A 29-year-old man is behind bars in connection with a shooting outside a Cambodian temple in southern Dakota County on Saturday.

Nera Keng was booked into the Dakota County Jail in Hastings at 10 p.m. Saturday on probable cause of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and recklessly discharging a pistol.

The Dakota County Sheriff's office said approximately 2,000 people were congregating at the temple to celebrate the Cambodian New Year's festival when two people exchanged gunfire in the adjacent parking lot. Multiple shots were fired and cars were struck but no one was hit. It happened at 3:36 p.m.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff's office, and additional suspects are being sought. The temple is located on 220th Street East in Hampton.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to call their tip line at 651-438-TIPS (8477).

Frederick Melo can be reached at 651-228-2172.

how about if the cambodian community came together and taught their kids a little more values and morals then just to drink their life away??!!! Bring them all together and have a speaker talk about some kind of awareness on gangs???

I certainly second your comments. All these Khmer gangs should be sent to Vietnam or Thailand borders for more experiences.

We Khmers came here to prosper, but a few bad apples make us look bad. I wish the INS will deport them all.

Regards,
Khmer/NY

I agree! if they really wanted to kills each other so bad, let them have what they wanted, our military leader should send these gangbang to the front line and kills all of those intruders....

Cambodia needed more military army to stay all around the entire border area, so this is good to send these punkass to the front line against Thai/Viet...and see how brave they are!

It first we thought it was just some explosion from the fire crackers. After six shoots, we were chaos and trying to find secure places to hide. Then, I saw two guys were handcuffed by the policemen. Why could not they just shoot each other at some other places? Just one new year celebration in a year and you much such a shame act.

New Khmer generation at the incident

Not when they're at the casino practically every night, and screw others' spouse. How can these people expect their kids to look up to them.

I was there when the shooting started. Nara Keng was arrested a short them later. When investigator interviewed him, he said the was not Khmer. He claimed that he's Laos. Initial investigation indicated that a group of Laos and Blacks were shooting at each other at our temple. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
