Chavalit's aide calls Cambodian defence minister following clash

Gen Wichit Yathip, an aide of Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, said Saturday that he had called and reached an understanding with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh over a border skirmish between Thai and Cambodian troops.

Wichit said Tea Banh affirmed with him that Cambodia was not serious about what happened at the border near Preah Vihear Temple.

The skirmish occurred Friday. Wichit both sides thought they were on their soil and did not intend to harm the other.
