"If the parties don’t have their leaders, they miss an important element in gaining supporters to be able to fully contest against the ruling party.”

Kem Sokha, president of the Human Rights Party, said he is pushing forward for talks with the Sam Rainsy Party in an attempt to merge the opposition parties ahead of next years national elections.

It remains to be seen whether the two parties can find enough common ground to form a single opposition. Attempts in the past have failed, and opposition leader Sam Rainsy remains in exile.

“I want to meet Sam Rainsy to know his point of view,” Kem Sokha said Wednesday.

Kong Kaom, who is managing the Sam Rainsy Party while its leader is abroad, said he had received a written request from Kem Sokha for a meeting. The Sam Rainsy Party has put together a committee for discussions with the Human Rights Party, he said.

Elections for the Parliamentary Senate commissions resulted in a walkout by the opposition Sam Rainsy Party on Wednesday.

SRP members were angered when, in the first round of voting, they failed to be elected to any of the four places being filled in each of the two commissions that candidates were contesting in the Cambodian People’s Party-dominated upper house.

Each of the nine commissions has five seats to fill.

Before a second round of voting could take place, the acting party president for the SRP, Kong Korm, and his 10 SRP colleagues stormed out of the meeting.

They were therefore unaware when Kong Korm and Ke Sovannroth were elected as commission members.

Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday mocked the recent defections and resignations of opposition Sam Rainsy Party members and called it proof it was impossible for the SRP to ever rule the Kingdom

Speaking at the inauguration of the new Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning & Construction building in Phnom Penh yesterday, the premier warned that any change of government would necessarily entail loss of citizens’ lives.

“Now wait to see Egypt, [you] suppose it is finished, people die more than before. Libya, [you] suppose it is finished…[It has changed] but not according to the goal,” Hun Sen said.

Kong Korm, the standing SRP President, rejected that the accusations made by Hun Xen on 29 December 2011. Hun Xen claimed that the SRP forced its commune councilors to only vote for SRP candidates for the Senate.

On 29 December, Kong Korm added that his party asked its commune councilors to swear that they will be faithful to the SRP, however, the SRP did not incarcerate any of them as Hun Xen accused.

RFI’s weekly guess on 15 October is Senator Kong Korn, the interim president of the SRP. In response to Kuoch Kuntheara’s question, Kong Korm said that he is not surprised by the defection of the number of SRP activists to the Kem Sokha’s HRP. According to Kong Korm, the reason of these SRP activists was because they disagree with their role and they are displeased with their personal interest. At the same time, without any fear, Kong Korm accused the CPP and the HRP of colluding to break up the SRP.

PHNOM PENH, Nov 14 - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen denounced Monday opposition politicians who compared him with the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

“The comparison is the most serious insult on my life and is most painful for me,” he told a road construction and inauguration ceremony [where]. “Comparing me to Gaddafi means an intention to kill me”.

Hun Sen, Southeast Asia's longest serving leader after the Sultan of Brunei, promised that if his ruling Cambodian People Party (CPP) loses national elections in 2013, he will transfer power peacefully to his successor.

Kong Korm, the interim President of the SRP, announced on Friday 04 November that he does not deny the accusation that he compared PM Hun Xen to Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader who was shot at the beginning of October.

Kong Korm’s statement was issued after Hun Xen warned those who compared him to Gaddafi that they will bring war to Cambodia if he [Hun Xen] must be removed through revolutions like those that took place in the Arab world.

Phnom Penh – The SRP inaugurated its new party headquarters on 23 July 2011 after its old headquarters located along Sothearos Street was vacated.

The new SRP headquarters is located along National Road No. 2, near Chak Angre commune, Stung Meanchey district, Phnom Penh city. The new building measures 9 by 14 meters and has 3 stories. It was built at a cost of $225,000. The construction cost was collected from donations by SRP MPs and party activists from both inside and outside the country.

The SRP, led by Kong Korm, its first vice-president, organized a procession march from its old headquarters location to its new building. The procession included SRP MPs and about 500 party activists from all over the country. In a teleconference speech from overseas, opposition leader Sam Rainsy indicated that, although the SRP headquarters is tight, his consciousness is still large as usual.

Phnom Penh - The SRP moved its main headquarter on Monday from its previous location on Sothearos Street, Tonle Bassac commune, Chamcar Mon district, to its new location in Chan Angre commune, Meanchey district, along National Road No. 2.

On Monday, SRP MP Ho Vann, who directed the move, said that the reason the SRP selected 11 July for its move because it is a victory day for the SRP as prescribed by fortune tellers.

Ho Vann said that the SRP did not organize anything major for this move, only some offerings for the guardians of the land. In two weeks, the SRP will organize a major event with the participation of about 1,000 party members.

Ho Vann said: “We are proud, we are hopeful and we have stability because we have our own headquarter.” He added that the old headquarter belongs to Kom Korm, the party vice-president who rented it to the party at a modest cost.”

Sam Rainsy Party senator, Acting President of Sam Rainsy Party, Kong Korm, who was former central committee member of Cambodian People Party and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Cambodia pre-1993, would like to confirm to national and international public opinion that the currently ruling Cambodian People Party is the political party belonging to Vietnam, by Vietnam, for Vietnam since 1951 and continues to obey openly Ho Chiminh as an official great leader post-7 January 1979 .

Nowadays, the over three decades never changing composition of Cambodian People Party government has almost all received the training from Vietnam for the conditions of the party member «Drink water should miss the source, take shelter should miss the planter» being Vietnam and Ho Chiminh that gave second birth and help to revive as at present.
