Sar Kheng, the vice-prime minister and minister of Interior, indicated that, up to the end of October 2007, there were 58 political parties which were already formed, and among these 45 have been already registered with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in the first 10 months of 2007. Among all these registered political parties, 5 of them were newly formed. Sar Kheng said that he hoped that the various registered political parties will participate in the upcoming 2008 election. The above numbers does not take into account the 15 political parties removed from the MoI list following their mergers with other political parties. During the 2003 general election, 23 political parties entered into the election race.
