A 29-year-old man is behind bars in connection with a shooting outside a Cambodian temple in southern Dakota County on Saturday.

Nera Keng was booked into the Dakota County Jail in Hastings at 10 p.m. Saturday on probable cause of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and recklessly discharging a pistol.

The Dakota County Sheriff's office said approximately 2,000 people were congregating at the temple to celebrate the Cambodian New Year's festival when two people exchanged gunfire in the adjacent parking lot. Multiple shots were fired and cars were struck but no one was hit. It happened at 3:36 p.m.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff's office, and additional suspects are being sought. The temple is located on 220th Street East in Hampton.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to call their tip line at 651-438-TIPS (8477).
