Opposition denies asking for funding from hotel to hold rally

The Cambodia Herald, Dec. 12, 2013

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- An opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party senior official has denied that her party had asked for money from a hotel owner to fund their rally in Siem Reap on Human Rights Day (Dec. 10).

An alleged opposition party letter surfaced implicating the party in a scandal in which the party had asked the executive director of the Le Maridien Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap for $5,000 to fund their rally.

"This is not the policy of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), and the party does not have the authority," Ke Sovanrath, CNRP’s elected Member of Parliament representing Siem Reap, told reporters Thursday.

"CNRP held the rally to demand justice for voters, and every contribution to the party was made voluntarily," she said.

However, in the letter dated December 9th said that the CNRP, led by Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha, would hold a mass protest in Siem Reap, and that the rally would cost a lot, so the party asked the hotel for $5,000 to hold their rally.

"In the case, you [hotel executive director] provide the money, we would guarantee to ensure the security of the hotel grounds, if not, we would not take any responsibility for what would happen," the letter said.

the cnrp people are good at ask people for money for their cause. they don't ask from nations but from their supporters, from people just like when they hold meeting overseas, etc, they always demand people pitch in! they are not ethical, not professional people! and they will taunt them if people do donate, etc... big or small, they don't care, they take any donation! so watch out for them if they are in your country or in your town, make sure to video tape their plea for donation! and when confront by the media, they will either ban them or deny it! that's their expertise!

My suggestion is people look at plea or Donation in term of money, should be recorded to avoid accusation or legal action. Cambodians are very good as blaming each others for corruption even nothing happened. As we all know Cambodian reporters or medias are not neutral enough to trust on. Some want to create impurity to draw other people attention but not legitimate. They are liars and provocatives. To built trust, we must be trenparent and clearly recorded. In the other hand, Cambodians like to clean somebody nose rather than them. They don't like fairness and justice because their culture including me. Thanks

i told you, to understand why or what cambodian politicians do, make sure you understand khmer culture like the native do. cambodia will never be perfect becuase its culture, its mentality, its way of life dictates it. to know cambodia well, one has to incorporate all of this into what you see and understand it to be. it's hard because it is imbedded in the mentality of the very people you are trying to help. unless those people are willing to adapt, adjust at their own free-will, you cannot expect a true, perfect democracy in cambodia and asia for that matter. you are lucky if you can get some of them to truely adapt the western democracy way. to do that in cambodia, first one has to enforce strict rule. otherwise, don't count on it too much. it is the culture thing, not to say that khmer culture is bad, it is not that bad, just so you understand cambodia better, that's all!

how to deal and work with cambodia? the best thing to do it to agree to disagree and accept that little difference or big difference for that matter and go on from there. not much else will matter! khmer will always want to be khmer, just like other races want to be their own, khmer race is no difference, really! understand?

and to avoid all kind of problem with cambodia, all anyone can do is to strongly encourage the rule of law in the country, that is better than nothing at all, really!

with the rule of law, you can be you and i can be i, nobody infringes on other's rights. we all can live side by side harmoniously using and obeying the rule of law. in cambodia, i say make the rule of law god. it is good, it is necessary, it benefits all!
