Cambodia Opposition Party To Demand Re-Election

2013-11-26 RFA

The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) will push for a re-election if Prime Minister Hun Sen’s government continues to refuse calls for an independent probe into widespread irregularities in the July polls, the opposition party’s deputy president, Kem Sokha, said Tuesday.

He warned that the party, which has boycotted parliament over the disputed polls, would demand new elections during mass protests beginning Dec. 15 to put pressure on the government to conduct a port-mortem of the July 28 vote.

“We want to send the message to the government and the National Election Committee [the government-appointed election body] that we are demanding the truth, and if they don’t give us the truth, we will demand a re-election,” Kem Sokha told RFA’s Khmer Service.

Following a mass demonstration on Dec. 15, the party will hold regular demonstrations every Sunday until its demand is met, he said.

He said the party was hoping to see 300,000 people—or a tenth of the 3 million people the CNRP says voted for it in the polls—turn out for the demonstration.
“We will make the [Dec. 15] mass demonstration bigger in all respects,” Kem Sokha said.

“After December 15, we will hold demonstrations every Sunday.”

The Dec. 15 protest will follow CNRP gatherings marking World Human Rights Day on Dec. 10 in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

CPP-CNRP talks

CNRP lawmakers have refused to join parliament unless their call for an investigation into the polls are met, leaving the party in a political deadlock with Hun Sen’s  Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) which had been declared polls winner by the National Election Committee.

Talks between the two parties have stalled after a meeting earlier this month yielded little progress.

The CNRP has insisted the talks must have on the agenda discussions about an investigation into poll fraud, resignation of election officials, and implementation of recommendations from U.N. experts and NGOs on electoral and other reforms.

On Tuesday, the chief of the CPP’s negotiation team Prum Sokha said the party was waiting for the CNRP to make a fresh move to hold talks.

“The CPP’s door is still open for any talks,” he told RFA.

But CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann responded that his party will only resume talks if the CPP accepts their agenda, which includes pressing for justice for voters, resignation of the NEC members, and electoral reforms.

The CNRP has claimed that election irregularities, including the removal of one million voters from the electoral rolls, robbed it of election victory.

The National Election Committee awarded the CPP 68 parliamentary seats to the CNRP’s 55 in the election, but the CNRP claims it won at least 63 seats and has called for a U.N.-backed investigation and led a series of mass demonstrations against the results.

Dear compatriots,

During this crucial time in our history, we should understand and accept most of the precautious measures taken by the CNRP's leaders after the election.

The task to remove the election’s loser CPP and Hun Sen from the power requires patience, perseverance, flexibility, and great determination.

Some of us should stop behaving like hay fire ( phleung Chambeung ), which burn so wild, so fast and turn into ash so quick.

So, please be patient !!

The December 10th demonstration must be centered only on the election's loser CPP and Hun Sen to concede their defeat or accept the formation of an independent committee to investigate the election's irregularities or opt to have a new election.

So far, this Yuon slave illegal government of Hun Sen has been playing dumb by acting like it is the winner of the election and ignoring all local and international critics.

The loser CPP must go !!

Khmer people have voted you (Hun Sen) out !!

The CPP's time is up !!

Best wishes and good luck to the CNRP and its leaders for their noble efforts to save Cambodia from the traitorous CPP’s government and its evil master Vietnam.

BAD JUDGMENT FROM OUR NATIONALISTS WILL HAVE A CATASTROPHIC RESULT

There have been severe clash of opinions on how to prosecute the thief CPP who stole Khmer people’s votes.

Some people have sharply criticized the CNRPs leaders for being too soft for mounting too peaceful demonstration.

First, we knew that the evil Vietnam has controlled Cambodia over 30 years. Therefore, making a wild demonstration trying to seize the power by a forceful demonstration would be a self destruction. The evil Vietnam will use the CPP’s mask to crush the demonstrators.

In effect, we won the election by a landslide victory. We have to proceed cautiously to avoid the evil Vietnam’s traps. We need to build up support from Khmer people and the international support by mounting a consistent demonstration – making the international community aware that the winner of the election was really the CNRP.

So far, the important elements of the international community have not recognized the CPP’s illegal government yet.

The tactic is to hit the opponent without getting hit. In this particular moment, time is on the CNRP’s side. The CPP cannot go on without the international aid, and if the international community boycotted Khmer products, there will be social unrest from the unemployed workers.

So long as the CNRP refuses to join the National Assembly, Khmer people should support the CNRP’s strategy to claim the election’s victory.

So, please be patient !! We need to sacrifice more than one dog to claim the election’s victory.
( Some people said that they sold their dog in order to get the money to join the demonstration ).

Bun Thoeun

PS; Some people brought up the creation of a Transitional Democratic Council CRAB, which would benefit only the evil Vietnam. Please abandon the dumb idea: 10 Khmers, 10 political parties. This crazy idea has hurt Khmer people terribly.

All Cambodian must donate and support CNRP to win an election. Hun Sen must be gone from Cambodia now. Hun Sen done too much destruction in Cambodia already by destroying the National resources, gave land and islands to Viet is a Capital Crimes. Hun Sen must be facing a death panelty. Preah Vihear and Angkor Wat is controlling by Viet tycoon not Khmer.

Mr. Rainsy quote of CNRP will not accept ANY result from the election look stupid! And Kem Sokha, the joker, talking about S-21 just does not cut it for our people. We need a new leader who talk about how he would help Cambodia, solve social, economic problems in Cambodia.
