King-Father's declaration - Part 2

"Fortunately for Sihanouk, young Cambodians do not know their history too well..." - Quote from The Nine Lives of Norodom Sihanouk

Translated from French by Tola Ek

Declaration from
Norodom Sihanouk
(Continued)

Beijing, P.R. of China, 20 April

2- My so-called “CORRUPTION””

2a- Becoming King of Cambodia at the age of 18-1/2-year-old, each month, I earned a salary which was largely sufficient for me to live well and to accomplish my duty toward my Country and toward my People, the majority of whom never ceased to love me. If I were to be corrupt, I wouldn’t be loved like this.

2b- Mr. In Tam said that my fortune and that of my wife filled roomfuls of a large British bank and a bank in Switzerland.

In Beijing, my wife and I promptly invited reporters from the International media (including of course our Chinese friends) to come and see us. We told them: “You have our permission (written and signed) to search in the UK, in Switzerland and elsewhere our “fortune.” If you find anything in these banks that belong to us, you can take it.”

They searched and searched for this “fortune”. They did not find anything.

On the other hand, they noted that, in some foreign banks (i.e. non-Khmer banks), there was money belonging to the Lonnolians.

2c- Recently again, I let the public know about the modest amount of money that “I own” in a bank account (the bank is now called “Palatine”) in France. This very modest amount of money was deposited by H.E. Samdech Penn Nouth for paying the cost of my yearly stay at the diet clinic of Dr. Georges Pathé in Grasse (France).

2d- Beside this, I do not own any fortune, with the exception of a “personal stipend” offered each month to me by the RGC (Royal Government of Cambodia) and by the parliament of Samdech Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, Chea Sim and the CPP.

Details of my monthly expenses are transmitted in writing to the Cambodian State Bank, to the RGC, to the National Assembly and to the Senate of our country.

2e- In terms of real estate properties, I only own a small house in Siem Reap-city and my birth house, located next to the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh. I put this house to the disposition of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea embassy whose President, Kim Il Sung, had the extreme kindness of putting at my disposition the “Chhang Su Won Palace” near Pyongyang.

In 6 years, my birth house in Phnom Penh will be offered by me to the State of Cambodia and I wish that it will serve (this house of my Maman) as an Annex to the National Museum, the basement of which currently contains several Khmer antiquities which deserve to be seen and admired by our Compatriots and foreign friends.

2f- My worst enemy, Mr. Sim Var, wrote in his large newspaper that the Lonnolian regime (“The Khmer Republic” to which Mr. Sim Var belonged to by the way) was 100 (one hundred) times more corrupt than that of N. Sihanouk (SRN between 1955 and 1969).

Mr. Sim Var forgot to precise that 1% of the “SRN Corruption” was due to the Lonnolians who shot me down because I did not tolerate corruption; and by assassinating the SRN, these Lonnolians were able to become 100 (one hundred) times more corrupt that before.

(To be continued)
