he hate Cambodian.. He is staying in power to kill all Cambodian and gave Cambodia to Vietnam. All Cambodian must remove Hun Sen by forces.

The CNRP must take a positive step forward and ever play with the right action that the mass public want it since the citizens put a lot of their mutual trust on you and voted for you to lead country to serve much much better for the country's "will." So right now the populous given you the bright of green light for you to manage and serve our sake nation.

AS the dirty tricks of A youn yiek cong "Han Noi" used to play around the globe with the China and Russia and even with the United states, including with the south east Asia, especially on Khmer and Lao That’s today the world was being realized that was truly fact that youn itself was playing and doubled creating such as a liar such a double crossed to the world in order to fulfill their homages dreaming team continuing their ideologies prevailed through Cambodia that was led by the death of A Ho Chiminh since. That's why? Today there is no question asking about how and where was the CPP coming from...
Eventually, the mass of Khmer citizens were cognizant and learned a lot toward who’s the CPP was…
That’s was significant signed that we must gather all together and fight hard for our own freedom back from the ruling party that was led by the snob’s Hun Sen who was a subvert to Han Noi.
As we are not racist, we just want to kicked out people as the enemy of Khmer whose their country was invaded Cambodia.
It’s time and the right time that we should get up to push this current ruling government away from our country as matter of what. And the word as negotiation or the endorsement with the tyranny CPP, I personally really don’t like at all because we knew exactly from past experiences.
Because of the promises that H.S has made that never come as the truth at all. Plus all they need just to use their power and money to buy off people who were against to them only, but sooner and later they will destroy you in either way as intentionally and purposely, is it clear now.
Believing the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) stayed stance with its own basis principle as before and after the National Election. The most important is we should have though the end until the satisfaction from the majority of citizens to have to be met of their dream and want it.
The key things is today the mass supports coming outside world and inside world has much stronger than ever before as they would prefer and want to change”Phdo, Phdo and Phdo” the CPP’s gov anxiously.
With that we believe the leaderships of the” CNRP” will not let our citizens down, but will work hard and harder in order to deliver your promise as you had promised before the election had been in the past of July, 2013. Once again we citizens hopefully expect that we trust on all of the leader of CNRP with 100%, So please do not turn our hope down by any of your unscrupulous rule of the law land of the liberal democracy , and pluralism, otherwise, you all will become to our first target later.
Remember! with H.Sen's word as the rusty metal. And this guy has not intentional to solve and even a peace and protect Khmer nation at all all he just asked is a power greed and lived his life's a gorgeous alone.

He said: "I will fight using ahimsa means until the end of dictatorship."

This is Khmer Gandhi! Thanks to this kind of spirit, Cambodia will never ever be fooled and threatened by any dictatorial leader again.

I salute these Khmer heroes as they too are the people who possess with great dignity and sacrifice to fight for their rights, freedom and social justice.

This is a genuine action and gesture that would inspire all Khmer people inside and outside Cambodia to reevaluate their commitment to support the same cause.
They especially have been betrayed and repeatedly violated with their basic human rights by their wicked leaders such as the former king Sihanouk, the KR, the present king Sihamuni and worse of all, Hun Sen and the CPP including the cronies, and the opportunists who support the regime to serve their personal gain.
I feel very sad to look at their pictures and also see comments with suggestion towards violence to sacrifice these innocent lives.

It is not their fault at all to be born poor, uneducated and under privilege.
It is their leaders who has the responsibility to provide all support and means to assist them with the unfortunate situation in their society to provide services and good governance for them and the country.

Please be patience with this slow process of non violence demonstration.
I know it's frustrating and nerve wrecking to feel that we may miss the golden opportunity to win by force. But it never will be too late to achieve anything if we keep sticking to our goal and stay strong in solidarity and have faith with each other.

Our Khmer saying " DOL KAMPONG LOUNG TOOK ". It means when we reach the shore, the boat sank.

WE MUST NOT LET THIS HAPPENS TO ALL OF US AND CAMBODIA.

Hun/CPP/NEC/VC/Chen=1 are very good lying, deceiving and manipulation. Never ever trust in them ever again. This is what KIngta said, 'I trusted them, I have helped them in everyway I could, until I lost everything including my throne, but still they stabbed in the back, they are expansionists and they are like crocodiles'.

This is a lesson to be learned. So, no more negotiation, no more deal with these crooks. Tell our people to keep going until the demands are met. On the third days, we have to find way to get Hun and his dynasty down. Because Cambodia belongs to Cambodians, not his mafia group of gangster, OK?!. We have to fight for what is rightfully ours e.g our country and nation, our rivers, our fish and our crops etc.

If we don't act now, thats it, we are finished. So far, we have elected our new leaders Sam and Kem to run our nation. It is time for all of us to stand by him. I urge all armed forces to listen to both our people and our leaders' voices. Because your job is to work to protect our country and nation, not the Hun dynasty, why? because our armed forces working to protect our country and nation, this traitor 'Hun Sen' is working hard to give away our land and sea.

In other words, Hun/Cpp are traitors or puppets of the oursiders who are working for their national interests (Viet/Chen). It is time to put an end to this dictatorship. So, we have to keep going no matter what or else, again we are finished. Hun/CPP must go and it has to be now!.

Normally, no nation would want to support such a criminal who ruled to ruin our country and nation for the last 30 years. But if anyone nation doesn't, god knows because he is right and just and he will punish them like one too. God said 'do not take advantage of the downfall or else, I will make you pay big time'. How, he will sent fire, flood, earth quake, tsunami, cyclone to destroy them, why because they are helping to destroy others like us.

or what goes around will come around, why? because karma is real like when 'you are cruel, you are doing it to yourself'. E,g after Tony Abbot congratualate this criminal Hun, Aust-blue mountain is on fire, why? is not that I wish on anybody but it is reality of who god really is, again, because he is right and just.

So I urge all democratic country to stick to their value of social right and social justice or else, we have to pay back big time. In this case, interntional community must help our poor nation from being oppressed by these two nations of the Viet and Chinese. Please try to find justice for the poor and vulnerable people, try to find their true results from voting irregularities or else, it is like you all are part of this ciminal cyndicate yourself.

To My Dearest School of Vice:

The Sign of a Collapsing Government

This is the only time that the Cambodia National Rescue Party must ever remain strong. What Cambodian People Party is showing at the moment is the sign of a collapsing government and an uncontrollable force which could be too enormous for CPP. With all of this mobilization of force from the government imposing on innocent civilians had to be advised by outside interference from another country and that could either be Vietnam or China. Cambodia as a country is standing at the threshold of good and evil. This sensitive and hang on by a thin thread situations reminding me of the time when former King Sihanouk is asked to choose between Communism and Capitalism and we know where King Sihanouk on this position. He chose to side with the Khmer Rouge whose boss was China, but former King Sihanouk did not know that even within the Khmer Rouge cliques, there were divided factions between them. Now the same situations have presented itself to Mr. Hun Sen once more. Mr. Hun Sen must choose the right path or he may not as fortunate as former King Sihanouk.

The faith of any leaders depends on the followers and supporters. To conquer a nation one must conquer the hearts and minds of the people, both leaders and the people must be one or else the consequence of leading the mass would be faced with a severe blow to the challenge. Mr. Hun Sen does not have many options left, but to submit to the will of the mass. The dangers of Cambodia lay in the hands of China and Vietnam. I have said many before as to why China and Vietnam, both want to have a stronghold in Cambodia. Vietnam cannot afford to have China controls Cambodia and China cannot afford to have Vietnam take over Cambodia. The question remains as to what will Mr. Hun Sen do to Cambodia between China and Vietnam? According to CPP, if they recognized January 7th, 1979, it meant CPP accepting the agreement between Socialist Vietnam and Cambodia, but if CPP continues to receive aid from China with open arms, it means CPP betrays Vietnam. This dilemma understood very well by both, Vietnam and China about Mr. Hun Sen’s position on that explicit matter. Mr. Hun Sen has one choice and that is to betray China and Vietnam like Ho Chi Minh did to former King Norodom Sihanouk, but then again Ho Chi Minh exchanged his life to uniting his nation between the North and the South. Mr. Hun Sen can do the same exact thing if Mr. Hun Sen decided to take a position of a hero to save Cambodia from China and Vietnam.

The legacy of a hero is hard to come by and if it does, it will be a very difficult task for anyone to achieve such an objective, but Mr. Hun Sen has come to his final days as to become a hero of Cambodia or just a mortal man who strives on opportunities to make a name for himself in a country that has no name.

Thanks

I'm wishing Hun Sen would be a hero by stepping down or sacrifying himself for the good cause of Cambodia, so far he has been a stubborn and greedy individual. But sometime we never know, when he realizes that he is between a rock and a hard place.

Mr. School of Vice,

Thank you for the video and your eloquent note!

កេង លីស is certainly an ordinary Cambodian who is well informed and politically mature to understand what is going on in Cambodia. I am pretty sure that are now many Cambodians like him who are fearless when it comes to fighting for their rights and freedom and making their leader responsible for every action he makes.

I couldn't be happier to see in my lifetime such a development of political maturity, outstanding courage, and willing participation in the political process among poor and ordinary Cambodians! After all, Cambodia belongs to every Cambodian.

There is definitely strong and shining hope for Cambodia.

Dear Pissed Off,

Thanks for your kind comment.

Actually, the video came about courtesy of one of our readers who mentioned it somewhere in this forum, and all I did was to post it! So our thanks and appreciation to that anonymous reader first and foremost.

While I admire these protestors' determination and courage to come from so far to join the collective protest, I can't help feeling rather 'envious' of the opportunity they have to take part in this pivotal and historic movement.

I saw or viewed a video clip somewhere of young people and old ones staying in that park in the evening listening to patriotic songs with tears in their eyes. I think this is the kind of spiritual experience one should not miss, and the kind one may never allow oneself to forget in a hurry!

I'm sure you know what I'm getting at here!

Take care,

Dear Xmen,

Thank you so much for sharing your great incisive insights with us. It is good to have you back.

You are absolutely right on the forces that currently shape and influence HS's decision-making.

The history of modern dictators tends to have followed pretty much the same or similar course of events, from Saddam Hussein of the Ba'ath Party to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya and President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, all of whom began their career in the military, and all having seized power from an existing autocratic regime by the use, or the threat of, military violence.

More or less, all of these now fallen Middle Eastern dictators had been unseated by a general uprising and protest or 'people power' despite their determination or refusal to step voluntarily down from the seat of power.

This is important when dealing with such men whose background, habitual addiction to unrestrained exercise of power, decades of violent abuse of human rights and impunity that stems from that power, all of which would appear to indicate to us that they gravitate to the same pressure and forces that had put them in power decades before rather than to the medium of dialogue or gentle civilised negotiation.

I don't necessarily imply the outright use of violence as the only means to overcome the present impasse. It is crucial to note that despite their great sacrifice the Egyptians did not resort to outright violent means by which to overthrow Mubarak, but largely kept the mainstream of their protest within the deliberate method or confine of nonviolence of Gandhian emphasis. This allowed them to enjoy international sympathy and discredit their adversaries with every strike these adversaries made against them through violence.

On the other hand, the Libyans had an opportunity to unseat Gaddafi using military means, and this is because there were breakaway factions within his military itself that had made this opportunity possible and practicable as a method in their protest.

Cambodia's main hope rests on two fronts in my view:

1- mobilisation of international support, and 2 - mobilisation of internal mass support. In tandem or combination these two factors will prove irresistible to the CPP as they could deprive it of legitimacy in the eye of world community and deprive the regime of socio-economic 'stability' it requires clinging on to power.

Fundamentally, the CPP does not and cannot represent Cambodia and Cambodian people's core interests, and this fact is self-evident from what we have seen from all these decades of its rule. Therefore, any gesture made at reforming of either public institutions or individuals within such institutions are not going to alter the regime's overall outlook or character, but would only be at best superficial and evasive in nature.

These realities need to be highlighted and exposed through ‘non-cooperation’ with the regime and through mass education and mobilisation.

I keep repeating that term 'mobilisation', but I do feel that is the most pivotal key that will help the country and its long suffering people to get out of their enforced dilemma or predicament at this point in time even if they may have to endure some degree of inconvenience or sacrifice in the process.

Kind regards,

There are many means to fight dictatorship but to reach the goal while avoid fellow countrymen bloodshed, using Ahimsa Satyagraha, which means “Non-violent Soul-Force” or “The power of truth” is the best way to shed light on irregularities.

If you decide otherwise and do not value human life, please take the flight, say goodbye to your family, and be the first to show your sacrifice for the nation.

look no further, in cambodia, most people don't care about other people's life nor animal welfare and animal rights. the countries of the world that do understand and care about that is a better country. cambodia still need a lot of education in order to understand what is doing the right thing. the reason for that, simply is: majority of cambodian population suffered a drastic change and traumatic changes in their life, especially what went on during the chaotic era of the KR took over and KR rule. it traumatized khmer people for the rest of their life for elderly generation or those who were old enough to exeprience that. but, we cannot say the same for the younger generation. they tend to have the mind and wants and needs by themself. so, changes are inevitable if cambodia is to have a better gov't, better system, etc.

anyone can agree to that; however, the only problem is: do those people who want changes know how to go about achieving it peacefully and ethically without the use of violence. i think violence is hard to avoid, especially if no one is listening. however, non-violent must be emhasized at all cost because nobody can afford the loss life, especially over something that overlook and other ways to find solution to the problem. using force or violence should only be used as a last resort when all else is exhausted. this is why we all need the rule of law. can't do as we please, we all need to life by the rule of law in order to achieve happiness, peace, prosperity, justice, etc. like it or not, we have to live by the rule of law! if anything, khmer people must understand this!

start asking why the rule of law? i'm sure you will get lots of good answers!

WILL THE CNRP BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH ITS ULTIMATE GOAL OF CREATING AN INDEPENDENT COMMITTEE ?

First of all, we must know Vietnam’s determination to hold on to Cambodia.

If we look back at the history, we would clearly see that Vietnam never abode or complied with all the treaties it had signed.
For instance:
1- Vietnam promised that it would not attack the US and its allies during the Vietnamese new year in 1968.
2- Vietnam did not comply with the 1973 peace treaty it signed with the US.
3- Vietnam did not comply with the 1991 Paris peace accord and instead implement all the bilateral treaties it had signed with Cambodia during its occupation.

Nobody wants Khmer people to die, but we must prepare to face this evil Vietnam
with the right attitude.

Now, the CNRP thought that it won because there was no violence during the demonstration. That is 100% wrong because Khmer people have the right to walk peacefully.

The CNRP must realize that TIME is on Hun Sen and Vietnam’s side. If Vietnam were able to drag this process longer, Khmer people and the international community will lose interest, and the CNRP will go nowhere but a certain defeat.

I suggest that the CNRP does not let up its demonstration after 3 days. KEEP GOING.
The election is 3 months old already. The CPP knew already that with the independent committee, it will become the loser. So, the CPP’s strategy is to drag the process and let TIME kill the CNRP.

To counter effectively Vietnam’s strategy, the CNRP must Intensify its demonstration.

I am not an extremist, but I will consider a great victory for Cambodia and Khmer people if we lost 100,000 people or less during our crusade to liberate Cambodia from Vietnam. It looks like I am the only one who kept saying this.

But I am saying one more time, no lost life, no fruitful result for the CNRP.

My ulterior motive was that Khmer people need help from the international community, especially the UN. The international community will be able to intervene only when Vietnam and Hun Sen committed a huge crime by killing so many people.

Knowing our enemy’s strength and determination is the key for us to win.
No lost life, No result. Keep dreaming. It will never work with this evil Vietnam.

Vietnamese Coffee Shop in Cambodia
by Freedom
July 18, 2009

Nowadays there are many Vietnamese Coffee Shops in Cambodia when Cambodian people seem never drink it before. During the Vietnamese immigrants move to live in Cambodia, it seems Cambodian people are going to be lack job, lose job and have no more chance like before.

When you drive around the Toul Tompong, Kirirom, Olympec and other places in Phnom Penh location, you will see more and more the Vietnamese Coffee Shops with many Vietnamese immigrations.

Vietnamese young girl with her short skirt which is attracted Cambodian people including the students who never like drinking Coffee before here.

A young girl is from South Vietnam. She can not speak Cambodian language including counting Cambodian money, but she could live and run a shop to attract many Cambodian people to drink everyday.
A Vietnamese young girl whom run the Coffee Shop near Human Resources University said, "I do not know how many people come perday, but i have income 500 000 Riel/day."

You could see, she just runs a small Coffee Shop, but she and her family could earn more money. In accordance her incoming, 500 000 Riel is equal around 120$. It is just aday. So how she can earn per month, and year?

I have presented in this Vietnamese Coffee Shop one hour. I see the most of coffee drinking are Cambodian people whom are attracted by her short skirt and white skin.

It is so hard when Vietnamese Coffee Shops increasing from day to day, and Cambodian people still have no job, but they must spend time for coffee drinking and to see Vietnamese young girls.
