Chea Mony, President of the Free Trade Union of Workers in the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC) and younger brother of slain union leader Chea Vichea, sent a letter to the ministry of Interior (MoI), asking for an authorization to visit Heng Pov, the former Phnom Penh police commissioner, at the Prey Sar jail. Chea Mony’s letter dated 24 Feb was already received by the MoI, but no decision has been made yet. In his letter, Chea Mony indicated that, even though he is not related to Heng Pov, he still wants to pay a visit to the latter on a humanitarian basis. On the other hand, Khieu Sopheak, MoI spokesman, told the Kampuchea Thmei newspaper that he is puzzled that Chea Mony wants to meet prisoner Heng Pov. He said that, of the more than 10,000 prisoners in Cambodia, why Chea Mony does not pay any attention to them, why does he pay attention to Heng Pov only? Khieu Sopheak suspects that Chea Mony wants to meet Heng Pov for a particular reason. Khieu Sopheak also sent a message to Chea Mony telling him not to pay attention to the individual Heng Pov alone, but also to the other 10,000 prisoners as well.
